ok, i'm having the same problem now that jcolt is having. I'm using ulead to make the icon's/text. in ulead i have the graphic saved at 150x50, but it comes out to small on the xoom using DV. What size should i save the graphic so its big enough for me to see on the xoom?
That's what i thought, just wanted to make sure. Great job and way to think outside the box!
got another one for you. What size did you make your icons and backgroup? I tried 1280x800 but it's still to big.
I made my icons 800 pixels wide, can't remember the height (I'm not at my home laptop to see). You have to remember though that the icons will be resized to whatever widget size you use in Desktop Visualizer.
ghoticov, you need to change the title of this thread from "Lets see your XOOM Desktop / Wallpaper" to "Tutorial: How to create my awesome desktop"
No need for us to fiddle around and post our hobo desktops... yours wins. We must have it!!
LOL
Well, I have to give a lot of credit to a guy name CZonin on a few other boards. He inspired what I have and pointed me to the Minimalistic Text widget.
And mine doesn't win, everyone has their own taste.
thanks for the info....i can set it all up in the app but it isn't adding the widget to the homescreen. am i missing something? i added a 1x5 widget, edited it, saved it but nothing happens after that. probably something simple that i'm missing
Minimalistic Text can be buggy at times, I assume it is because it is not optimized for Honeycomb yet.
One way I got around mine not showing up on my home screen was I created the widgets on a different screen and the dragged them to my main screen. I created them one by one on my far right screen (since I don't use it for anything). They all seemed to show up that way and I have had no issues.

That is something that is out of my league, I needed A LOT of help to do it. Basically you have to install the Android SDK on your computer and then plug the xoom up, it will show as a device and you can choose "Device" then "Screen Capture".
You do not have to be rooted but you have to install the Android SDK and the latest Java. If you do a search on the XDA Xoom forums there is a huge thread there on it and it will explain it.
I couldn't ask a favor could I, I would like to get your Wallpaper but with the XOOM/Moto logo moved up about two lines of the text that's showing behind it. I want to add links below it but the logo is about a 1/4 in too low. If not no biggie. Thanks for all of the help with these desktops. I'm sure you have created some Monsters, me included LMAO.
Nevermind, I edited it in MS Paint.

Nice!
I actually thought about making just TEXT icon links instead of the buttons look... just haven't done it. Not sure if I will though but yours looks nice!

I know this is sorta tasteless, but would you be willing to pôst a zip file of the icons you made? I am sure i am not the only one that would like to use them.

Sure, here ya go. I did some blue border ones for someone else, a red border with red shadow and then the ones I used. There are also a couple of extra for APPS and SOCIAL.
Post your screen once you are done, would love to see what you come up with.
thanks for the files guys! as soon as i'm done i'll post a screen shot.
Droid Ninja, i think i downloaded it from the web-based app market. if that doesn't work try pulling the apk file from your phone and push it your xoom
OK I must be special. I'm used to dealing with what Apple says I can do. I've got everything done but the widgets(games,Inet, etc) is there anywhere that steps it through? I've got dv, your icons, and mt but can't figure this out
Sweet setup btw
You guys have to just keep trying. Its hard to explain how to do it. It took,me a day to figure it out then it just clicks. I had to create my MT widgets on a blank screen ( I only use one screen, the center one). Once I created them I dragged them to the main screen. Mt is buggy, probably because it is not optimized for Honeycomb but it will work.

I have the batt and date, etc going. Its the rest I'm having issue with. Getting the games, net, part
Here is my latest, I believe this is my final one Here is the main screen:
And here is what it looks like when I click on the GAMES, MULTIMEDIA, SOCIAL, APPS or TOOLS Widgets (Widget is CircleLauncher):
I was using APS Organizer for the pop up before but it was horizontal, I really like the way CircleLauncher launches it as a circle and it is centered on the wallpaper.
I am not even using any of my other 4 screens, everything I need is right on the main screen. Once the twitter and facebook widget work, I may put those on one of the screens... who knows.

You are having a problem with DesktopVisualizer and APs Organizer? That was the easy part to me... I had a hard time with the date, time, battery and day widget (Minimalistic Text).

Did they remove folders from the Xoom? I haven't figured out a way to add a folder to the home screen using the built in functions.
ok i've been busy with work so i haven't had a chance to play around much with my homescreen. i was just trying to add the icons that you zipped for us (thanks again) but when i add them using desktop vis they come out really small. is there a way to resize them?

Your desktop resize them or they are sized badpsed on the widget size you use. All the icons are 80 x something so they are plenty big enough.
The Kid's ABC Letters (paid version) is pretty good - not great. I'd like to find a good letters tracing program so he can get better forming his letters.
It is LauncherPro Plus with blanks in the dock to make it disappear. I use LaucherPro for my phone and this Agenda is better than anything out there. As you can see it syncs tasks from Outlook 2007 (all done behind the scenes with CompanionLink). This is the only way I remember birthdates or appts.

Cool, does LP speed up the UI a bit Like it does on phones? Looks like the stock widgets are still available too, eh?

Read this whole thread, I am sure it is explained here somewhere. If not, head over to the XDA forums and there is a HUGE thread on it there (under the Screenshots thread).

Like the circle launcher too. What sixe did you make the icons, it keeps saying the icon is too large (same pack that was posted earlier in the thread)

So, I am hoping someone can help me out. I finally got the MT to work ( i had to uninstall ADW) But now, I am having trouble moving the widgets as close to the edge of the screen as I would like them. I am assuming this is a limitation of honeycomb, because the tiny little plus signs that show up while youre moving things are easily two inches away from the screen edge. But problem number two is the size text that I want has a much bigger widget box than it really needs to have, meaning I wont be able to stack anything, or put them close together because the widget around the text is so much bigger, even if I use the smallest widget possible.....

If I remember correctly, I resized them to 200 pixels wide and then they worked.

Ok I see it on most peoples Xooms now. What is the little android icon on the bottom right in the notifications area?

Thanks for pointing out the CircleLauncher...very cool. I'm still having issues getting the minimalistic text widget to show up on my xoom's desktop. I choose a widget to add (4x2 in this case), set up all the preference items and save...then nothing. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

MT is very buggy and seems to works at time and other times it doesn't. Good news is, once you get it to work it stays.
Try creating the widget on a blank desktop (not where your other widgets are) and then dragging them, once created, to your main desktop. That worked for me.
