Default Light Bleed inquiry?

OK i have a Xoom wifi and my nexus 10 should be on the way soon. I went to XDA and say the HUGE thread about light bleed on the displays. I cant tell if the people in that thread are all SUPER anal or not. I have a LCD for my PC and there is light on both side edges so maybe im just used to it and ive never noticed it on my xoom. Is there reason to be anxious about this or are they (as i said) just that anal?

My device is fine. I'm sure that there are batches of devices that might be worse than others, but I would not worry. If it is a defective unit, Google will ship a replacement.

I have some light bleed in the bottom right, bottom left and top center (all in landscape). Its not bad enough to bother me that much but I called today for an RMA. I have the problem with the rear cover flexing and making a popping noise. I've been trying to decide whether I can live with it or exchange it. I finally decided to exchange it. I just hope I don't get a new one with a bigger problem.

I still love this tablet!

I'm in the same boat in regards to the screen I also hope it isn't worse and comes quickly. Will report back when I know more.

That's why I'm not too worried about it...hopefully will hear back soon.

I'm sure some people are indeed experiencing the issue, and I wouldn't ever want to downplay anyone who is, but I haven't seen this with mine. I ordered on 11/22, when they went back on sale, if that matters.

I usually use my AMEX card for things like this, as they will double the manufacturer's warranty, up to a total of two years. Haven't had to use it, got the idea from a forum post about a fellow OGD owner who had a bad digitizer, he got it fixed after a year and a half for free due to the extended warranty.

I can't wait for the nexus 10 to be available in my nearest techshop, since I cannot order via playstore in my tiny country. I'll buy one in a week or so, when they will be available. If the bleed will be too much I will get a replacement immediately, but I hope I won't have to. Wait and see...

Yeah me too. I still can't get any real tracking info from UPS. I called Google about 30 minutes ago. That's like talking to a wall. She couldn't even tell me if it had been shipped or not even though I got an email Friday at 4am from Google saying it had. I think it will be delivered tomorrow, 7 days after ordering the replacement.

Oh well. Hopefully everything will be fine and I won't have to deal with them again.

It's saddening to see that, now seven months later, the backlight bleeding is still an issue. I just returned my 4th N10, and have been quite active on several Android forums about the issue. I'm watching batch numbers closely, and I hope I can luck out in the near future. But my hopes are somewhat dashed. You can only go through so many units before it seems like they're all equally bad.

That light bleed is from the screen not seated fully, and probably slightly bent at the point of the visible back light. It's fixable, and in a quite simple way:

Turn the device off and lay it face down on a clean, smooth surface with a thin sheet of cloth (hanky, portion of linen, etc). Gently apply some weight to the back of the device, perhaps three or four pounds, several books, etc.

Usually over night, sometimes sooner and sometimes longer such as 24 hours, the screen will flatten out and stay that way. It isn't about adhesive, etc; it's just about a bit of warping (very little when you think about it; just enough to allow a tiny but noticeable amount of bright light to be detected by your eyes).

I tried this with one of my devices. It actually made it worse. With that said, the fix itself has merit. The screen needs to be flattened more. But any kind of change to the shape of the screen, relative to however it's specifically warped, could also cause more bleed. It did, at least for me.

To be honest I had a lot of bleed at first. Way more than any laptop but I was not bothered as it was consistent in the entire screen. I did just check again after quite a while and it is much better now. This could be as it is wrapped in a case so there is constant pressure being applied to it.................
