Factor in the scattered UI changes and extra mess of bloatware baked into the Droid Ultra, and -- well, pardon my bluntness, but the device looks kind of like a Moto X that's been vomited on by a Verizon monster.
Favorite part of the review.

lol thats the most biased review i've read in a long while haha... the exaggeration is nuts. there are NO UI changes except for the addition of Droid ZAPP and the command center, thats it, nothing else. the X does win in design comfort but the MAXX is actually one of the most comfortable phones to hold right now that is available for verizon... very easy to hold.

Granted I haven't held the MAXX yet, but I feel like my Galaxy Nexus is big enough to hold.

Coming from a Gnex as well and now owning a Maxx, I can tell a bit of a size difference, but nothing to write home about. Both feel comfortable in my hand.

I can't believe many people are going to be deciding on the X vs Ultra. It's the X vs the Maxx where decisions will be made. The Maxx has 3 features the X doesn't aside from the personal preference in screen size and capacitive vs on screen buttons.

Battery, Storage, and Wireless Charging.

While I agree, I would personally go with the X or the Maxx, there Ultra is basically the same as the X. Same price, same specs, the Ultra has a little bigger screen(most wont care about the small ppi difference) the price is what most people care about.

Okay, okay, taking a look at the Maxx with an open mind.

But after 2 years of on-screen soft keys, now I shudder at the thought of capacitive buttons!

I couldn't agree more. It is one of the things that drives me nuts about Android. I wish they could force soft keys on everyone. I own the One now and I don't even know what is going on with that thing.

I feel like someone should start a pool on when VZW will announce the 29th release date or if they will just push it back and have to defend themselves against masses of angry cell users.

Well, I won't be picking my X up on Launch Day anyhow... I'll be impatiently waiting for MotoMaker to open up to all carriers. I can't live on 16GB. Can't do it.

So I'll be customizing my phone and giving it the whole treatment (whenever).

After being my bedside clock all night (using the awesome app Dock Clock), I just pulled my Nexus out of my pocket and... no response. Nothing. Power button was completely unresponsive: she was dead.

Had to do a battery pull just to jump-start her. 97% battery remaining, so there's no telling what caused that little glitch.

But it's little stuff like this that make me convinced that she is more than ready for retirement. She's running Android 4.3 with ParanoidAndroid 3.96.

2 day delay on all Moto X orders from the AT&T early access feature that was supposed to get you the phone before release to the general public.

Quote directly from the AT&T release "design and receive their Moto X before the general public"

Just wondering if anyone can confirm that they've been able to see or touch any demo units in store yet? Seems like the stores might allow it since the launch is tomorrow, but the 2 AT&T corporate owned stores near me act like they've never heard of the phone...

Some act dumb until launch....others really have no clue. Depends on the sales person you talk to and if they have read up on their training materials on the latest phones.

I have been trying all morning to buy a 32 outright. Went to AT&T and they cannot sell me a card at full price and can't make a purchase on Moto Maker without one. Frustrating.

So I just went and played with Motomaker and I must be missing something. Where are all of the woodgrain backs and stuff. I get back color, front color (black or white), button color, boot and background customization, and account sync.

The woodgrain options were announced as pushed back to late 2013 the day it was announced.

Thanks, guess I missed that. I was just confused as almost all the images of it on Motorola's site are the nice backs. Doesn't really matter to me as I was just playing. I guess the AT&T exclusive isn't very good.

Yea everyone whining should be happy they will get more options and the kinks worked out from us hamsters. I ordered mine on Monday and won't get it till this Monday so much for that 4 day turnaround. There seems to be lots of issues to sort out, and I really wanted that ebony wood back. I really should talk to someone about my early adopteritis.

I went to the local AT&T reseller. They don't have the Moto X, and won't until the end of the month. Apparently, corporate stores launch the X today... retailers get it later.

Ah well...

I had similar experience with the Maxx. Pre-ordered and shipped to retailer. On release day they had three at had been pre-ordered. Four blocks away the corporate store had Mini, Ultra, and Maxx on display and you could play with them.

So, I order mine on Monday with the email they sent out (actually paid a friend for hers, since she didn't want it...) and I will be getting my phone on Monday the 26th. So much for "early" like they stated it would be at first. I guess the early part was only for Motomaker access itself.

Jerks and their misleading statements!!

Wasn't misleading, just a failure to deliver. Official word from Moto is these shipments ARE delayed. You were supposed to receive on Thursday.

If they are missing their 4 day shipment time by double (8 days for me from what I was just told) with the limited selection of pre-orders selected from AT&T, how in the world are they going to meet the demands from people ordering today and next week? Good luck getting those phones out in a timely manner.
Thats likes this.

I don't think they can. That is why there are limited ways to buy right now. I can't wait to get it still. That phone feels as small as an iPhone in hand with a 4.7 screen. In my limited time playing with it the screen was very sharp.

Too bad they won't let us upgrade to 32g for free since they can't meet their obligation.

So I don't know how, but last night I somehow was able to get through to Motorola.com/motomaker and design and place an order at about 10:30 central time. I was not one that got an email from ATT nor did I have a card with a pin from ATT. I was also able to pay full retail for the phone which I'm seeing people are not having luck going that route. Guess I got lucky. When is it supposed to open to the masses directly through their site?

Thank you for letting me know!! Very "glad" to hear this. As long as they get it to me on the 26th I'll be happy, because that is my "Friday."

Edit: Just got the email which stated they were building mine today! Woooohooo!

Want wood? $50 extra.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Motorola-website-source-code-suggests-a-wood-backed-Moto-X-could-cost-50-extra_id46716

No full price for customized X, AT&T.

I'm not really that impressed by the selection in Moto Maker. I mean, I understand the wood backs MIGHT be out by the time Verizon can customize its phones... but no metallic gold trim? Just yellow or orange? I am rather disappointed.

Nor do I want some personalized "Hi there Chief!" boot screen. Try to sell that in 2 years. Go ahead. One can hope that a toolkit will be developed to unlock and root it, but I'm not holding my breath.

And the limited wallpaper selection is just sad. A raspberry? Really? That's what I gave it.

Call me mean and a buzz-kill (it IS Friday for most of you, after all), but Moto Maker is very much a bummer for me right now. Let's hope it improves greatly in a very short span of time.

EDIT: To get back to EarlyMon's suggestion about the thread ending (which it will as-is very soon), what if we re-name it "The Moto X General Discussion Thread" and just keep it going as a catch-all for general... well, discussion?

Not necessarily a watering hole-type "lounge" thread, but a specific phone-oriented thread for those non-specific issues and observations. Just a thought...
