Got mine at 4:00 today. I'm loving myXoom. For some reason I'm having a major lag typing on this forum but no where else. Gaming is awesome. Movies rock. Screen is amazing. So much to learn. Its nice.
The same... there is a lag when typing in this forum for me too... not a long one, but its there. This is the only site I've had that problem w/ today tho.

Got mine from Costco today! 90 days return time (which I thought I'd needed, 'till I took it home and used it!) was a lot better feeling than the 14 at VZ/BBY, plus they're rebating my activation fee.
Only issue I've got is you can't register on MyVerizon 'cause they wanna send you a text message to validate your account, and we can't get one. There's a thread about it on the VZ forums, turns out they gotta send you a PW via Snail Mail, which blows chunks- can't believe they screwed that up at Big Red.
there is a workaround that involves calling tech support and having them temporarily add a phone to your account so you can send the message to them. they will read the message over the phone. i am a new vzw customer and that is how i did it and my account is working proper:

No one else seems to be having luck getting a VZW tech support person to do this. There are threads about this at Android Central and the VZW forum. The only solution being offered up to people is snail mail.
the tech must be lazy then. the tech i spoke with did not waste any time. she went got a test phone and took care of it. its just a couple mouse clicks on their terminal. there really is no excuse for them not to do it. these techs (sprint does i know) are supposed to have phones around them to test out text messaging, mms, etc. so they must be too lazy or just ignorant on how to do it..
it literally took this woman 5 minutes from phone call of me explaining to me hitting send to me hearing her test phone chirp... call back, get someone else in tech support and explain to them its been done. hell go into the store.. bring an old verizon phone if you have one and have them do a temp swap right there...

Well, nobody could get MarcTronixx' workaround going at VZ, so I just gave up and waited for my PW, which showed up today, and I was able to finally validate my account.
Thing is, the upcoming VZ iPad2 won't be able to get the SMS validation message either- and I cynically wonder if they're going to work any harder to rectify this issue once they start getting those into customer hands?

Probably...since it's an IPad and IPad users are usually not patient or as tech savy as us real tablet users. Haha. I'm just playing, but no really.
P.S. I got one at Verizon after one store told me I had to activate it. Bull honky!
Well after playing with the iPad 2 for a couple of days now I came to the conclusion that it was not for me. To me it felt like a blown up iPod Touch. I have a 32gb iPod Touch (3rd Gen) and while the iPad 2 is bigger and the screen looks better, it felt like I was using my iPod Touch. I took it back to BestBuy and got a Xoom (No Activation Fee and No Data Plan Required, happy about that). I will test out this unit until Mar 27 and if I like it I will return it and get the WiFi only model and save $200 (I have a 30 day window as a return). I hope the MicroSd, USB and Flash is all up and working correctly by then. I have a Rooted HTC EVO and really enjoy Android. I love Rooting and doing what I want with MY device. Now I will say the iPad 2 is very nice but just did not grab me. The thing that is important to me is USB, Expandable Memory and Flash as the iPad 2 does not have any of those items (I thought I would be fine with that BUT the Geek PC Enthusiasts in me could not get over that). Hopefully the Xoom will fit my needs.
This is not my first Android device (have an Incredible), but I have to say that my first impressions of the Xoom are very good. This is my first posting on this site and I wanted to make it from my new tablet. I love the fact that when I first synced my device, Google noticed and allowed my to install apps I already paid for in the market. Okay, back to playing with the Xoom!

Def pickup the Tapatalk app if you plan to use the forums it's so worth it....I have may be ten forums set as faves in it. Also know that you may get some non-tablet versions of apps when the store downloads the apps you had on your previous Droid...you can uninstall and go get again and you'll get the right version. That happened to me as my phone is Droid X (which I love)....and I didn't get a couple of tablet-optimized versions until I reloaded those few apps. This can happen with Youtube where you don;t get the 3D wall experience sometimes.

Yes, agreed. I have Touchdown for all of my Exchange mail on my DINC and noticed that I need to grab the tablet version from the marketplace. I will have to checkout Tapatalk, thanks for the heads up!
I did. It think this forum was on tapatalk anymore.I am missing tons of of apps that I have on my nexus s. They didnt switch over and I can't find them in the market.. luckily mlb at bat transfer ed over or I would be super pissed
I was sceptical picking up the XOOM and fully accepted that that I may return it. But after using it for 24 hours I have absolutely no regrets! The device is exactly what I expected. It is just plain fun!!
For those who have spent time crticizing the XOOM, spend some quality time with it rather than having a knee jerk reaction.

I absolutely agree!
So far I have had only one issue. Mine doesn't always come back out of sleep and I need to reboot it. I just sat it down on my desk and it just went to sleep. All of a sudden it rebooted itself. Any ideas? I don't have any funky apps loaded....
After a dispute with Staples Online, I picked my WiFi XOOM yesterday morning. And I love it. App devlopers need to get with it and update their apps. Most work ok, but look weird (looking at you Phandroid *snicker*). Make sure to download CNN and Pulse to see what the tablet is capable of.

Picked mine up first thing Sunday morning at Staples. My company gets a discount at Staples, so I saved $50!
I don't think I put it down all day until I went to bed last night. After reading various reviews and whatnot for the past month, I was a little worried about what to expect... but honestly, aside from a few force closes on one or two insignificant apps, it has worked flawlessly!
I have it set up to control my Dish Network DVR and my Google TV already and even installed Citrix so I can access my PC at work through it.
Picked mine up at around 10:30 at Costco. I think I may have been the first one to get it. They had at least 30 of them available. Of course I still have 1 coming from Costco.com that is due to be delivered on Friday (hence why I just went out and purchased in store.) Still need to break it in a bit but so far I am very optimistic about it.
Grabbed one for the wife from Bestbuy. Found it a little funny that they sold it in the mobile department and _not_ the PC/laptop department where the Ipad is sold despite the fact that it's wifi only... but hey that's life.
She's been on it non-stop so I guess that means it's a success. Admitedly though the purpose for the device was very narrow:
1. She wanted an ebook, and we discovered that rather than getting locked into nook/kindle markets, that this would let her use whatever market had what she wanted.
2. I noticed she often surfed on her little samsuck moment while watching TV ... this would give her a much more manageable screen to work with.
Dreams of full blown googledoc editing will wait until we can procure a BT keyboard ... but at least cloud print is out now so she can print just fine to the printer at home.
For me: I'm jealous of how fast/smooth it is... but I think letting her beat on it for awhile first is a good thing as I'd get frustrated at the lack of an SDK (shakes fist at google).

At least they were out on the shelf. At my local Best Buy, I had to go ask and they had them behind the counter with DorkyGeeks sign above it. As of today, they still don't have it out on the shelf. They must get a bigger margin from Steve.

I haven't had that issue. Mine hasn't rebooted yet. 30 hours and counting and it is working flawlessly
I was just gonna say how awesome this product was when my internet on the xoom crashed. I just reseted the router and it started working again. Anyways, so far I have been happy with the xoom. Pretty quick and efficient for such a small device. Everything I have hoped for and then some.
I believe it was the TouchDown App for Exchange. I narrowed it down to that and now it works fine. I contacted their support and hopefully they will resolve it soon.
I picked mine up today at Best Buy here in Atlanta. They were locked behind the cage along with the iPad 2 in the computer department. Very impressed with it so far. I'm Loading some music and movies on it now.
I got mine from Staples, played with it for about 5 hours, reboxed it, returning it today. I have cheap netbooks that give me more power and usefulness than this $600 toy. Apps, schmapps, there's not even a native note taker, ya gotta get an app. (Of course you can always use google docs etc, but nothing quick and dirty....can't read a book, no built-in reader, what th-.) The touchscreen is poorly calibrated and I couldn't find a way to make corrections..also insensitive at times. I'm happy to get this off my hands and spend the same amount for a 17-inch notebook. no more pads for me until the 2nd or 3rd generation.
Paid $650 new in box for the Verizon version. Just got it in the mail today. I'm gonna mostly use WiFi but wanted to have the option to use 3G/4G if need be. Very glad with my purchase and Honeycomb has HUGE potential. Typed from my Xoom :-)
Just got mine the other day from Bestbuy. Its been a real experience considering I have never even had a smart phone before. Starting to get the hang of this thumb keyboard app. Just need to find the shift key

+1 for the option to upgrade to 3G / 4G. Mine just got dropped off by Fedex. It's cold out and it feels like a block of ice. Going to let it get to room temp before I plug it in...Although I'm tempted
Got the wifi Xoom yesterday. Took me a few minutes to figure out the layout and get into settings. Preliminary thoughts after several hours of use:
1. I like the layout and the weight. It's comfortable to use on the couch or in bed. I'll be getting a case with a kickstand to use it elsewhere.
2. Even though I washed my hands, after a couple of hours the screen looks like it was used by someone eating fried chicken. I'm on the wall about a screen protector, though, because video is really nice on it - but it is better with no fingerprints.
3. Kindle subscriptions seem to not work (at least not yet). In my Amazon account, I set it to deliver the NYTimes to the Xoom (it was there as an option). And it was delivered this morning, and in the Periodicals section it showed "1". However, the Xoom threw some error in the Kindle app about an "unsupported format". Was hoping to substitute this for the Kindle. Guess not yet.
4. Apps: Now, this is a problem. Most of my apps work on the tablet just fine. BUT, updating the apps on the Xoom removes them as "updates available" on my EVO. So, I either need to switch to a different Google account for the Xoom or parse out the applications between the two.
5. I hope the LauncherPro dev is working on a tablet version (you can buy the unlock for LauncherPro in the market, but I didn't see the free version anywhere). ADW does work and looks pretty good.
6. The battery isn't user replaceable. Not something I'm worried about now, but the idea of having to ship it somewhere for replacement leaves me a little cold. I'll probably root it at some point so I can do a Titanium backup of everything, then wipe it before sending it in. But I'm guessing that won't be necessary for at least a year.
7. I really do not like that there are no drivers for Macs for this. (If anyone knows of any, I'd appreciate a link.) Meaning (especially for transferring large files), that you have to have Windows. I tried transferring some movies via WiFi and it crapped out on me after about 20 minutes. Then tried using the Mac - nothing. Read Motorola's support and they have a driver package for Windows only. But it works fine on Windows.
8. Speakers are nice. I wasn't expecting any kind of magical audio experience, but they're very good for this kind of device.
9. Bluetooth works well. Although the movie I was watching began stuttering very badly when the BT headset became unpaired. Not sure what caused that. Repaired the headset and everything was fine.
10. Battery life seems to be really nice. After eight hours of use (including being unplugged but turned off over night), it was still reporting 73% battery left.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed and think the Xoom will work fine for my needs. If the Kindle subscription thing ever works, I'll use the Xoom instead and will probably carry it every day. Right now, it's more of a couch/bed tool. And I can see using it for some of the reference materials I've been carrying around on a netbook (just depends on how well Adobe Reader works on the Xoom).
4. Apps: Now, this is a problem. Most of my apps work on the tablet just fine. BUT, updating the apps on the Xoom removes them as "updates available" on my EVO. So, I either need to switch to a different Google account for the Xoom or parse out the applications between the two.
Let me say, as someone with the same Google account linked to my Xoom and my Nexus One, that I DON'T have this problem. I'd post in the troubleshooting forum under EVO or Xoom to check it out. I get separate updates for apps on both my devices just fine.
The Following User Says Thank You to BiggestManEver For This Useful Post:
Thanks for the responses. I'll keep an eye on it for now - maybe it was just a set up fluke.
The EVO showed two updates available, but I did not update.
Setup the Xoom, it downloaded most of my apps and showed two updates for the same apps, so I installed them.
Went back to the EVO to install the updates there, and they were gone. Did not re-appear on a reboot, either. Not a big deal - IIRC, they weren't major updates and I'll catch the changes in the next ones.
But I'll be watching it in the future to see what happens and, if it occurs again, I'll post it as a bug.
Bought my Xoom from Amazon last week and got it on Friday. I was a kid in a candy store.
Have to say the setup for wireless, accounts, etc was a piece of cake. I was literally up and running in 2 minutes. Over the past 4-5 days, I've been able to figure out how to use widgets, moving the icons around, adding work e-mail (exchange), books, etc.
Last night I closed it up and had this huge smile knowing that this thing is freaking awesome and quite honestly makes my life so much simpler as it is "always on" and I can pretty much handle any of my computer needs on this system.
A few thoughts...
1. Bought the Acase black leather case for it. Fits fantastic, but the ledges" to hold it at different angles are not the best. Sometimes it will slip out of its place out of the blue. May return it.
2. Android market... I haven't explored extensively, but I seem to have a few probs finding what I want. For example... my kids want to play solitaire on it. So, when I "search" solitaire, I get just 4 results. However, when I browse through card games, I see far more than 4 apps. Am I doing something wrong?

Got mine last thursday with vzw. Totally out of impulse. I'm not regretting it, just dreading the wait for more apps and the 4g update, although I'm good with 3g and probably will be for a while :-)
Picked up my Xoom this afternoon. Opted for the wifi version as I can use my Nexus S as a wifi hotspot, works really well!
I was on the fence with regards picking up a Xoom now or waiting for the Samsung Galaxy 10.1, no regrets at the minute, Motorola have turned out a nice device.
