Default Triumph service magically turned back on after not putting time on phone for over 3 months?

Hey guys, got a weird issue but its not a problem i just cant figure it out honestly and its bugging me. So i had a triumph on release day yada yada and exchanged it on and off bout 7 or 8 times finally before got one that seemed to work right out any bugs. So to keep story short and to get to the point really, i stopped buying time for card like 3 or 4 months ago and flew back to tx and just been using wifi to power phone for my IM chats and web browsing and everything really.

So last night i was asleep and i heard my text message sound go off, i had been using a free text app which uses a different tone so i knew it wasnt that so i checked my messages and this is what was said. First one was..

" Low balance alert: Your balance is 5$ or less! To check ur balance plz log into yada yada site." 2nd one was..

"Date change, Your account start date has changed. Your month now begins on the 10th of each month." Then i get this one

"We recieved ur mo pymt & restarted ur service. Your next pymt is due 02/10/2012. If u have trouble with ur data connection, try turning ur phone off & back on." thats how it was spelt too btw.

So i was like hmm..so i called walmart to see if i had service and sure enough they answered..so i texted friend and they got, so then i turned off wifi on phone and on router and sure enough i had 3g and phone service again...

And to clairfy i never set up a auto renew for my phone or anything like that, no credit card or bank cards are assoiciated with the account, i just bought the cards in store and called it in or did it over phone.

Basically im trying to figure out how this happened, no one has my info to log into my account on site, cant do it from phone cuz it has cm7 on it, no one could of called it in without my info so...how and why did this happen? Anyone have any ideas to why it did? Well ty in advance or any info lol.

Maybe someone typed in your number when topping up with their pre-paid card?

Well, as you have not paid for the service you should call them to find things out. If they find out you have service and have been using it (even to test it out), they might be able to charge you for it . I would say calling them from the phone to try to figure stuff out would be the exception. But you might want to call from a different phone just in case.

Also seeing as how you have not paid for it, they should turn it off if it was a mistake. If they did it on purpose, then you get a free month . Using the service when you haven't paid for it could be interpreted as stealing (even if you didn't try to steal it ).

It very might be the case that your phone and the phone of whoever got your number after you stopped service are both activated somehow. And you might be using the minutes they bought. This last part is all just a wild guess.

well i logged into my account online and it shows that a 55$ dollar credit or card was put on my account and it shows unlimited everything. I just dont see how it could be a mistake if someone else even gave my number because like i said, if i recall u have to give number and ur PIN when u call them. And on site u have to do same so idk, i might call in few days..

Ya that last part u said bout sharing the time is kinda what i thought too but when i log into account online it shows my name still on the account but thats what i thought too. Maybe my number got reused or something and its linked but ya, guess we shall see. Its unlimited time so kinda wish it wasnt cuz then i could tell, well actually maybe if i log into account it would show calls made that i didnt make maybe? eh idk

Well someone was probably charged by mistake, I would definitely call and clarify it so you don't get stuck with a bill.

Well someone might have been charged incorrectly as well (or double charged). I can't really say why this happened, just that you should let VM know so that someone isn't charged extra because of a mistake. If I got charged twice because of a mistake and the other person didn't let them know, I would be mad. Wouldn't you?

I used to use VMusa before they had smartphones, back in like 03 and 04, and I remember where I went a few months without service and they gave me a month free more than once. When I called cs, they said they give out incentives to customers to get them to reactivate the service instead of abandon it.

I believe you just had a billing glitch in their system, but thats been my experience with them a long time ago.

also, T-mobile and their prepaid sidekick plan, they used to give me free minutes and stuff when I went a few weeks or months without service, or if I went on the live chat on the website and complained about a letigimate issue

boy am I glad the 25 dollar plan is so cheap i just can just keep constant service now and not worry about it.

Well here is the update, it might come out as a pic idk cuz i just copied from the email so hopefully it shows where u can see but ya this email should explain everything...lol

Hi Joshua,

It's not every day that a customer like you comes along. So as a token of our appreciation, we wanted to give you a little something special back...a full month of service on us!

That's right - we covered your monthly charge, no strings attached. It's our way of saying thanks for being a Virgin Mobile customer.

Sound too good to be true? Nah. We already added the money to your account on or around 1/10/12 so your phone will be set for a whole month. After that, just remember to pay your monthly payment to keep your service working.
Thanks, bye!
Virgin Mobile
P.S. If you've already paid your monthly payment this month, you can use the credit for next month's payment or other Virgin Mobile services.
This email was sent to you by Virgin Mobile to provide important service information about your account. You may receive customer service emails even if you have requested that Virgin Mobile not contact you about promotional offers.

I do have to say that this phone can have it's issues, and VM can have other issues with the network/service. But in most everything I have heard their Customer Service is top notch!
