Default Staples will sell WiFi only unit end of March early April

According to an internal sales training memo to Staples employees, the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi only model will launch sometime near the end of March/early-April.

Take it for what it is. If Staples is getting a Xoom, it will definitely be the WiFi only unit.

Xoom lands on Verizon February 24th, WiFi only model at end of March? ByteNow

With all the outlets selling Xooms this thing is going to do really well.

I think the WiFi only unit is killer and will do very well. The $800 unit, not so much. Especially after Apple's iPad 2 presser next week.

This is great news. If I buy the Xoom it will be WiFi only. I may still hold off to know more about the Toshiba but it is good to know that I could opt for the Xoom (an amazing product on its own) in a month or so.

WiFi only is the way I'm going. My Costco AMEX card has a hole burning in it. I will be there at 10:00 a.m. to pick it up the day it's released

I went to the link and it mentions 'Motorola Tablets training'. I saw no mention it is the wifi only tablet. Did I miss something?

Since there is only the carrier version through VZW, the fair assumption is the Xoom tablet wifi-only from any other retailer.

Default "Motorola Tablets Training" at Staples: Where's the news?

So, according to this thread, Staples employees should've received tablets training from Motorola yesterday.

Where are the leaks? Does no one have a friend at Staples?

Default WiFi-only, Silver/Black Xoom: $599 at Staples, Available on March 27th

Picture of Staples inventory system:

March 27th is the launch date, according to the upcoming Staples ad. You can also see that it has the black-and-silver back. Staples' tablet URL isn't live yet.

Edit: This is new information, and it's definitely worth a new thread, not being attached to an old dead one.

Wondering about Costco and Amazon. Just two day's ago one of the Version store managers told me Motorola would never release a Xoom Wifi-only model.

What do ya want them to say? Their job is to sell data plans.

Great!!! I took my 3G+wifi XOOM back to store. I was only using it on wifi, so I couldn't justify paying the extra 200 bucks for 3g capabilities that I probably would never use. I was actually contemplating getting an ipad, but now that I know that the wifi XOOM is coming I'll get it instead.

If Toshiba remains silent on their tablet to the end of the month, I'm going to have a difficult decision to make.

Was in a different thread I think...or maybe it was someone else....I just get frustrated with people claiming there are no apps when all the apps that are needed are there. (only one I know of that I need that doesn't exist is the Cisco Anywhere VPN app)

It's not the number of apps available but the function of the ones that are there that matters.

Exactly. I'm sure they make money on the devices, but the plans are their bread and butter.

Well it looks like March 27th for $599. After the comparisons I may end up going with the iPad 2. $499 is my price point and the iPad 2 does what I need. These companies just don't get it. Hopefully Costco/Sam's Club sells the WiFi Model for around $540.

Default Xoom wi-fi on sale at Staples

I saw on another forum that some Staples were selling them early and a quick phone call to my local store confirmed it. I'm using it now :-) They had just set the display up and didn't have any units out yet but grabbed me one from the back.

Walked in to my Staples at 9 AM this morning and have been playing with it for hours already. Lots of fun.

Btw, the Staples website said available in store for pick up and when I said that they let me buy it.

Damn, tried again and used the "I see the website says you have them in stock, do you still have any left?"

No beans. Not set to release until tomorrow at 10am when the store open. BOOOOOOOO

Maybe Walmart will have a Midnight release??? That'll work. So begins the search.

Guess I knew how that was gonna end... Called 3 local Walmarts.
  1. Checked the computer and said they had a shipment coming in later this week.
  2. Left me on hold for at least 10-15minutes and then asked me if it was a phone. When I explained, he said that he hadn't heard anything about it. Apparently doesn't know how to operate a computer.
  3. This one was a real treat. As soon as I asked the question, "When will you be getting the Motorola Xoom in stock?", he acted as though I was crazy. "There's no way for me to know that, sir. I have no way of checking." I was in such shock that I didn't even think to ask if he knew how to use the big glowing box in front of him. He probably would have said some like "You mean the TV showing the same boring TV show it always plays?"
Anyway, guess I'll be stopping by Staples before Church tomorrow. I'll do my best to focus.

As pathetic as it seems, that associate was telling the truth. Walmart's inventory system doesn't tell you exactly when something is coming in. The best you can do is guess based on warehouse quantities. The store only figures out what's delivered each night when the truck gets there. It's lame and sounds like an excuse, but there you are. The best part is half the time the computer inventory is wrong.

Be sure to download the app Spare Parts and in its settings, UNCHECK compatibility mode or you're going to find a lot of apps that run the same size as on your phone!
