You could feel the uncomfortableness of it for them, especially at the end but for a little bit you could feel that they enjoyed it, the solo in money and during comfortably numb they just rocked it. It's the only time I got to see all 4 playing together as I was too young the first time around and I'm grateful I did. RIP Rick Wright, huge miss.
If I'm not mistaken, I thought I saw a flying pig somewhere in the opening ceremonies.

Does any body here remember Vera Lynn. Remember how she said that we would meet again, some sunny day.

Lyrics that you think speak where the band was at the time.

I choose Vera for the wall as this is appropriate for the declining of the band and Rogers plunge into the madness his mind created for him to live out.

Been a fan of their music since the 60's.
My favourite album is, of course, DSOTM, but the early stuff was genuinely mind-blowing.

They always said that Meddle was the dress rehearsal for DSOTM !

Pink Floyd is my favorite band. I am more of a fan of the first fifteen albums after Roger Waters left I felt it became more the Gilmour band and less of Pink Floyd. All my current ringtones and notifications are currently Pink Floyd From Piper to The Final Cut. I will post more as time permits

Ok I'm back with more to post

Syd Barrett and Roger Waters initially Started the band and Syd had a deep dark secret that didn't stay secret for very long while on tour for the first album he had trouble playing through complete songs so he ended up calling in a buddy of his to "help" him out his buddy was David Gilmour. By the time the band made it to the studio for their second album A saucerful of Secrets Barret was pretty much Gone. His mental illness mixed with his drug addiction had him to far gone to do any serious music. David became a permanent member of the band. And the rest is history.

One of my favourite albums from the band I feel was really in the peak of the band and its Atom Heart Mother. I think that this is the album that really defines the band as a musical powerhouse. The Album cover was simplistic by the bands request they didn't want anything that was "labeling" so they ended up with a picture of just a cow. And the Album cover ended up as a picture of just a Cow. No Labels Not Artist Name, Nothing. The Actual Name Atom Heart Mother came from a news paper Clipping about a mother who was given a Pace Maker. While the Album and The "Song" had nothing to do with the Article it certainly had something to do with the direction the group was going.

I want this thread to be a honest thread so why do you like/dislike Pink Floyd. Please keep it RESPECTFUL. Also feel free to exchange ringtones, notifications, wallpapers, splashscreens, bootanimations, and so on.
Hate to correct a fellow Floyd fan, however, it was not Waters and and Barrett that formed Floyd, it was Mason and Waters, with Richard joining then Syd, and finally Dave when Syd decided 'he wished he was here'.

Pink Floyd were the only band that i dearly wanted to see live, alas, with Richard Wright passing away that will now never happen.

I own every Floyd album released, and have a few DVDs to boot which i never grow tired of listening to or watching although i do admit that being a bit older have started to dislike the 'experimental' stuff that they did on some of the early albums.

I would loved to have listened to how the Wall would have sounded over 3 LPs [showing my age] as opposed the released 2 although we had snippets of the 3rd album on 'The Final Cut'.

To expand on that, Barrett, Gilmour and Waters were childhood friends in Cambridge before PF existed. Gilmour had his own bands before PF, and his only association with PF was as guitar teacher to Syd and Roger. Syd was actually the last to join the original Pink Floyd, after Wright. Little known fact.*

In many ways, Gilmour was fated to be the musical leader of Pink Floyd from before the beginning. Gilmour and Wright were the truly talented musicians of the band.

My one great regret was to not see David and Rick tour to support Dave's solo album. My biggest delight was to have seen the '87 tour 4 times. I saw the '94 tour, but it simply couldn't outdo the "Momentary Lapse" energy and technology.

It's not a book; it's a Biography Channel airing. It looks like you can buy a DVD of the show here. You can also wait for it to be aired again, and snag the full-HD version off of BIOHD. Most of the HD content is either interview footage of people who you don't care about or Ken Burns style "panning and scanning" of still photographs, so the DVD isn't a great loss over the HD version.

Any of you lot read this? I urge you to get it, such a fascinating read and gives the truth about a great many issue. A must for any Floyd fan. I first read it a few years ago but just picked up the latest version on ebook, forgot how engrossing it is!

I've had the dead trees version for several years now. It's the single best trustworthy source of Pink Floyd information (at least on the human level) that I've seen to date.

When I was married, my X received the entire boxed set of Pink Floyd from a close friend for his birthday. I was able to rip the entire thing into FLAC format, so I have it.

I really enjoy PF. Animals and The Division Bell are my two favorites.

FYI the whole Pink Floyd catalog was remixed/remastered in 2006 and again in 2011. Since ripping and keeping bit-perfect copies of music CDs that you no longer own is against the law, and above all not fair to the artist, now would be an excellent time to buy the fresh new PF albums. IMO the sonic excellence is well worth buying two new copies in 5 years time. So buying one CD for each album should be a treat!

I can't believe I've never noticed this thread before.

I LOVE Pink Floyd. I'm old enough to remember when Dark Side of the Moon made its crazy, 15-something year, record-breaking stay on Billboard.

I still have all my Pink Floyd albums, as in vinyl, including Dark Side.

My favorite Pink Floyd song is Comfortably Numb, but there are many others right up near there.

Hi all!
I entered this forum for info on tablets and what do I get to see first? This thread! Thank you. Feeling st home right away :-)
Owning a Rowe AMI R88 jukebox we collect 45 RPMs and no need to tell PF is a favourite.

We attended the R. Waters concert April 9 2011 in the Felredome, Netherlands.
Big fan of Pink Project, an excellent Dutch tribute band.
Another concert is planned in two weeks: Snowy White.

My favorite Pink Floyd experience was listening to the 1986 version of the band play an extended version of that tune while the greatest mirror ball ever stopped spinning, swiveled 90° to face the audience, then opened up like a flower, revealing complex multi-colored light coming from the inside. What a sublimely beautiful thing!

IMO the sonic excellence is well worth buying two new copies in 5 years time. So buying one CD for each album should be a treat!

I'm not deleting that rip. My X and I are still extremely close, and he would have no issues stating legally that I own 50% of those CD's. The majority of every bit of the music I have is on physical CD's sitting in boxes right here in my closet (the image below doesn't even come close to how many music cd's are in this house). I don't share my rips with anyone. They are for my own personal enjoyment.

Hey. I posted a suggestion a couple of days ago, but it seems to be vaporised :-(
I suggested listening to the Norwegian band Airbag. They are very much inspired by PF. Their first album was called All rights removed, second is called Identity.
Please give them a fair try.

Search for Airbag songs like "Safe like you" or "White walls" "The bridge" "Never coming home"

That's Gilmour, no "e". Happy birthday, David Gilmour, CBE.

Nope, never seen Snowy live. All I can say was that his performance on Rick Wright's "Wet Dream" album was way better than anything I'd ever expect to come out of an ex-Thin Lizzy band member.

Hope the show is great!

Default Dark Side of Oz

I'm a big fan as well. I got introduced to the Dark Side of the Moon when I entered college in 75. I immediately bought the album for myself. I've also gone to the Laser Show at my local planeterium. Check out this YouTube clip which syncs up the album with the Wizard of Oz. Pink Floyd officially denied doing thisdon purpose. Just a happy coincidence I guess.

The longer PF tunes do have a theatrical feel to them, so it's understandable why some people would look for parallels even if none exist. My personal favorite, "Echoes", seems like it's telling the story of some sort of odyssey just by the way it sounds. (I rarely listen to the lyrics.)

"David Gilmour Live in Gdansk" was recorded with a full symphony orchestra. I let this gem neglected for years before I gave it a proper listen!
