Default Questions regarding Photon

Hi Guys!... im new here, so, after posting my question, i take the time first to greet all the AndroidForums Community.

I'm from Venezuela and i'll be heading to NY this weekend for a vacation trip... i'm looking forward to buy a couple of Motorola Photon's. I have a few questions about this:

1) ¿Will those Photon's work with my local GSM carrier, although they're sold only by Sprint and can be used only with Sprint networks in the US? I've did a exhaustive research over the Internet to solve this question but i couldn't find an answer...

2) Considering there is not any problem using the Photon with my local carrier.. ¿Can i buy it on a Sprint retail store without any contract? That's because i can't order it on Amazon (there's a couple of retailers selling an unlocked version) because my local bank is pretty lame so i can't buy it online with my credit card.

3) If i can't buy it on a Sprint store... ¿Anyone knows about a retail store on NYC where i can find the cellphone unlocked?...

I'll be grateful if anyone can help me in this matter... i really want to buy my Photon to make my jump to Android and say goodbye to my Blackberry.

Thanks in advance!

I'll move your post to the Photon forum it'll most likely get a better response there!

1) I'm pretty sure someone outside of the US already successfully was able to use the Photon with an international GSM SIM card. The issue they were having was that the phone kept on wanting to revert to stock settings and jump back on the Sprint network. I don't know if that issue was ever resolved or if there's a reason the phone kept wanting to revert, but wanted to mention (since you were planning on purchasing while over here in the US).

2 & 3) I don't know if you can purchase through Sprint at full retail without signing up for a plan, but I think it'd be worth a shot to at least try. You may have better success purchasing at a 3rd party retailer, like Radio Shack, Best Buy, or Walmart, when you are here. I'm pretty sure they match pricing on full retail purchases as well, so you should be able to get the Sprint retail price.

I'd recommend just waiting a couple of weeks and buying an unlocked Atrix 2 online & having it shipped to Venezuela. It has a faster CPU, a slightly better screen, and it's 100% GSM from birth, so it won't spend the rest of its life having an identity crisis every time you do a factory reset and the nearest Sprint tower is 1,000km away in Puerto Rico.
