Default newbie needs help... print from phone? rooted?
Is there any way for me to print stuff from my phone to my canon mp620?

Try an app called PrinterShare. You can also find it on the Amazon App Store if you prefer that to Google Play.

Ditto. I bought the paid version when it was free on Amazon App of the day. Works perfectly fine.

I always wonder why our smart phones (based on Linux) are stripped of the Linux print utilities. Our phones should be able to print to any networked printer on the LAN.

I have never read a reasonable explanation of why this is not done.
