Default Login failed on Google Maps and latitudes

I have a rooted and unlocked Milestone 720 and upon installing Google maps 6.3 when trying to use the app it says login failed and directs me to add a gmail account, which I've already done. Does anyone know how to fix this?

This worked for me (Samsung Galaxy Ace with Android 2.2):

1) Sign out of Latitude (Privacy > Sign out)
2) Clear Maps data(Settings > Applications > Maps > Manage applications > tap Maps > Clear data)
3) Reboot phone
4) Re-join Latitude from the Maps menu
