Google is pressuring OEMs to use unibody designs and non removable storage. This keeps think easy when it comes to trouble shooting technical support. If you have a third party battery that's causing your phone to screw up, or you download something to an SD card that has a virus on it, then transfer it another device... I hate to say it, but Google is starting to see the bright side in the Apple model, and I for one would love an Android experience with Apple precision.

I have no problem with non removable battery as long as the battery is actually good (high capacity >=3000 mAh). If not, then I have a huge problem with it.

Call me old school. If the phone breaks, I want to be able to pull out my data on the SDcard and pop it in a new phone. You have internal memory only, you're hosed on both the phone and data. And yes, owning a Nexus has been a risk for that very reason.

Battery? Okay, as long as it's not puny I can deal with that. I guess.

The thought has crossed my mind on if this Xphone will have an sd card slot. Motorola phones have generally had one, but Google is very against them. Who will win?

Never heard of this site, but Northern Voices Online claims to have this device:

Thoughts?

Alright, I just read it and I call BS on it. Claiming to have a Tegra 4 processor is ludicrous because nVidia even said that it wouldn't be a smartphone chip this calendar year if I remember CES back 2 months ago.

I have it on very good authority that the rumored MotoX phone has not been released. You can take that as a fact.

Interesting. Specs look amazing, but a 5.2 inch screen really isn't my style. Talk about a conflict.

Seriously, that couldn't be more fake. Those specs are off the chart.

To be honest I want something ground breaking, something that just "@#$%s the game up".

Aside from the obvious Apple rivalry and it's always fun to mess with Microsoft, there remains the fact Samsung is getting too big for their britches.

Google has a lot of influence and in my opinion Apple has lost their creativite and innovative edge. The stage is set for Google to put everyone: competing companies, inflexible carriers, and rogue OEMs in their place.

Also, I can't help but love the timing that just as soon as this phone is released Verizon WILL be forced to let people bring it to their network thanks to the poison pill they were forced to swallow in the 2008 spectrum auction. Assuming that Google puts in the correct antennas of course.

However, what I'm hoping is they'll do the same as they do with Chromebooks and give you a ton of free Drive storage.

I really hope that what android and me is reporting is true. I really liked the look of the Motorola phone that is mentioned in that article and being able to purchase a phone like that (or design your own) for around $200 off contract would be awesome!

A bit more fuel for the "customizable" rumor mill: Guy Kawasaki hints at possible hardware customization for the X Phone | TalkAndroid.com
Quote:
Motorola advisor Guy Kawasaki has left an interesting video on his Google+ page of the Porsche Exclusive with an insightful little comment, “Wouldn’t it be great if you could personalize your phone like this?” Now, the cool thing about the Exclusive is that you’re able to completely customize the vehicle to how you want it. Different paint jobs, stereo, whatever. However, not too long ago, we heard rumors that customers would be able to customize hardware on the X Phone, which would be a significant first in the smartphone industry.

Is it a just coincidence that Kawasaki posted this video? Sure. Maybe cars and smartphones are two of his favorite hobbies and he likes to daydream about the best aspects of both industries. But Motorola needs a kickstart and Google needs to wrangle some power away from Samsung, so something revolutionary like this may not be as far off as we think.

Ah, just came here to post that myself.

I saw another version of that rumour that said sapphire rather than gorilla glass 3.

Trouble is, it's all too easy to make up. If it's coming in the second half of the year you'd expect a Snap 800 in the top end, screen rumours have been typically around 4.8". 720p is the surprising one, given than 1080p seems pretty well established at this screen size.

Well, we'll see. Wonder which (if any) leaks will turn out to be real?

Ninja'd!

Yeah, if it's "only" 720p I'll likely pass. The specs are just too MEH for a flagship. Hopefully it will be configurable.

Phonearena, who were one of the sources of today's rumours, are now backtracking on the date and claiming it will be a summer release again:

Motorola X Phone is on track for Google I/O

They also point out that a June/July release would also mean that you shouldn't expect a Snapdragon 800.

Default Re: The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

More rumours. I'm still hoping for a cheap device that is as good as the HTC one and s4. Getting rid of moto blur would also be great. http://androidandme.com/2013/03/news/rumor-new-details-leak-on-motorolas-x-phone-and-their-upcoming-nexus-phone/

Here's more http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/03/28/motorola-x-phone-specs-galaxy-s4-iphone-5s/

Also is it just me who is getting tired of these rumours as they have been so dragged out and as we are still a month and a bit away from it being announced ??

Phonearena has it for November with the Snapdragon 800. The 800 has been rumored before but in July, which I don't think is possible?

They are also saying sapphire glass. I don't buy that.

Latest rumored Motorola X specs: 4.8 inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, November launch

http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/qualcomm-snapdragon-800-and-600-chips/

Quote:
Let's start with the 800 and that claim of 1.75x performance. Assuming it turns out to be true in practice, it'll derive from the following improvements relative to the S4 Pro:

a shift to a 28nm HPm ("High Performance for mobile") fabrication process
an upgraded Hexagon V5 digital signal processor
the adoption of 800MHz LPDDR3 memory to match up to the PC-like 12.8GB/s bandwidth of Samsung's Exynos 5
an all-new Krait 400 architecture running at higher clock speeds of up to 2.3GHz
an equally new Adreno 330 GPU that'll offer a double helping of compute power
This SoC will be able to capture and play 4K video at 30fps, handle 2K video (or more precisely 2560 x 2048) at 60fps, and deliver the latest 7.1 channel DTS-HD and DD Plus audio standards.

The 800 should arrive by the middle of the year, but another upgrade option will get here even sooner, by Q2. This is the Snapdragon 600, which can be thought of as an S4 Pro with some significant architectural tweaks, a higher 1.9GHz max clock speed, a "speed enhanced" Adreno 320 GPU, and LPDDR3 memory. Qualcomm is specifically angling this chip against Clover Trail and Tegra 4, which suggests we could see it in a range of form factors very soon.

Weird, that phone has a huge bezel, especially around the bottom. And it looks like it has a very small screen, and the power button on the top... It looks like an old Android phone, but it's running new software with virtual on screen buttons. Confusing.

i'd like to think that since google bought moto's phone division that they'll be unlocked, or unlocked upon request. possibly have two versions available, one locked and one unlocked?

moto may have hated unlocked devices, but google seems to embrace them. only time will tell. i just hope that they throw the Maxx/MaxxHD's battery into whatever they're building.

The positive side of that is that the Snapdragon 800 should be an option by then.

I do not care which release day date is true, my upgrade is in November

Although I think I'll keep my Droid RAZR HD until the X2 comes out... Unless it supports VoLTE.

Well, that'll make deciding more complicated come November/December. With the new Nexus(es) and the Moto X out at the same time, nothing will be newer than the other and everything will be "top shelf". I'd rather buy new than 6-month old technology... now it'll all be new!

Decisions, decisions...

Not explictly about the "X" phone, but timescales match what we're hearing.

Damn. I've been waiting for my upgrade for a year now. I was hoping one of these would fit the bill. But not sure I want to wait that much longer!
