Default Buying Motorola Milestone 2 question

Hi all,
Well, have decided to go for this phone, even though it's not sold in physical stores here in Sweden so I have to order it form some online store. Any good recomendations of stores with good prices and that may ship internationally?
And over all, how do you like the phone?
Many thanks!

I got mine from Expansys, they should deliver to you in Sweden.

As far the phone goes, it's built well and I've not have any major issues. Only downside is the dodgy Blur software Motorola have put on it. But it doesn't really stop you doing anything...and it does give you a couple of nice widgets.

As for the phone itself, I like it. I had the previous version and now have this one and still am happy. It is sturdy, well built, does not feel cheap and has good performance (I do not use MotoBlur, I use Launcher Pro Plus instead).

It is a great phone if you need QWERTY keyboard.
As for buying it:

These two stores are ok, Play.com is a very reputable seller.
Motorola Milestone 2 | Motorola Android | Motorola Milestone 2 Accessories

And some eBay auctions.

Hi,
Many thanks, will check these stores and auctions out.
As for Expansys, they are not the most cheapest store, at least to me so I am looking for something with better prices.
And a general question about the phone, how is the sound quality of it?
And also, like some of the phones out there, does this one become warm after some use?
I currently have a cheaper phone the Samsung Galaxy 551 which becomes warm after just a few minutes of use, even if the radio's are turned off.
And the Droid2, its the same as Milestone2?
Its just a different name?

I would not recommend expansys myself either.

It is on average, nothing special, nut not bad either. You will find more information in this review:

It will only become hot if you use one of the radios intensively, on a daily basis mine is completely cool.

It is for American market and will not work with 3G in Europe.

Expansys was the cheapest I found, and they delivered the phone straight away. Some ebay auctions may have been cheaper but I personally think they're not worth the risk. Also, Expansys should deliver to Sweden, whereas I think Amazon doesn't.

Excellent, just like the Milestone 1.

In my experience, only if the phone is running some cpu-intensive task

I don't want to put you off buying this phone, especially if you have made your decision, but after a few months use now, I am a little disappointed with mine.

Hardware is ok, although I have had a problem with the phone thinking that one of keys at the bottom of the screen is being depressed, when in fact it isn't. Also the letter 'o' key on the keyboard is dodgy. Music player hangs mid-song, the camcorder freezes or locks the phone etc.

It just isn't as good as I had hoped. Shame really.

Are you sure you don't just happen to have a faulty unit, or maybe a badly coded app is causing some interference?

My experience with the Milestone 2 has been very positive so far and I have not experienced a single one of the issues you mention. The Milestone 1, with Android up to 2.1, was quite buggy, but Android 2.2 fixed most of those issues and turned it into a very reliable phone, and so is the Milestone, imho.

Default Persist

Maybe you are right, it could be faulty hardware or an issue with an app.

I have considered trying to reset to factory settings and starting over. That should rule out the faulty app being an issue.

Sad thing is, despite the problems I still really like the phone - it's a love hate thing.

Hi anthony.rich. I read some reviews on the Milestone having - what appears to be - humidity issues causing things similar to what you're seeing to happen. Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Motorola Milestone Unlocked Phone Quad Band GSM with 5 MP Camera, MP3, gps navigation- International Version with No Warranty (Black)

According to one reviewer, there are numerous cases on Youtube that show people having quirky issues with the Milestone. I don't have one myself, but strongly considering the Milestone 1 or 2.

Maybe others can comment on their experience as well. I am concerned about the over-heating issue, and battery life. If I do put my hands on one, I will definitely be rooting and modding it to help performance and battery management, though.

Complaints first:
The bugs I experienced with the Milestone 1 were solved with Android 2.2, and I haven't noticed any meaningful bug with the Milestone 2 so far.

The worst bugs with the Milestone 1 were the unreliable alarm (music started playing in the middle of the night, crazy!) and once when all my contacts were wiped out (again, crazy: Contacts disappeared - cannot add google account back ).

The only complaint I have about both the Milestone 1 and 2 is that sometimes theyv take a while to change the orientation from portrait to landscape. Other than that, they are both excellent smartphones.

Now for the good stuff. I managed to get ca 2 days of battery life out of the Milestone 1 with these settings, and about the same with the Milestone 2:
I get 2 days of battery life disabling backgr data (but with push email on)

It all boils down to usage; may people have constant data feeds which they don't really need but drain the battery. I have no need to update my calendar or task widget every second; I know when I make changes to those, so I update the widgets manually.

As for Motoblur on the M2, it's easy to replace: Milestone 2: Motoblur made harmless and replaced with ADW launcher
and the Milestone 2 is very easy to root with z4root:
z4root worked fine (although the second time only)

One final comment: as much as I like the Milestone 2, if you don't write a lot of email/texts you might be better off with a thinner smartphone with no physical keyboard. Similarly, if you don't need all the processing power of the Milestone 2, there are cheaper Android phones. I would not recommend the Milestone 1 because the internal memory is very limited, meaning you can only install few apps; I know, with Android 2.2 you can move apps to sd, but this doesn't work for all apps.

Any more questions, just ask
