Is it sad that I'm super excited about resizable widgets? Ha. USB host of course is awesome, and any fixes to the smoothness of the OS are great. But dang, I like customizing, and I really have been waiting for resizable widgets lol.

I wonder if this is the reason they pulled the earlier update. Is it just me or will it be weird using a big controller like that of the 360 with a screen as small as a Xoom. I hven't used a controller + device with a screen smaller than 17 inches in 10 years!

Resizable widgets should be nice, Android can look a bit of a mess sometimes due to lack of uniformity with them.
It would be good if it was possible to border them the same or similar too. I believe LP has some sort of skinning function, but I like the stock 3.0.1 experience for now...

Also not mentioned, but hopefully present in 3.1, will be FLash enhancements.Remember that Adobe was touting its latest XOOM Flash update as bringing full hardware accelerated HD Flash to the XOOM when 3.1 comes out. SO we will see if we notice any Flash improvements. That would be big for me.
While I'm obviously excited for the update, I seriously don't understand why it wouldn't enable the microSD slot. That literally makes no sense to me whatsoever.
So I won't get the update or the music b/c I have a xoom with wifi, it's only going to verizon users first.........is that correct? If so, how @#$@#$ stupid is that!

I personally wouldn't worry about that just yet. I have the Verizon version, but when the very first update rolled out, I got it, and I still hadn't contacted Verizon to activate any service, so at that time, I essentially just had a Wi-Fi XOOM.
I was given the Verizon 3g Xoom as a gift but never got it activated as I really only needed wifi but I was very impatient. So I just called Verizon to activate the 3g service at $20/month. I plan on getting the update and then immediately cancelling the service. I'll report back on the update as soon as it goes through.

Just give me the $20.00 and I will get the update for you. Shortly after they release it somebody will post it so you can manually install it. No root required.

There is 3 Xooms in my house, all Verizon models but only 2 have 3g data plans. The two with 3g data have both updated but the third has just using wifi has not.

Really? They announce USB hosting, which is probably the single thing that was keeping tablets from replacing laptops, and you aren't impressed?
yes your right but i guess not activating the sd card has left me with a bad taste. Such an easy advantage over the ipad 2 and i cannot believe they wont give it to us

Some quick things about the update. Web browsing is definitely snappier. Flash runs ALOT better. Getting no lag from flash at all. Overall system speed seems quicker as well. Not getting force closes on websites that used to force close. Widget resizing is sweet. The gmail and calendar widgets are much better now. Will post more a little later when I have more time to play with it. Going to try a few USB devices and see how host works.

Were the two that got the update using the 3g connection when it came through or were they on wifi at the time? I haven't gotten it yet, have 3g plan but connected to wifi at the moment

They both came in over 3G.

I still haven't received an update notification.I'm on a xoom attached to a 3g plan, have rebooted and everything. Is Verizon doing a gradual rollout? I should also note that when I try to look for system updates via settings, it says it last checked at 12:10pm. I there a trick to force it to look again?

I have placed Pete's update file on the root of my "SD card" with astro and rebooted hoping that it would see it there, but no luck. Update status still says last checked 11:55AM this morning.

As far as I can tell it checks every time you reboot. Each time I check it says the exact time as my last reboot.
If you want to force it to check for an update all you have to do is change the date in the time/date settings. Turn off Network Time if you have it turned on. Change the date to like next week (any day except for the current day). Then check the update status thing again and it will reflect the time you change the date. Change back to network time again and it will again check.
As I mentioned earlier in the post. I would expect a manual download of the .zip file to come shortly. Perhaps by tomorrow afternoon. I actually have the file already just not exactly sure how to flash it.

Interesting indeed. My Xooms all say that the last check is always the time of my last reboot. I just rebooted at 11pm and that's what it says for its last update check.
i just sold my 3g launch day xoom and picked up the wifi one sprint is selling. its done random checks. i got the new tablet today and its checked every couple of hours.
the old school 3G one i had did check upon every reboot.
others ive read have had success with the time forward gag as posted in this thread...

Tried playing with the time last night. I had no issues with the 3.0.1 update. I wonder whats different about this one.
yes it does or you can root and do it if you must have it now....
I wouldn't mind rooting, as I rooted my Incredible. I am a little worried about the 4G upgrade. Does anybody know how rooting will impact the 4g upgrade (if we ever get the upgrade)?
The idea I think that Motorola had was to roll out the update in waves throughout the week and that's why some of us aren't seeing anything as of yet. I have a 3g and have been checking all day to see if I could grab it with no luck so far. Motorola states on its site that the wifi only tablets will be getting the update in the next coming weeks.

Which is weird because some XDA users say they have it. Someone was kind enough to post the update for the 3g and for the WiFi only. They've even started updating kernels.
