Default Android System update opens and closes immediately

I was eager to update my android device to KitKat 4.4.4 but all I got is a new problem. In Android the procedure for system update is settings>About phone>System update. Isn't it? Whenever I tap on system update the system update tab opens and closes immediately. So I'm unable to update my OS. It happens every time I tap it. Meanwhile when I try to power off my device the system update opens and I can not access that tab since the shut down process will be processing. What is happening I don't know. Is there any alternate way to update the OS?

Hey DiffCyr, 1st of all thanks for your help. I tried the steps given by you and found that it's still not working. The problem remains the same. Meanwhile I got a new update of the problem. Today I again opened the system update and it as usual closed immediately and I started to play a game. After an hour the system update window opened while playing. I tapped on more information option in that and after tapping motorola site was opened in chrome. When I click back, the system update window disappeared again. I'm about to do factory reset. Will it work?

Hi djsidhu15 even my Moto E XT1022 first had the same problem as yours but after doing the above mention steps mine worked.
But any way if you are a bit of an advanced user and have any custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM then try this an XDA Member gogeta has uploded the KitKat 4.4.4 here is the download link "https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B72C6RSL0mQmQWRRNGt5eTk3bkE/edit?usp=sharing"
Flash it using custom recovery.
But you do not want to do any of it then don't confuse yourself and do as you said factory reset it and it would most probably update now.

Hey DiffCyr. I am not an advanced user as I am new to the android world. But I got some idea in this issue. I accidentally switched flight mode on. Then after the mobile network have been disabled, the system update window opened automatically. Then after tapping "Yes I am in", I chose mobile network or WiFi option for update connection. Afterwards system update notification came up on tray and its state is in pause even when I disabled flight mode. The mobile internet is not used by the update. I tried updating by WiFi but it remains the same. Its on 0% still. Let me update you if the factory reset works.
