Default Metal? Why yes I would!

Just sitting around listening to some old school metal on Last.fm. Wondering, how many others here like to throw up the horns and headbang. Share metal stories, fav bands, albums, songs, etc.

To sum, this could be the official heavy metal android thread!

I used to rock out to some metal in high school, I even went to concerts all the time. I dont really listen to much anymore though.

There is a new music section of the forums that would suit this topic better.

HUUUUUGE! Disturbed fan here, I'm currently running a non stop marathon of albums in my car in build up to the release of the new album in August , there are others but thats to be expected as the rest of my catalogue is ecclectic to say the least.

Its metal... in a way. I also like Mudvanye, Job for a Cowboy, a little bit of Slipknot, and some others that I'm forgetting probably.

Metal all the way! \m/

I like all sorts of rock/metal, from classic rock all the way down to scandinavian melodic death metal. Providing it's awesome I'll listen to it.

Have a look at my last.fm profile for more bands, though it isnt a true reflection of my musical taste. BlackenedUK?s Music Profile ? Users at Last.fm

Edit... Wiggin.. Your list is AWESOME!!!

in soulfly's defence, their babylon made for a pretty good cover in the hands of kartikeya ("hidden" after the last night, the last track on the album)

saw them on their Conquer tour (admittedly not their best release by far) but they still have the talent to make a building go nuts.

I've been on a huge Folk Metal kick for the last half year (Korpiklaani, Subway for Sally, Agalloch, BATTLELORE, Eluvitie (sp?), etc. Also, listening to a lot of the forgotten bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene from way back when.

Metalhead my entire life. Way to long of a list of favorite metal bands. Obviously listen to music other then metal (name probably gave that away) but metal will always be #1.

Big metal head too from way back. I grew up at a time and place where metal was really big but rap was also something I got into early. My first 2 tapes were RUN-DMC and Kill 'Em All; this was like 1985 and I was in 1st grade. Metal will always be #1 for me though.

I really don't listen to much rap anymore, at least not much made after about 2000 and to be honest I'm both unfamiliar and not into some of the "newer" metal bands. Too much of it is too death metal-ish for me (which to me was a quickly passing phase for about a year in 7th grade) or too radio friendly.

I know what I like and I stick to mostly the older stuff from the 80s and early 90s. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Dio, Judas Priest, etc. are what I'm really into. That said I DO try to find newer bands or bands I might have missed and every now and then I find some I really enjoy like Demons and Wizards, Hammerfall, and some others I can't think of right now.

Here's a Japanese metal band I learned of not long ago; they've been around since the 80s and they are really talented:

I see Prada and MMI live all the time. I actually met all the dudes from Prada and theyre pretty cool. And I hung out with Levi Benton of MMI for like 30 mins after a show, he's probably the nicest dude out there.

Children of Bodom

Iced Earth

Blind Guardian

Amon Amarth

Mabool(Israeli metal band, quite good)

Aggalloch

Demons and Wizards

Whitechapel

Rose Funeral

Nightwish(pre-2006, when Tarja was still lead)

I swear to God, please dont mention Dragonforce or Job For a Cowboy, they metal? No, just shitty wannabes.

I'm a old school rocker. I like classic rock and the old metal. But with my age people think im crazy when i say i like it.

Some of my favorite metal and classic rock bands/artists would be

Dio (Everything he has ever sang in)
Sabbath (Honestly the Ozzy era is my least favorite of the Sabbath eras)
Helloween
Gamma Ray
Judas Priest
Ozzy Osbourne (mostly the solo stuff)
Iron Maiden
KISS
Alice Cooper
Scorpions
Twisted Sister
Quiet Riot
Nazareth
Lordi
The Who
UFO
Deep Purple
Ted Nugent
AC/DC
Motorhead
Grim Reaper
Edguy

The list could go on and on but i'll just stop here :P

I was in High School in the mid/late 80s.

Most of my friends/peers used to make fun of me because I was always jamming Metallica in my (cassette) Walkman. They'd walk around me sometimes mocking a head-bang/mosh pit and singing "Battery, battery, battery!"

Later in life, one of those same people came up to me and said, "Hey! Have you heard Metallica's new album- Load? It's awesome!"

By then, of course, Metallica had entered it's darkest days from which (IMO) it will never return- pussies.

Honestly there's nothing wrong with an artist wanting to try something new. Metallica converted to more of a Hard Rock feel starting with The Black Album. I, personally, enjoyed Load and Reload for the style of music they were i.e. not metal. You can shout whatever lame attempts at making you feel superior at me you want for liking those two albums, but it won't change the fact that I could care less and I still listen to those albums.

That's fine. I just can't do both. Metallica's roots are based in metal. That's what they'll always be to me. It's as if some other band made all those foofy albums.

When these guys started suing their own fans they died in my eyes...I have to say Eff 'em.

Well, technically, it was Lars who campaigned that whole Napster thing. He's probably the one member I don't like of Metallica. His drum sound is just terrible now.

You guys totally missed out on GWAR. I really like the exhaustive lists you guys have put out. Another favorite of mine is mushroomhead. Also chimaira... keep the horns up...
