Problem with making/receving calls
It just started today, I've had the photon since Friday. Twice today when I went to place a call it would show as connected but there was no ringing or answer, rebooted the phone all was well. Then a few hours later, when I received a call same issue, then I tried to place a call to see if the issue was back and it was so another reboot and all was well... for now.
Anybody else having a similar issue?

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. Several times I have tried to receive or make phone calls only to hear nothing. It has been very frustrating. I too reboot the phone and it seems to work fine for awhile. I hope this issue is addressed soon.

Sounds like a bug! I tried searching the Motorola forums but there is not a Photon page yet. Who do we escalate this to?
Had this happen several times to me. Level 2 Tech requested I remove battery for 30 secs then reinstall. No problems since but I have a trouble ticket and was told if it occurred again to take phone in and get a replacement. To me it seams like a software issue... So I am gonna wait it out.
Got my Photon today and had the same issue when my gf tried calling me. I did a quick restart and all was good. No problems since, but I'll monitor this.

When I picked up the Photon, i did a factory reset right off the bat. None of those issues thus far.
I opened a ticket with Motorola to see what can be done. I'll keep this forum posted on their results. I too did a battery pull after it happened for a second time yesterday. So far so good.....
On one of the other forums they figured out it had something to do with their old phones still being powered up. Powering off the old phone seems to have fixed the issues. So far so good for me.

Same here, did a reboot and it seems fine now. I'm not going to be finding out if its an ongoing issue though because the phone is going back for a replacement. This and slow 3G speeds aren't tolerable.

My old phone has been off since I got the new phone. I don't think this is part of the issue.

No need to escalate it, its a known issue and there will me a MR released this week to correct the issue. It will be a BOTA release you everyone will receive it. I will be happy to keep you updated on this if you would like.

YIKES!!!!!! I'm having this problem now! I can't hear anything when I make or receive a call.
I turned it off, took out the battery, put it back in & powered it on. So far the problem is fixed. I hope it stays that way.

What are the details of the MR? Are there any other fixes? How did you obtain this info?
I had the same problem. I got a call while I was at lunch, and there was just no audio. So I tried calling my other phone, and there was no audio both ways. A reboot cleared it up, but I'm going to keep an eye on it, just in case.

Just happened again, battery pull did nothing. I am hoping the MR update is true. Motorola support is useless.

Why is your profile indicating you are on "No posting probation" Makes me wonder how accurate your update was.....
Take this how you will, but...I was told by a friend who works at the call center here that it is a known issue. Didn't hear of a MR though. Let's hope so!
I have the problem too. Happened twice so far over the past 2 days, with reboots to fix. Does anyone know if this is just related to the dialer? I still get other sounds and I have been told my calls actually go through, just no audio in either direction. Perhaps a third party dialer would fix this without the OTA (who else is waiting on root )...
I may try one (probably dialer one) later tonight, (waiting on my 32GB SD card -- should be here today). If anyone else tries a 3rd party dialer can you post if the problem goes away -- these intermittent problems are hard to diagnose.

I tried TouchPal Dialer and it didn't seem to work. It dialed with touchpal and also dialed with the stock dialer and neither seemed to work. Is there a way to disable the stock dialer?

Not good I think the only way to disable the stock dialer is to root... but that seems to be coming sooner than we thought maybe.
I had this issue yesterday and a battery pull did the trick. I happened once again today (when picking up an important phone call). I shut the phone down this time which also worked.
Motorola doesn't come out with a MR soon this phone is going back.

This issue is a deal breaker for me. If this doesn't get fixed I'm not getting the Photon. If it can't do a basic phone function then it's worthless. I use these things primarily as phones. Major fail if not fixed soon.
i really really really really don't want to return this phone. but i work in a job that requires me to make and take dozens of calls a day, hundreds a week. I didn't have this issue today but i know its a matter of time before it will happen again......
grrrrrrrrrr
gps, bluetooth, wimax, wifi dont seem to be a cause of this, it is almost totally random.

I dl'd Dialer One, batt pull (for 5 mins), update profile and PRL. So far (all day) no problems. If it happens again I will update. Im not sure what/if anything fixed it but so far it worked.
It's happened to me 3 times now. Luckily, I'd already read this forum, so I knew to pull the battery. It's going back if no fix comes quickly. This is my home phone, too, and I need it to be reliable.
From what they saying at the Sprint Photon 4G forums there is a fix(software update) coming in the middle of the month to address this issue and others. This was a reply from a Sprint Tech about the people unable to hear and that you need to restart phone to fix the problem(I haven't experienced this yet on my Photon)...
Sprint tech:
Hello!
We have identified this issue and an upcoming software update should get this issue resolved on a permanent basis. The estimate for this update is that it will be out towards the middle of this month.
In the mean time, it should be only be on a per call basis, meaning that hanging up and trying again should correct the problem. If not, turning it off then back on again may get it corrected.
The hiccup is that it does not seem to effect every Photon. I can definitely agree that it's not at all convenient, but we are getting this fixed as soon as possible for those affected. I wish I had better news for you on this, but if I hear more, I'd be happy to share whatever I can that crosses my desk.

I know you're only relaying the message but that's incorrect. It's happened to me multiple times and was only corrected when I either pulled the battery or restarted the phone.
If not fixed soon this issue will kill phone sales. You would think that both Sprint and Motorola would want to get this resolved yesterday.
Indeed, overall I like the phone I can live with minor bugs and imperfections and hope that they get fixed eventually. But if this issue is a major problem and if it isn't fixed before my 30 return window closes I'm going to have to return the phone.
Also to concur with some of the other posts once the issue starts happening for me the only solution is to restart the phone. It is not a per call thing. Also I tried doing a factory reset and that has not helped.
Apparently it is random in the way it affects devices as well as when it happens to devices. I have had mine since Tues. morning and have not had this issue (bangs head on table to knock on wood).

OMG, I am having the same problem, have call coming in and answer but quiet, cannot hear anything. It happen to me evey time I receive call, answer but no sound. I think Sprint and Motorola need to come up with solution or phone will go back. It is not easy to remove the battery cover from this phone, it is very annoying by removing the battery every time.

You don't need to remove the battery, just shut it off and restart it. Still a pain but not as bad as doing a battery pull every time.

Got mine replaced yesterday because of this issue and guess what happened when I tried to make my first call today- same damn thing. Obviously Im going to have to make doing a reboot a morning task. I might as well own a Blackberry.

Hahahahahaaha thanks for the early morning laugh. Work was boring but this made my day. Anyways I have had this happen on my phone 2x now and it went away with a quick restart.

This is first and foremost a phone. If it can't function as a phone then I don't care about all of the other features. The device is useless until this gets fixed. Get with the program.
If it's not resolved by 9/1 I will be looking to buy another phone and I will completely avoid the Photon.
I know that Sprint reps and Motorola reps read this forum. This thread should be a sticky thread and be highlighted in red to warn prospective customers who, when all is said and done, want a phone that actually works as a phone.

It looks that way for me too, but I have read in another forum where someone said they changed their network settings to Sprint only and they still had the problem. I emailed Sprint about it and they said they did not know what I was talking about so I'm going to go to a repair center this weekend. I assume that it's a software problem, but in Motorola/Sprint aren't working on a fix that will come out soon I want a different model phone. Or if it's some fluke problem that only effects a small percentage of the Photons I'll take a different Photon, because aside from this problem I like the Photon.

Sprint and Motorola have teamed up to bring us the Motorola Photon 4G, the carrier's first international handset with Android. It's a 4.3 inch powerhouse with its dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and more.
