People in the comments said devices launched in '11 and '12 so I'm hoping. Moto was horrible in updating and hopefully Google is changing that
wishful thinking
well the way i was looking at it is since our phone is discontinued they can literally just pretend its not even there and noone can do anything about it
as for the $100 refund benefit or whatever, in that ad it says that that $100 can Only go towards the phones they unveiled, which im assuming when they made this press release they probly announced some new phones and the $100 can only go towards them
Device(s): HTC One S (CM10),
Kindle Fire (CM10-SGT7)
Carrier: T-Mobile USA

thats the way i was seeing it anyway
That's how I was reading it too. They are announcing new devices so if the device isn't upgraded (not sure if they mean it for all devices or exclude discontinued ones), you get $100 off one of the new phones. I don't know if any of those will be released on VM USA so it may well be irrelevant for most VM USA customers.
Also, I merged a couple threads related to this. Let's keep the discussion here please.

Not to be a Gloomy Guss, but for the sake of the MTDEV team, I hope it does not include the MT. We will be fine some day without them and their horrible business model!!

Screw you Motorola!!! Dangle that carrot somewhere else. I just spent $279 for the current phone I use and now you want me to spend more. I would rather own 2 tin cans and some string!!! Thanks for NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do we have to have a plan in order to purchase one of the phones they have mentioned or can we just take the $100 because I want to get the new iphone 5 when it comes out.

According to the article you need to currently have a Motorola phone that's not getting jelly bean, and then u can get $100 off a different Motorola phone
No plan needed cause Motorola's are on alot of services
But there deff not going to give you $100 so you can goto apple lol
You couldn't currently use the $100 since the MT is the only Moto device on Virgin Mobile. That said, this sounds like something Google would say at a conference, not Moto, so perhaps it is a sign of change?
I doubt Droid 3, X2, and especially Triumph owners will be cashing in on this, though...

I didn't even think about this but here is the break down
1. We as Virgin Mobile customers can't not use the $100.00 credit because that means we would have to jump ship to leave Virgin. Virgin is not going to like that one bit. So that means Jelly Bean.
2. Motorola still gives us the $100.00 to spend on a phone on the Virgin Mobile Network...um yeah sure I can see Motorola booting sales for HTC NOT!!! So that means Jelly Bean.
3. Motorola could release the RAZR HD on Virgin Mobile however that is meant for Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T Networks. I hear a law suite coming for selling a major phone to the small guy network. So that means Jelly Bean.
4. Motorola could release some other Android phone but they are going to then give that phone away for $100.00 off sticker price and it's going to have to have Jelly Bean. But it can't be a flag ship phone for a major network, and it has to match the specs of the Triumph or better. To much work and to much money loss. So that means Jelly Bean
I really believe that we are going to get Jelly Bean. Maybe I am crazy because of all the coding lately but why wouldn't they do it? It's not like they don't have the in-house expertise to upgrade the kernel, and the lib files. I mean all of us MT Developers have done all the heavy lifting they just have to plug in there little propitiate files, build, and DONE!
Yeah I think I am seeing Jelly Bean in my future!!!!

Option 5 is they don't upgrade the device or introduce any new phones to VMU, and almost nobody takes them up on the $100 offer, because it means losing an affordable plan just to spite Moto (who won't care, because they will have sold a new device to you).
That said, the subsequent news does sound like they are serious, and the Triumph was release in July '11, making it prime for this push they are doing. It is certainly more promising then their past release which stated the Triumph would be stuck on Froyo for the rest of time.
A Triumph with JB (assuming no glaring issues) would be more compelling than the One V, Reverb, or basically anything else on VM but the Evo V.

Well, for one, you have to trade in the phone to get the $100, they don't just give you $100 off for nothing. Also, they don't have to provide it on Virgin Mobile. I didn't see anything that said that they had to provide those new phones on your current carrier. So to take them up on the deal you would have to go to another carrier. Thus you would have to jump ship to take them up on what basically amounts to a $100 trade in deal. Doesn't look promising to me, but I am only guessing. Let's hope they work it out!

Also part of getting the $100 is u must send them ur old phone, so technically ur selling ur triumph to them for $200 less then u paid if u got it early like me
Then paying full price, even tho u got a hundred ur still in the red for a new Motorola phone
If Motorola is making a claim to either give ICS or $100 off for all phones, then I expect them to give ICS or $100 off for all phones. If you make a claim like that, I'm going to hold you to that claim, especially at a live keynote event as the head of the company. If they keep their word, I'll gain a lot of respect for that company and more likely stick with them. Don't let them off the hook so easily just because we use a cheaper service. Or because our phone is "unloved". If they say they're going to do something good for their customers, let's see it!
Bring it on Motorola!

lmao I was just going to go to another plan and just use that $100 to pay for a two year contract but then again the triumph has so much potential and I really do want it to have JB I know its capable of running the software.

Lol I for one would LOVE this, although it won't happen.
Why?
UMM, fully functional Jellybean? What does that mean? 3.0 kernel, functional camera libs for ICS. PERFECT CM10 and CM9. More compatible CM11 when it comes out. I mean, come on. Who wouldn't want this?
Went ahead & registered with moto via link at end of article. Triumph is listed in model/carrier list (vm? listed as 'other' lol). Figure can't hurt to find out what we might get either way.
g60 has stickied direct moto register link at top Motorola Triumph forum page.

Reason: didn't see g60's sticky on top of mt page

I agree that HTC Evo V is the only phone that is better than Triumph. But you cannot beat the $25/month plan!
Therefore, if triumph was upgraded we could stick with this phone for a VERY long time!
I purchased triumph last November for $115 (there was a deal 50% off from all Virgin mobile phones). At that time I also sold my Optimus V for $70. A month ago my screen cracked. I called VM support and told them about this issue. To my surprise, they issued me a brand new Triumph phone without any questions asked!
Therefore, I have a new Triumph phone for $25/month that I paid for $115-$70 = $45 back in November.
Seriously, VM sometimes can provide amazing deals.
Even now, you can switch to $25 plan link, but only with phones like Triumph and earlier.
I would say no, like mentioned it is virgin mobile, and the device probably doesn't have "enough" users for them to justify spending the time to produce it. Thats why they're offering $100 towards one of the new Razrs: Razr HD, Razr - M, or Razr Maxx HD. If you don't plan on getting one of them then you won't see the $100.
That is what I read at least. I will be very surprised if the MT gets jb to be honest

It'll never happen. They may have the expertise but zero incentive. The MT is on the downswing of its lifecycle and there is no $ in it. They will not assign devs a task on a device that will not generate more income. And by 'MT Developers' I hope you dont mean the devs on these forums? There is no way a company would assume a rom created by hobbyists was good to go and release it as their own. The lawsuits would be to the moon.
As somebody pointed out - at best we would be offered $100 credit for our MTs. Better to sell it privately for $120 cash!
I loved my MT but the flaky GPS drove me crazy. I cant tell you the amount of times Ive been driving and the thing would not get a fix when I really needed it. Last week, I jumped ship to the EVO and flashed to a stripped down rom (no VM junk). Im loving ICS and 'Google Now' and the instant GPS. I did lose my $25 plan but it made little difference because paying $25 a month for a device that wasn't working as it should was a bigger issue to me.

i think G60 was speaking on terms like if the motorola team is going to each device like can this run JB, then for ours it's 100% yes it can, our MTDEV team already has JB running on our device, all Motorola would technically have to do is input the files or give them to a dev and we could have Full JB, and while they probly wouldnt do either, it still atleast shows that the device can handle it
i personally think its very much going to depend on how many people still own a triumph, cause if Thousands of people still have it they would save money by upgrading it and not shelling out $100 to each person
That being said again im not going to try and hold my breath lol, and even if they did release Official JB id only have it installed as long as it took for a MTDEV-JB to spring up lol
Maybe moto will upgrade, they are figuring out people don't want to buy moto phones if there is no updates, why bother when you can buy another brand that will update
my lilttle brother was telling me about an article he read on his lepan tablet website, apparently with the number of smartphones and tablets, alot of devices havent been getting updates, of course the triumph is worse then most with it, other devices normally get security or firmware updates every now and then
but my little brother bought the lepan 2 when it first cam out and it was supposed to be able to get an ics upgrade right from the get go, that tablet didnt get the ICS update until like 2 weeks ago and it was only the 7th tablet to get the ICS update
The best part is about a week and a half after he bought the tablet, his exact tablet was available with ICS on it already, yet his which came with honeycomb needed to wait 4 months till it was able to get the upgrade, and Now theres Jellybean lol
and while most of what ive been saying is about a tablet its been the same for alot of phones as well, the companies have been failing to put out updates in alot of cases and if you think about it, its all about money
if you buy a $300 phone like the triumph and it got updates often then by now we would already have official JB on our phones, but that means as long as were happy were not giving them more $$$, so they only get $300, BUT if you have a $300 phone like the triumph that gets 0 updates and never gets an android update even tho it was sold saying it would then eventually your going to ditch it for a better phone by them or a different manufacturer
so then you offer the people $100 for there $300 phone so they feel like there atleast getting something, and they must use that 100 towards a new motorola phone, the cheapest of which i think ive seen is the Razr M for $100, so again the people think there winning when its basically a free Upgrade which contract companies give there customers every 2 years or something
then a year or so from now they can do something similar to try and keep people coming back to them

This phone isn't even a real motorola, read my post here : http://androidforums.com/motorola-triumph/619397-three-dead-triumphs-vm.html#post4977103
Do you really believe that after all this time without a single maintenance fix for all the issues that the phone has they are just going to jump 3 OS versions plus still have the same flaws existing? I certainly don't believe that.

I just spoke to Motorola support. All dumbo could tell me was to sign up for the news to see if my phone would be eligible for the upgrade. He couldn't give me any sort of time frame on when I would find out.
FWIW, in my case, the support rep. told me the $100 promo gift card would only be applicable to the Motorola RAZR M which is on Verizon. Even if Verizon would pick up at my home I'm not going back to contract.
I don't think Motorola itself knows what to do. They have this guy going up on the stage and saying Motorola is committed blah blah blah, we love you, please love us back, typical presentation BS, like one of those "revolutionary" phone with non-working maps. Then he says if we can't deliver we will give you $100. Then he goes back to the headquarters and says, screw them, let's make a footnote so no one can sues us.
I can count at least 5 devices from Moto that was abandoned without any explanation (whoever bought GPS from Moto I feel you pain, guys!). They lost any credibility long time ago. Even Google doesn't want them for what is worth. All Google wanted is patents, they got them and now they getting rid of them.

The Motorola Triumph for Virgin Mobile sports a 4.1-inch screen on a super thin .4-inch body. With a 5MP camera that shoots HD video, a VGA front-facing camera, and HDMI-out, the Triumph offers a great set of features for Virgin Mobile customers ea... Read More
