My fav is Joanna Newsom. Certainly not for everyone. Seen her three times now and I'm always blown away with her talent (especially at such a young age). '81 on Jimmy Kimmel Live August 2010 - YouTube

I have to say i never herd of her and liked what i herd so i went ahead and loaded up some of her stuff and listened to her while i sat on the porch after dinner not bad at all she is very different and very talented.Thats why i started this Topic to be exposed to more style and bands on the Indie side of music,i pretty much have stopped listening to local radio and stream every thing i listen to on my desktop, laptop,or Droid. Thanks for sharing.

Her early stuff can be a bit more difficult. Apparently she had vocal chord surgery at some point and it made a huge difference in her singing (I'm not sure if the surgery's sole purpose was to change her voice or not though).
Ys is still my favorite album. First time I saw her she played the whole thing. Had to modify the orchestral arrangement to band instruments. Amazing stuff.

justtom, this band from Lawrence, KS sounded a bit like Dinosaur Feathers. I was good friends and a coworker with one of the guitar players. Enjoy! Drakkar Sauna: Paul's Letter to St. Job - YouTube
We saw the "last" Dispatch concert in Boston. Was pretty awesome, and chaotic at the same time. They've since reunited. All three members went their separate ways and formed their own bands. (we've seen State Radio too).
This was a great show, 100K strong attendance! Dispatch - Passerby - YouTube
Unsigned, not on an independent label, but hopefully it's not too shameless to post my own band.
My band is called Sweet Heathens, I play lead guitar and do some backing vocals. We have a few songs from our first album on our Reverbnation page. The quality isn't the best, but that's because we set up a studio in our practice space and recorded the whole thing on our own. Maybe someone here will find some pleasure in hearing our music.
