Default If you could bring a dead rock star back to life

If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

Vote here: Stairway To Heaven, Dead Rock Stars, Dead Pop Stars, 27 Club,

Yes, but wouldn't he be a zombie and more interested in eating my brains than playing the gig?

Surely it is a question of whether the dead Rock Stars would really want to come back themselves given the utter rubbish produced and labeled Music since the start of the Century?

But if I am forced to choose then I would pick Freddie Mercury as the obvious choice.

cliff burton w/ Jim Morrison, John Bonham, and richard Wright. Think of the music they would put out as a band.

there are just too many for me to choose.. my first choice has to be Bon Scott though

after that the other short lived, that died before their time:

Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jimi Hendrix
John Bonham
Frank Zappa
Jim Morrison
Ronnie Van Zant
Randy Rhaods (which didn't for some reason make the list)

all of them in no specific order! All of them had a major impact on music as it is today

Keith and/or John Entwistle.

If it were just to be 1, it would probably be Moon.

Justin Bieber is the clear choice because he rocks. Too bad he died in that plane crash with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. So very sad.

Elvis. From my limited knowledge he was a very generous & humble person. Apparently he was in awe of Tom Jones' voice & were good friends.

At what point in his career do we bring Elvis back? That goes for the other dead stars, too. Do we want the young, cool Elvis or the fat drugged soaked version of what once was a truly great performer?

I would not want to see old Elvis ever again because I remember the Clambake and King Creole Elvis. I remember Jailhouse Rock and Love Me Tender.

I loved the guy, but near the end, let's face it. He was not the Elvis some/many of us remember. So do not just wish for his return, specify a time frame so we are not let down again.

Forget Elvis. I want to bring back the entire Rat Pack for one last monster show in Las Vegas. Not the kid friendly LV we have today; I want a 1960's era Rat Pack performance in a mob run Las Vegas.

But I will settle for just Frank.

Or perhaps lets have a triple billing: Elvis opens for the Rat Pack in Las Vegas and the Rat Pack is backed up by the original Benny Goodman Orchestra with Buddy Rich on drums. THAT would be the show of the century. I would love to see BG do Sing, Sing, Sing live.

Naw, it would be just a way to kill a few hours. I can always DL this stuff on iTunes, I suppose.

I was thinking about putting together a YouTube playlist. Perhaps an hour of Elvis then fade to Buddy Rich then bring up the Benny Goodman Orchestra and finally Frank and the rest walk out. Goodman rounds out the evening.

Give me some fried banana and peanut butter samys and a few mixed drinks and it would be like I am there in person.

Do not forget the cigars for the smoke filed room.

That's a good point. But tbh, I don't think we should judge someone by what they consumed. I think many great entertainers struggled to come to terms with their own fame & everything that was suddenly coming their way. I heard he was quite generous with his wealth & quite a humble guy who despite his own huge status was himself a big fan of other entertainers.

Pity the poor performer if the tech ever becomes available. They work hard, grow old and while waiting for retirement, poof . . . they are back at it. If that happens to Elvis, he might start shooting more than televisions.

if we're saying we get to bring back the rock star to resume their career as of the day they died, the answer is Buddy Holly. period. what he was doing was revolutionary. some of the mentioned artists were washed up or severely messed up when they died.

Buddy was 22.

Not sure if you are serious, but assuming you are, he was the original bass player for Metallica. Died in a tour bus accident. Band was never the same.

I just read about the Led Zep jets (I used to see them parked at the old Butler general aviation apron at O'Hare in the '70s) and learned that Moon was rumored to have been the (unlicensed) PF on one LA to NYC flight. I'd love to hear that story!
