I don't think the multimedia dock will be as useful as the Atrix laptop dock.

Yeah, I think you're right. I think it may serve the similar purpose as the HTC HDMI dock I have for my EVO right now.

I'm basically in a "wait and see" mode regarding the accessories though. The only one that I was really looking to purchase on release date is likely the car dock.

Thanks. I really hope more people catch interest in the photon. I think it's one of the sleeper smart phones come out that can become really popular. The specs, to me, feel more like my evo than the evo 3d.

Man the 3D seems real stout but I still like the looks of the Photon or SGS2 better. I'll have a 3D by this weekend but dont think it'll be my go to phone

Yeah, overall I liked the look of the 3D. I didn't really mind the 3D either, but there were 2 specs that really stood out to me that had me hesitate, internal storage/ROM and the lack of a kickstand. I was actually on the verge of going to Best Buy to put a pre-order in the EXACT day the Photon was being rumored for announcement on June 9...which is what made me hold off on putting a pre-order in for the 3D.

Once the Photon was announced, kickstand was confirmed, 16gb internal storage confirmed, and world phone was confirmed. That's all I needed to hear to know that the Photon was better suited for me than the 3D. The only thing that would've made me just as hesitant with the Photon is if the processor was single core or the camera specs were lesser than my current EVO.

I think I am going to go with the otterbox, as I can be a little ruff on anything that is on my personage... I just have to remember to not have phones on me when I am working on the car... You roll over on it on a large angular metal tool, and the screen is completely unreadable the next time you get a call for some strange unknowable reason??? Although, the rainbow pattern is pretty

Ooh...BIG no, no! I learned my lesson when I had my first smartphone. Dropped out of my pocket while I was tightening my suspension, got in the car and rolled back off the ramp...crunch. Good thing Sprint Insurance was SO much easier back then (no Asurion).

Now, I always put my phone in the center console in the car, whenever I'm working on it.

Best Buy prices are insane. $15 for a microUSB cable? I'll buy 10!

Yup, they are...LOL...just trying to post up as many accessories that are popping up as possible. Still haven't found anyplace that has pre-orders for any of the Photon specific accessories though, with exception to cases.

I'm just hoping that the car dock is available at launch, like was originally announced.

Amazon added more accessories, including the Amzer cases that many people purchased for the EVO. I don't really like having cases on my smartphones, but just in case anybody else was looking at other case options:

One thing I've already noticed about Motorola vs. HTC is that Motorola has been around for so long that they have a lot of manufacturer OEM accessories that are universal compared to HTC. HTC accessories cost so much more.

I have never bothered with a car dock before...does it do more then hold the phone and charge it? Might be interesting if it does?

As to the laptop dock, if I were a carrier like Sprint I probably would not want it offered....you could then plug in and use a full screen computer without paying a tethering fee. You can do the same thing with the HDMI dock and a bluetooth keyboard, but that is not as neat of a solution as you have to find a t.v. to plug into.

I still have to actually see how the design is on the car dock, but I have the HTC car dock for my EVO and I love it because the actual charging chord plugs into the base of the unit, while you can move the phone holder freely without the charging chord getting in the way. It seems like Motorola's dock for the Photon is the same, but the only thing I wasn't able to tell on the pictures is how the mount and charging port is set up on the base of the unit (or if it's somewhere else).

It wouldn't be up to Sprint if Motorola offered the dock. Thing is, Sprint offered the HTC HDMI dock for purchase (a few months after the phone released), so no reason they'd not offer it for the Photon.

Is it true that the car dock does NOT have a charging option? I have not been able to confirm this one way or another, but, I saw a review that stated it was just a mount and not a charger, too.

These things need charging often, esp. when using GPS etc.

I hope this is wrong, ...anyone know for sure?

Actually, I read it in the review linked below.... there HAS to be a car charging option....

Based on what was shown at the event on the 9th, I first thought that maybe I'd only be getting the laptop dock.

After closely inspecting the car dock, that's something I'm likely getting since it has the similar functionality as the HTC car dock I have for my EVO right now.

Interesting. That would be so absolutely pointless if they made the dock without the capability to charge...LOL. My hope is they made it like HTC's dock that has a micro usb input on the base. If not, I"ll be looking at other options for sure.

really have a need for the (truck) dock

interested in the desktop dock, but really can't seeing dropping that kinda money for it. will wait until someone figures out how to bypass the physical dock device and still allow for all the things you can do WITH a dock in place...

i seem to recall they figured out how to do it w/the atrix?

my guess is that the film is photo sensitive and reacts to light. how this works would be wgeb light hits the back side (what's touching the screen), the film then becomes transparent allowing you see what's going on. once the back-light disappears, the film resumes its natural status of being translucent or in its natural state....mirrored.

Default A magnet in the right place worked on the Droids

I think that a magnet in the right place on the back of the droids would make it think it was in a dock and go into media dock or web dock mode. I am not sure about how this worked on the Atrix. I think that there are some apps which can throw the older Moto droids into dock mode without the magnet.

One of the reasons I passed on the Evo 3d and am waiting on the Photon is its ability to do presentations through its HDMI out. I would like to be able to have the photon as a backup for powerpoints.

Anyone have any experience with a bluetooth keyboard and using it with an android phone. Any recommendations or warnings on keyboards?

Anybody ever bought skinomi products before. They already have a carbon fiber skin that I was considering getting, but I know eventually I'd swap that out with a different skin. No case for me.

If you look at pic # 9 of 23 in your first post you can see that the phone plugs into the car dock, so where you sit your phone you have to "plug" your phone into it so I would say it does charge it. Like you said its kinda pointless having a car dock that doesnt charge it,lol.

That's the thing, BanterandRant pointed out that in the article that I posted, it talks about how there's a microusb plug sticking out, but apparently all it does is activate the phone to go into "car mode." If that's the case, the dock won't charge unless Motorola has run wires through to the base of the dock, similar to how the HTC evo 4g and 3d car docks are.

WOW that would.be messed up if its true. Why on earth would ANYONE make one that doesn't charge,LOL. I actually hope iGrip makes one for the photon I like there's and with every phone I get I just change the holder. Like now I have the Evo 3D and a iPhone 4(work phone) and all I do is change the holder, they all fit the same base.

You know, the one thing I'm hoping for is to see more aftermarket manufacturers making accessories.

Nice. Thanks for pointing that out. I've never really purchased accessories from Sprint just because you could get much better deals online (that's even with the Premier accessories discount).

Okay, so I got curious about the "charging" aspect of the Photon specific dock made by Motorola, so I looked at the Atrix dock for comparison.

On Motorola & Best Buy's website, it says that there's a dual port power charger adaptor for charging, so I'd imagine they'd design the car dock exactly like they did for the Atrix, so that you can charge. It's possible that the reviewer just didn't look carefully:

I certainly hope so,LOL. From what I remember with the Evo 3D it showed up on the website at about 12:15am ET for the 3 day premier customer orders, so ill be checking starting at midnight. And it shows up for everyone but u can't order unless u sign in as a premier customer.

Ever since I got my EVO, I haven't been a big advocate for using a case due to the added bulk (and the fact that I pocket my phones). Otterbox has always seemed to make cases that were way too bulky, IMO,...but, the tradeoff is that everyone I've read about that uses otterbox cases says they're the most durable of all the manufactured cases, so that's definitely a plus for those that are rough on their phones and need something in that respect.

The dock showed up for premier customers on the same day as the early release?

If that's the case, I might order motorola specific accessories directly through Sprint, since there's also that premier discount on accessories (might be cheaper overall than anywhere else).

Does anyone know if the same HDMI cable that works for the EVO 4G will work with the Photon 4G? Thanks.
