Default Best Homescreen app, JUST for more than 3 screens?

Well we've pretty much all heard by now that 2.1 will not be including any more than 3 Home screens. I was REALLY hoping for 5, as 3 is not enough and I'd like more room to play with Widgets. Even with folders and some snazzy organizing it's still not great.

What's the status on Home Screen Replacement Apps? All I know about it Home++ but last I read it was pretty buggy and Force Closed quite a bit. I'm not looking for anything crazy I really just simply want more than 3 screens, 5-7 ideally...are there any apps out there that handle just this?

Helix launcher. It works really well and you can have up to 7 screens.

Will there be any issues with it when 2.1 hits, or you think it will be fully compatible?

I'm hoping it's pretty solid with 2.1 but I really have no idea. Hopefully i will find out in the next few hours lol. Or 24 hours.

Nice I've read that you need to remove all your icons from your screens before you run the program so it doesn't screw anything up?

No when you run it you start with three screens just like the stock Droid with the basic icons on the screen. You have to configure it for how many screens you want. After you setup all your screens DO NOT CHANGE HOW MANY SCREENS YOU HAVE UNLESS YOU CLEAR EVERYTHING OFF FIRST.

Untrue. Actually, it force closed on me the moment I opened it for the first time. And if you read through the HelixLauncher thread, you'll find a number of users who are experiencing force closes just adding shortcuts to their home screens. That being said, I've had the opposite experience that you've had with home++. While I know many people on this board who have had FC issues with home++, I RARELY (notice I didn't say never, because never is an impossibility with these kinds of apps) get FC's.

Either way, you're going to experience FC's with ANY of the home replacements. But in my opinion, home++ is one the most stable and feature-rich home replacements out there. HelixLauncher is nice too and I'll be using it more frequently after the 2.1 update. But don't tell people HL is more/less stable than other HR apps because by virtue of what it is, it'll FC on you eventually. It's not a question of "if," but "when." Oh, and unlike HL, home++ allows you to change the number of screens without a restart and wipe.

My question is are you running 2.1 or 2.0.1 because it was designed for 2.1. Also the reason helix is nice is it doesn't try to be so feature rich with a million options, it blends nicely with the stock theme and at least, gives you more home screens that's all.

I switched to helix this morning from home++ and so far it is more stable and uses less resources. Definitely worth trying out.

Yeah I know Home++ is like the favorite around these boards however the only thing I really want (seeing as 2.1 is out today) is more screens since it lacks it!

I'd like to have some more widgets etc open but I just never have enough room.

+1 Helix. Fastest around and hasn't ever FC'd on my Droid. (I also have Home++ and GDE but will stick with Helix for the speed).

Default Helix Launcher

I have used Home++ and a couple of others and have gotten FC's on all of them. I have been using HL for several days now and haven't gotten a FC yet. I have used all of the above on stock 2.0.1 and a few different non-stock ROMs(2.1.) (I am evidently addicted to changing ROMs!!) Of all that I have tried HL is the most stable (for me.)

Many times the FC's can be attributed to other apps installed on the phone. If you find a home replacement that you like and are getting FC's, back all your junk up, remove the apps and add them back one at a time and see if one is causing the FC issue. Unfortunately, the above process can be quite time consuming (the apps don't necessarily cause FC's right off the bat,) but IMO the home screen replacement that you use is the app that you have to interact with the most, so it really needs to fit you.

Just my .02,
BigRedGonzo

I like Helix so far. It is kind of cool you can default to which homescreen app you want to use each time. I'll use both for right now, as I've mirrored the 3 screens like I have now, and then added two more to 5
