Mine is 11 hours (give or take a few minutes) at 60%

That is a lot better than with the Seidio extended life battery - which is apparently not supported on the Milestone (another lock-down by Motorola!)

The app "battery left" is accurate after a few days... mine showed 17 Hrs with firmware 2.0 and now 25 Hrs with the 2.0.1... and I use the phone all day. A 5 Hour lifetime is a bit too short... you must have something that drains your battery fast (make a few changes in settings - brightness of screen - automatic, disable WIFI, GPS... and see if you have any luck.. if not... ask for a akku replace)

kk so i did a test, im sure you have all seen this video

so i tried the same thing. set the brightness to max, and the screen to never timeout, and put a song on repeat. After one hour my battery was at 80%, which is twice as fast. Which leads me to the question, is an app draining my battery, or is my battery simply defective? The guy from the video shows his battery use screen, and after 4 hours "dialer" had used up 2%, while on mine "dialer" used 13% in just one hour. The description for "dialer" says "battery used by applications when running".... so i think the obvious answer to my question is that an app is doing this...right?
im a huge newb btw... :P

edit: my wifi and bluetooth were turned off too. i checked my running services and these apps were there that i wasn't expecting: vizbattery, time service (retroclock), media playback service (music), astrid app widget provider$ update service (astrid)

I just got my Telus Milestone on Friday, and my battery life is pretty aweful compared to the Windows Mobile devices I've had before it. Not that I'm not using the device... I certainly am since I'm downloading software off the Market, etc. But it just doesn't seem to take more than a couple hours to run down the battery.

Hearing the Extended Life didn't help some, I haven't even looked at what that would cost. A co-worker suggests having a charger at work, so I'm taking my spare there tomorrow.

I have the same problem merkman. And although taking a charger to work is a good idea, i really want to know why my phone isn't operating at 100% of its capabilities. Especially if its just an app that's syncing and draining battery.

Im getting about 10 hours with mine (with heavy browsing and email usage) - I have the Telus Milestone and the battery life doesnt seem to last as long as some of the droids on here! I do have touchdown push email working and gmail push. I also have facebook widget (refresh every 6hrs) , some calendar widgets, weather widget. I also have corporate email and calendar but that is on manual download - the corporate calendar seems to update itself without prompting. I always kill tasks and i have the screen brightness on the lowest and the screen times out after 30 seconds. What is strange is that my Cell Standby gets a lot of battery usage even though im not using the phone ot make a great deal of calls. I t also states that it is out of range 50% of the time though i always have a signal! Does that mean that my signal strength is low and the phone is fighting to find a reception...that may be why the battery isnt as good as some others.

Guys, you should also take reception into account.

If reception is poor in locations you spend a lot time in the phone will die very quickly because it is working all the time trying to find signal.

Now that I've had some more use out of mine, I see that 10 - 12 hours is to be expected when you use a lot of the features throughout the day. if I use the phone "normally" then it easily makes it 24 hours or more but of course I've been using it for music and internet and email all the time, who wouldn't?
Maybe moto will bring out a big battery that actually works at some point...

The interesting thing is that it actually turns out to be only 10-12 hours if I dont heavily use Emaila dn browsing. It seems to state the main battery drain in this instance is Cell Standby and the time without signal is consistently 50% - I was hoping that with little use the battery would last in the 12h+ mark! Does this mean the battery is draining because the cell is trying to search for a signal all the time? My coverage here in downtown Toronto is pretty good 3/4 bars and 3g or HSDPA speeds

I'm having a similar issue. My battery is draining at an alarming rate. I only have about 5 hrs of use. I'm not sure what draining my battery so much, but I'm starting to wonder if my battery is defective. My Droid is rooted and I'm running Ultimate Droid v5.0. Please let me know.

Remember that cooked ROMs always carry more danger of being buggy and thus can also cause battery life problems.

Any solutions or ideas. I'm over clocked, but only running at 700MHZ. I've turning down the brightness, and I keep checking my phone to see if anything is running in the background. I use the power control and turn off wifi, bluetooth and gps. I just don't know what else to do. I love the new ROM, but I just can't figure it out.

Do you think that I should remove the ROM? If so, how do you do it?

overclocking AT ALL is gonna rip into your battery life big time.
i have an app which underclocks mine right down to its lowest speed when i turn the screen off. helps a lot.

Sorry this is off topic, but after reading this thread I searched the app mentioned in the first few posts (Battery Left) and got a result for a nice battery app some of you may really like (or already have) called BatteryTime Lite.'Shows how much time you have left for different things..

i had a few days of really bad battery life and the one thing i noticed was the out of range 50%. the last few days the battery life has been outstanding and makes no mention of the out of range thing and the phone seems cooler to the touch when doing things. i think this might be a bug of some kind can anyone else confirm?

installing 2.01 helps battery a LOT. I installed it yesterday and still can't believe the difference it had overnight. I had pretty lousy battery when I had bought it, is yours pretty new?

You should remember to always kill your apps with an app manager so they don't drain your resources, disable wifi, and 3g through APN to save battery. This helps a lot. Also you might wanna use brightness at minimum and remember to always turn the screen off when not using it.

I haven't run my battery down low as I've read that you get longer life out of your battery the less you deep-draw it, but I can't see getting much longer than a day with only moderate use out of my Droid. I've got an app running that auto-kills all non-essential apps too, so the CPU isn't cycling between a lot of programs. 5hrs does seem low, but the huge standby times Motorola posts in the specs for this phone, seem impossible.

I have a Telus milestone, and i had the same problem encountered. After many days of testing, turning off wifi, bluetooth, screen brightness etc, nothing was working.

I realized then that i was getting updates from gmail constantly, and it occured to me that it might be the problem. On my Telus Milestone, the default setting for my Gmail sync for contacts, calendar and email was 1 min. So basically, every minute.

So effectively, the hspa data connection would start up, sync all three, then shut down, wait 20 seconds, and start over.

I was getting 5-6 hours of battery, now i can get through a whole day(24 hrs) with light use. Depending on how much talk time i use, i get between 8-12 hrs with browsing/gaming.. etc.

As an aside, in 2.1, i use the power widget to turn sync off and on when i need it...saves 4 steps.

Hope this helps.

I've had my Milestone for about a month and Battery has been fantastic! However, yesterday, the battery was down to <5% within 6 hours and I hardly used it!!! No new apps installed, same area as normal!?? I'm hoping this was a one off glitch or maybe a local cell tower down maybe?? causing constant searching? Going to keep an eye today to see what happens......
