I'm in an area where I won't be able to get wifi for a few days. I'm only using 3g. Someone earlier said to be sure your wifi is on. Will I not get it over 3g?

same here,,, no 3.1 yet (3g xoom) but it did auto update flash 10.3 last night without any problems.
date trick didn't work for me waiting sucks because i am curious about how good the movies look.
Does the USB hosting mean that I can use my flash drive (thumb drive, jump drive, whatever it's called)? I have a cable with the mini USB on one end and the other end can receive the drive. No-go or yes-go?
Thanks.

Nope - have a look at some of the other threads on this subject. The Xoom does not have enough power at the jack to drive these devices.
USB Host support is exactly that you should be able to plug in a mouse external HDD etc into the devices now. This I am sure will also come with a new dock that has a usb hub in it as we go.

If that is the case the I will definitely buy a dock.
yeah part of he reason I held off on buying the dock was lack of USB support as a host feature but ever since the the Asus Transformer showed it off I figured Moto would add it to their kernel and create some new accessories for it. I am hoping they come out soon though.

One other new feature that I have not seen mentioned anywhere that would help witht he 3.0.1 updates...There is now a check for updates button on the page that lists the last checked time.
Yeah, if XOOM sales were so dismal, obviously it shouldn't be taking this long. Then again, I never believed XOOM sales were as poor as some people (who couldn't afford it) and analysts (as they typed on their iPad) made it out to be.

The Motorola speaker dock was originally stated (by Motorola) to have 3 USB ports, and Staples is still advertising that it does. Then again, the portfolio case was also announced by Moto as coming in both durable and leather options, but the leather obviously never made it to market.
If a revised speaker dock were to come out from Moto, I would demand a swap, as the page I ordered from on their site stated USB and HDMI connectivity.
1. Micro-sd working yet? No, I am not baiting, but figure they would have the sense to fix it by now (I do not know, so am asking)
2. Unless in a country that can not get Netflix, the rental program seems a more expensive solution than a Netflix membership. I wonder if no Netflix on Tegra 2 is on purpose to force tablet users into a more expensive option?
3. Anybody try a 64gb thumbdrive yet with the semi-host function? Probably not enough juice, but does not hurt to ask. My guess is 16gb are probably the max.
4. Seems Nvidia's focus is off, since they have made zero effort in improving video codec support or any effort in a Netflix relationship.
Added:
After looking at the prices above, YES, the rental program is CRAZY overpriced and probably a reason behind no Netflix on tablets. Netflix on my Incredible works great and looks great on the iPad 2, so not seeing how this rental program makes any sense compared to Netflix- but that again probably explains why no Netflix in the first place.

the wifi users do not yet have access to the movie section on the store. that will be later...
Hopefully a Netflix hack beats it so folks can save money. The prices seem a few steps from reality of what people would pay and an impediment to growth of the program.

Naw, I think it's more an answer to "there's no way to download movies to watch when you don't have a signal!" (I checked, you can download anw atch offline). More like an answer to iPad's iTunes option. IPad has iTunes and Netflix, don't see why Android wouldn't want both, too. I still plan on using PlayOn, but nice to know there's a non-streaming option, too.
Now THAT is a great perspective, but only works IF Google and Nvidia push for the Netflix app like Qualcomm has. No choice to use Netflix suggests a narrow-minded effort in forcing people to spend $5 a pop, when they could spend a fraction with a Netflix account AND have the option of the download service when needed or wanted.
No option suggests the lack of Netflix is very intentional and not the same as Apple having iTunes and Netflix as an option.
Going to buy one off of Amazon today/tomorrow. Is it better (easier) for a non techie (like me) to ensure it comes with 3.1? In other words, is it a pain to go from 3.0 to 3.1?
It all depends on when the tablet was manufactured. It may not come with the latest version already pre installed. Just go buy it at best buy. The update will come when it comes.
Motorola XOOM users on Wi-Fi-only devices: Android 3.1 software update rolling out now in phases. Enhancements include full support for the final release of Adobe® Flash® Player 10.2, resizable widgets and more. Support for the new movie rentals service from Android Market will become available in the near future. Additional release notes available here from Google.

Just got the 3.1 update using the date gag figuring if I was going to get it I would get it just after midnight. I have a 3g Xoom that was bought around week 4 after release in New Hampshire. Have 10.3 flash and movie section in the marketplace. No invite for the Google music beta, and I haven't tested the Bluetooth keyboard or mouse interface yet so I can't speak to that just yet.

I don't know if ya'll had this problem, but the market never seemed to know if I had downloaded an app or not. It would always say "download". Now that problem seems to solved. Wonder if that was addressed or not with this 3.1 update? Now bring on the Netflix app! SD/4g would be nice too!
Got my update @ 11:58pm here in WI. I'm assuming that it was the 3.1 that we're all talking about - I got a system update message while playing Angry Birds and it did the shutdown and whatnot. Now I gotta go back and try to find that dang egg in the game.

Btw i have the wifi only model from Staples.
Plug it in and hit install :-) . I just got mine, haven't tested it but this post was painful to type. If its possible, the typing in this forum might even be slower.

I use the app specifically for this site, web browser version is still slow.

Just got the 3.1 update on my wifi only xoom... If I did not know better I would swear that the screen resolution and voice recognition have improved dramatically with this update!

I posted some findings in the accessories forum on a HD dock I opened up and I'm not entirely sure its possible to use the USB for data while charging on the dock. The USB port is seeking a signal from the dock to activate the contacts on the bottom of the tablet to charge through. If its using the data terminals and if the signal the dock provides conflicts with the data signal, which I speculate might be the case if the signal is nothing more than continuity (low resistance), then I'm not sure how they would get it to work. But I'm not an electrical/computer engineer so I can't say with certainty. I do hope I'm wrong, but I'm not going to hold my breath...
Got mine this morning. Looked at the new market but that's about it. It couldn't have come on a busier morning! Hopefully I will get some play time with it soon. 3G XOOM but used as Wi-Fi only (never had it on Verizon's network)

I got my update this morning and for the most part its a big yawn.
The only change I see is in the stock email app where the pull down menu to change accounts now has a much larger font. Which may be good considering my new glasses. Also when I select an email the selected email is high lighted in green.
In the market - no movies tab like I saw someone else said they had with wifi only model. What is this about? Can I rentmovies like Netflix or something?
I don't care about USB host on the xoom. This USB port is small and I can't plug my thumb drives into it. Why else would I want USB host for?
Yawn.
