Default Music Recommendations

Getting tired of my music and looking for some new tunes. My music is pretty eclectic but in general I like hard rock, indie rock some electronic but not most and most forms of metal(not including what the douchebags nowadays are calling "hardcore"), or anything that is either very unique or displays amazing amounts of skill. But never country or hip-hop. Any suggestions? Some bands I like a lot are(in no particular order, rhyme or reason):

***EDIT***
Listed a lot more than I was going to, I figured some of you might be in the same boat as me and so along with asking for some tips on other great music I am turning this into a recommendation thread. I love every one of these artist/bands so if you need new music, check em out! I have found that Youtube is the best way to do so.
***End Edit***

Avenged Sevenfold
Dream Theater
Megadeth(older stuff)
Metallica(older stuff ONLY)
Brother Firetribe
Nightwish
Epica
Cradle of Filth
All That Remains(Only Fall of Ideals album is any good IMHO)
Arctic Monkeys
Cake
Five Finger Death Punch
Flobots(One of only 2 rap bands I can listen to without shooting my neighbor and then myself)
Franz Ferdinand
The Killers
Muse
Kaiser Chiefs
Lady Gaga(i know it's weird considering my other favs but she is amazing)
Linkin Park
System Of A Down
Opeth
WEEZER
The White Stripes
Bullet For My Valentine
Children of Bodom
Daft Punk
Da Hool
Garbage
Gorillaz(The second rap band I can listen to without killing my neighbor and then myself).

I tend to like most of what you posted so I'll post the stuff from the top of my "most played" playlist that you haven't already listed. Just a short list as I don't feel like typing out my whole library.

Hinder
Anew Revolution
Rev(elation) Theory.....early stuff was under Revelation. Then they changed to Rev.
Shaman's Harvest
Volbeat
Nonpoint
Shinedown
Smile Empty Soul
Hellyeah
Social Distortion

I like most of what is listed above. Lately I find myself listening to The National and Toxic Airborne Event a lot, both are good.

Devildriver is dope as ****. Too bad youre not into any hiphop or rap. I could twist your mind with some GOOD MUSIC. Try out some Hawkwind, Spineshank, Exodus, Ten Years After, Skindread and (hed)PE

HAHA such people would not be listening to hip hop sir! They would be listening to music with singing... and instruments... that requires actual talent. And if you are about to say Hip Hop requires any talent whatsoever, I invite you to listen to anything by T-Pain, Flo-Rida of Solja Boy.

Thats not hophop. Thats mainstream trash set for idiots. Just like lady gagoo. I listen to things like Atmosphere, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, Brotha Lynch Hung, KRS-1, Del The Funky Homosapien, Tech N9ne, MURS, ALL of the Marley boys, and so forth. Mainstream trash is exactly that. If youve never heard of The Roots...I feel bad for you. ?Love is a DOPE ass drummer.

Edit: OH! Saul Williams too. Hes a dope ass spoken word poet that puts his music to beats of all types. Dont speak on what you dont know. ;-) Music isnt your strong suit my friend. lol. I listen to everything from Jazz to metal. My first concert was Exodus and more than likely if you saw the Devildriver comment on this forum, it was me posting their video:-P

I'd say the epitome of true music would be classical music, operas, etc. Pure instruments, pure voices, pure sound. Nothing fake. It's such a pity that less and less of the populace even desire to listen to music of the fine arts anymore.

Id have to slightly disagree with you bruh. Id have to say Jazz and Blues is the epitome of true music. Not only does they capture the creative portion of music, but they also embody the entire "Emotional" system as well. Ive never felt classical like that other than the connections with family growing up. More so with Blues, you can FEEL the emotion.

I'm loving My Darkest Days lately. And Hollywood Undead. And for some reason the new song Bounce by Emphatic makes me turn the radio up too. Haven't listened to anything else by them but possibly worth exploring more.

I went to see Tech N9ne, Swollen Members, Kottonmouth Kings and (hed)PE a couple of years ago and Hollywood Undead was there. They went on after (hed)PE and before KMK. The place was full during (hed), but emptied out for Hollywood. They didnt sell shit from their merch table either. lol. Theyre terrible.

Don't bother arguing with him, he believes his musical prowess is unparalleled in this universe and that everything he doesn't like is music for idiots. Thus if you don't agree with him on music, you have no ears and no taste. He said so a few posts up.

The only thing that matters is what music you like. Don't care about what music others like and dislike as it shouldn't affect you at all. I'm sure top editors in the fashion industry can give us all a good schooling on what's fashionable and what's not but that doesn't matter if we're forced to wear things that we don't like. Same thing goes with top movie critics. I'm sure we all have our movies that would be "trash" to them. lol Perceptions of what's "good" music and what's "bad" music is all based on the individual. I personally never listen to hip hop as I don't like it but I like listening to pop music because that's what I simply enjoy.

Wasn't going to argue. It's not worth my time. Gave my opinion as asked, gave a simple observation and now will ignore. I will follow the thread tho in case anything pops up that sounds good.

Milow
VAST
Atomship
The Subways
Blue October
The Black Keys

These are mostly on the non hard rock side of the spectrum, but I find them enjoyable to listen to. I would post more, but I don't have my mp3 player handy to sort through it all.

When I had launchcast (suppose LastFM does the same) I just put all my "likes" in and it recommends things. Not always very good but sometimes it gives you some gems.

Different music appeals differently to different individuals. I would not pretend to say what moves other people.
Years ago I listened to Rachmaninoff #2 shortly after the death of a very close friend. I can not begin to describe to you how moving this listen became for me. It was almost overwhelming, but I just could not turn it off. It had a hold on me. It was like nothing I had heard before or have since. I have had near similar feelings with opera, mostly Pucini.
I have listened to the blues for decades. I grew tired of it as it became repetitive and derivative, ie Stevie Ray Vaughn is kinda just doing Albert King.
One thing that might account for an under appreciation of classical music is that so many people no longer go to concerts. It is difficult for home systems to reproduce what is heard in a concert. It is not as hard to reproduce what is hear at a rock concert.
all above IMHO and YMMV

+1 on Volbeat. also if your into Dream Theater (moreso their instrumental stuff) then you should check out some bands in the Post-Rock Genre... alot of it is off the wall and arranged very well.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Set Fire to Flames
Lights Out, Asia

also some classic rock might be up your alley such as Deep Purple, Yes, Led Zeppelin

Hey, have you listened to the 11 year old prodigy Jackie Evancho? I can't find any word that can describe her and listening to her songs gives me goosebumps. I don't generally listen to classical (I'm not that classy, I'm more of an Asian redneck). I think the fact that her CD has debuted at #2 beating Adele (another singer I simply adore.. and I saw you like her too) and Lady Gaga.

I'm sure you will like her.

I'm surprised I didn't notice this before, to the OP we have similar music tastes. Although, I must warn you that I listen to bands that most people have never heard of and I do love extremely brutal music.

Kalmah
Norther
Skyfire
Sonic Syndicate
Scar Symmetry
In Flames
Arsis
Within The Ruins
All Shall Perish
Katatonia
In Fear And Faith
Shadow
Corpus Christi
Blackguard
Amon Amarth
Arch Enemy
Conducting From The Grave
Dreamshade
Eluvietie
Obscura
Shatter Silence
Blood Stain Child
Sons Of Aurelius
Through The Eyes Of The Dead
Dark Tranquility
Wretched
Daath
Rings Of Saturn

I could probably keep going on for days, but these should suffice.

i disagree with both of you - i'd say the genre doesn't matter in the slightest; every genre has examples of doing the emotive thing brilliantly, regardless of the emotion in question (of course any one genre will mostly focus on a particular set of emotions), just that people (me included) focus on listening to certain genres more and hence find the emotion there more easily

I tend to disagree here. I would say that the general populace are very familiar with certain aspects of the fine arts these days. mainly from movies, adverts and sports. People might hear a classical piece in an advert or a movie, they like it, they want to hear more. Especially that much western pop music can be so bad now IMO. "The Three Tenors" have been extremely successful, and that was mainly because of the FIFA World Cup.

I went to see "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart a couple of years ago, I'd heard the overture somewhere, I never been to an opera before in my life, I enjoyed it. I bet many people have explored the music of Wagner, mainly because of "Ride of the Valkyries". That's been used in a few movies, plus there's the famous Warner Bros - Bugs Bunny cartoon "What's Opera Doc?", MGM - Tom & Jerry "The Cat Concerto" and Disney's "Fantasia". A few years ago I had a friend asking me about Saint-SaŽns music, because he'd heard the pop song "If I had Words" by Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keeley on the radio, which is based on Saint-SaŽns Symphony No.3 in C minor.

BTW I do use some pop music for English at school. Usually a few Michael Jackson, Carpenters, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber songs, because that's what the students know and like to sing.

It looks like our taste in Rock is fairly similar. I would suggest you look at:

Minus the Bear
Three (aka "3")
Coheed and Cambria
mewithoutyou (start with "catch for us the foxes")
Bloc Party
Foals
MGMT
The Bird and the Bee
Paramore
Clutch
The Dead Weather
The Kinison
Boys Night Out
Bear Vs. Shark
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Black Keys
Wolfmother

I don't know if You'll like any of the Metal that I do. If you're willing to try something new, you might like one of these:

Unearth
Bury Your Dead
Vektor
Textures
Mastodon
The Human Abstract
Protest the Hero
Intronaut
Misery Signals
August Burns Red
Every Time I Die
