I know there have been some threads about apps but like every other device on this forum, I wanted to give everyone a chance to voice or talk about the apps that you would all find essential to download to your shiny new Xoom. Here are a couple that I am looking forward too:
-TweetDeck - probably the best Twitter app on the market...and it's FREE
-Lookout or another form of mobile security would be nice
-Angry Birds is a MUST!
-Netflix or Hulu+ - these will eventually make it but none-too-soon
-DoubleTwist - my favorite music/video app out there...puts the kaibosh to iPods and iPads...
-Astro File Manager is also a must
-Deja Office is a great app for contact managment if you are a business type
These are obiously just a few apps and most will not be formatted to the tab right away but I am really hoping that the App Market will pick up soon with tab friendly apps that don't look stretched and fuzzy.

One of the first apps I download will be Pulse News Reader. Its too cramped and laggy on the OG droid, but should be great on the big screen.
Can't wait to play jet car stunts on the xoom. Will also buy some new gameloft games I have been holding out for since they are not portable from one device to the next with your google account.
Device(s): Droid X, Leaked 2.2.
Xoom with 70 apps that work.

Would really like to know about apps that are formatted for tab. I already have all these on my phone!

Hey does anyone on here use Trillian? I can't get it to connect on the Xoom. It keeps telling me error connecting to server. BLAH. My Droid can use it just fine and sign in. I'm not happy about that one as I'd love to have Trillian working when I'm out and about on the Xoom.

Is there an app with a widget that shows how much data over 3g you've used?
Also, my accuweather widge doesn't seem to show any actual info. Anyone else have this issue?
Yea, the widget is broken. Someone else said they contacted accuweather and they are looking into it. I suspect we'll see an update for it soonish. The VZW guy who configured my Xoom this morning eluded to the fact that there's an app for tracking 3G usage. We'll have to try to track that down I guess.

My Verizon for tablets in the market.
However I went through registration process and it said it would send me a text to my tablets mobile number. Only problem I do not see a text message app.

I don't recall the exact name of the app, but the sales guy at Verizon Wireless today was showing me a free app (from Verizon? or from Android market?) that does monitor and report your data usage so you can keep track and stay under the limit you've paid for ...

What the?? A text message?! This thing blocks all SMS apps from being installed, so, uh, how is that supposed to work? sigh.

You can view data usage without a password as long as you are connect to the 3g network. You need the login info if you're on wifi. As for the registration for My Verizon, I have found out that the only way for us to register is to begin the process online, when it says look for the text... the system attempts to send you one for 24 hours or something and once it fails you get as password delivered to you via USPS. fail

Side load 3g Watchdog.

first, for the 3G data, i just use skyfire to go to the myverizon.com website. get all the info you need. the app in the market is delayed and not really reliable if its delayed (my opinion).
as for setting up the my verizon page. yes it will attempt to send you an sms. what i did was call vzw tech support. the lady (she did this before to a broadband card user) used spare handset she uses to test.. she put that handset on my account, i then hit send on the webpage to generate the sms message. she gets it on the phone in her hand, she reads the message to me.. i then proceed to set up the account. its a workaround and it works. i suspect a lot of new vzw users with the xoom will be doing this until vzw updates their automated system...
also i am able to get 23% off my plan thru the employee pricing which will come in handy for that 80 dollar a month plan...
Has anyone tried Words with Friends yet? I downloaded it and its stuck in portrait mode and the row of letters isn't visible. I'm wondering if the app that was demoed was a tablet version thats still a work in progress.

I'm using 3g Watchdog... pulled the apk off my DX since it doesn't show in market for Xoom yet.
It works on the Xoom, no force closes etc.

oh i totally forgot about that app, going to check that out when i get home. i remember seeing google show that off a few a weeks ago and it looked awesome.
Not getting Stupid Zombies to work. It comes up to the game designer's title screen but never makes it past that.
happened to me. I back out of it and reopen it and it works fine. but initially it hangs on the developer screen. otherwise it works awesome. high res and everything.
If you folks can find PSX4Droid 1.6, you will be stunned how great PSX games play on with Tegra 2. Dead or Alive and Tekken 3 play smooth with sound. Jerky slow messes on my Incredible and Droid X.
The newer versions of the app are slower, but have better sound. I prefer frame rates and "okay" sound. Still, even the V2 of PSX4Droid in the markt plays a lot faster on the Tegra 2 than other chipsets.
"Extended Controls" is an essential app for me on my Evo, and it's working for me on the Xoom.
It allows you to create customized toggle bar widgets in a small area, to conserve screen real estate. I've got it set up on Xoom to allow me to toggle syncing, wifi, airplane mode, and show battery % in a 3 tile wide row. Transparency turned up so it barely shows.
However I went through registration process and it said it would send me a text to my tablets mobile number. Only problem I do not see a text message app.
I have the same issue. When I look in the VZW app, there is actually a phone number associated with the tablet - they apparently assign is a number as that's the only way to track it in their system. The problem is they send the text with the password to that number. There's some fine print saying they will send the password by regular mail to your address in 3-5 days, so I guess I'll just have to wait for that.
The app and the widget will show your data usage without having to log in.

Hows your battery with that apps doing the recent reviews say its been killing battery faster than before

When I go into the marketplace, there are only 16 tablet apps. It does not include many of the apps mentioned in this thread. Is there a way to pull up all the tablet apps in the marketplace app besides those 16 listed under the android apps for tablet screen?

Just because many work just fine it does not mean they are "Tablet Optimized".
There will be many that get optimized in they next few months. Some will charge extra and some will remain free.
Yea, and to answer that more completely, the complete honeycomb sdk has only been available for less than a week, I believe. It's going to take a bit of time for the devs to work with it and fine tune their apps. I'm sure as we move forward we'll see plenty more apps show up in the tablet section of the market. Give it some time.

If you go to the android market website from your xoom and type in tablets in the search box you find more apps on the site then you do through the market app itself
