no the G2 uses "Stock/Vanilla" Android, one of the nice things about the Desire ROMs is that the Front Facing Camera works perfectly still. Pure Sense is more like what the Sprint EVO uses.
it is also much smoother running and much much more ascetically pleasing than TMO's version IMHO.
edit : however if you are prefer a vanilla version CyanogenMod 6 is very good for a vanilla 2.2.1, also right now the CM Team is working on CM7 which is 2.3 and releasing nightly test versions. there was a really clean and smooth running version of Gingerbread on XDA but due to B.S. and drama the developer pulled it down
