Default Google maps using 85% of battery

I checked battery usage for the day and it says 85% usage for Google maps..everything else is 10% GPS and wifi have been off all day...I'm at 34% unplugged 10 hours

yes.

that happens.

force close google maps and force close it any time you dont need it.

this bug is way more common than you think, and affects nearly all android devices. its most common in CM7 and gingerbread variants built on it.

no fix other than to have maps uninstalled or force close it anytime you know you arent using it.

keeping the GPS radio off doesnt help, its the app itself.

thats as far as my knowledge of it goes, I do know that i've had to force close maps in CM7 across all devices I've installed CM7 to in the last year or so.

Okay thanks I might just uninstall it for now to see how much battery it was really using

I used the Gemini app in expert mode to prevent google maps from starting itself. You could use mapquest instead.
