Mine is due to be delivered Monday;
Now all I have to do is figure out what service to go to. I've read people not getting visual voicemail on month to month services like straight talk, is that accurate?
Can I get month to month service from AT&T? This is becoming a hassle, I hope the phone is that great, the more I read on jockeying service, the less excited I am.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the device itself as its as close yo flawless as any device I've ever had. The only complaint I have is every now and again Bluetooth stops working and I have to restart the device.

AT&T does have month to month prepaid, though I doubt its as good as most of the other carriers, I have never checked into it though.
You can put the nexus on a regular post paid service too if you want to.
Straight talk seems a decent service, though it being a cheaper one your likely correct about visual voicemail.
I went with t mobile because of the price, and the amount of service for that price. with other carriers you dont get as much high speed data and you pay more.
Oh and another note, my sim card for the nexus wont be in till wed. So I just cut my regular sim down. though when the new one comes in I will be using that as I had to fiddle with the cut down one a lot to get the contacts correct.

So does tmobile offer or AT&T offer post pay service without a contract since I'm bringing the phone? I looked on AT&T website and the unlimited plans say "2 yr contract required". I can't find anything like that on tmobile, but their coverage doesn't look so good in my area.
I'm on Verizon, so I don't have a SIM card right now, or at least I don't think I do.
Sorry for all the questions and thanks a lot for the help!
AT&T prepaid plans are called GoPhone. They don't seem to be much of a bargain.
I'm not wanting to go prepaid, but I'm wondering do any if the major carriers offer a contract free service, or maybe what some are calling "post pay"?
I'm buying my phone through google, so if I went with a major carrier, I'm not needing their contract discount on a phone. Can I just sign up for their service with no contract?

Sure. If you look at the menu on the left and go to individual plans, you can sign up online or at any AT&T store, but again, it's no bargain. T-Mobile would probably offer better rates as long as they have decent coverage for your area. Sprint and Verizon are out as they are CDMA networks and the N4 is a GSM device.

Got it, thanks. Their site does say 2 year contract, but if you ask, they offer plans with no contract if I'm using the phone discount. I think I made that harder than it should have been

At&t have no contract calling plans, other then the prepay gophone?
wow I did not know that very interesting. I always thought to get a normal service with att you had to have a contract.
I thought that was the way all carriers worked, if you wanted the post pay service you had to have a contract.

Loving my prepaid $70 unlimited everything plan with Tmo on my n4!
At long last, I dood it. I had been fine for awhile with my Nexus 7 and using my old Nexus One as a phone, but my Nexus One decided to suddenly power itself off (not battery) and the power button which only seemed to work with proper animal sacrifice before has decided it is just not going to bother any more. Luckily, it did so while I still had about $400 left of my tax refund.
Says it ships in 1-2 weeks. Can't wait!
However, the Nexus One was an old and faithful friend and I'm sorry to finally let go.
Ordered mine on Saturday. They said it will ship Thursday and I was like "NUUUUU I NEED IT NAOOO!" Lol, I was really just disappointed. I will be without a phone until next week sometime when I get it. Fingers are crossed that the warehouse it is coming from isn't TOO far away. I ordered from Best Buy.
I ordered my nexus 4 alongside with the google charging orb this past sunday. In the order summary it said they will ship it in 1-2 weeks but they already shipped it out a package on Tuesday (within 2 days of purchase) and its set to be delivered today (Wednesday at the end of the day).
Im pretty excited to get my phone woooh!~

Got mine wednesday after ordering Friday too. Big surprise. I was ready to wait a while too.
Mine arrived yesterday, in the middle of a snow storm. I was quite surprised. And pleased!
A little bump in the road. The day I got it, I noticed the small (very small) portion of the edge of the glass back was pulling away and would no doubt lead to cracks in the future. I called right away and got an RMA where they would have me order a replacement (they put a hold on your account until they receive the old unit, but I don't mind that) and send it out right away while you have 21 days to return the old one for free via UPS. All well and good...
...except they sent me a Link for a replacement Nexus 7 (and not even the same model I have). Wen I called back, I got someone who actualy didn't know how to handle this. He insisted it go to a specialist who could not be put on the phone and who might take 48 hours to authorize getting the right link. Worse, I got his supervisor who said the same thing.
Finally, today, I got someone who knew what they were doing and had my link in 5 minutes and was astonished at what I had been put through.
Frustrating, but the CS people on either side of the chucklehead were great. You win some you lose some. All's well that ends with me having a pristeen Nexus 4.

Awww Mann,,, Sorry ya had to go through that nonsense! I will say this, this phone is 100% worth the small headache that you just had to deal with. What is a good sign though is that you were able to get in touch with someone that got you rolling in the right direction. When a lot of us early adaptors were dealing with Googles CS early on it was a nightmare, it looks as if slowly but surely Google is getting some good people on they're CS team/staff that can get things done.
Hope your new n4 is perfect and is everything you expected it to be : )
I can't way to get mine either! Ordered yesterday but the shipping now says 2-3 weeks , so if you guys all got them within a week hopefully mine won't be much longer!
Kinda bummed there is no visual voicemail tho. That's one feature I really do like. Any way to get it? I'll be going with net 10 or tmo prepaid
Got my relplacement and it is perfect! I'm definitely loving this phone. The one I set in won't reach TX until tomorrow --found it amusing the RMA used UPS ground-- but the charge has already disappeared from my bank account. Not sure if it was them or my bank kicking off a charge that had been pending too long without an update from the merchant.

It really depends on the user, some really like skins and welcome the addition of say touchwiz or maybe sense, etc!
As for me I loveeeeeee the simple layout of stock Vanilla android, no over lay, no hang up's and heaviness because of a big heavy skin, and it just looks so darn clean cut.
Plus for the most part plain ol vanilla is usually only running on a nexus device which would equal being first for android updates

It is just stunning. It really reminds me of when I first got my Nexus One--- at the time it was so out in front of anything else out there. It was beautiful and it felt luxurious in my hand. And, yes, the clean interface where I can easily decide what I want it to look like.
Mine is currently " out for delivery" so by the end of the day hopefully ill be playing with my new toy. ... Eh phone too
One thing that I would like to know. It's happened on all of my phone ls in the past. 1 droid and 3 iPhones. The more I use It and the more time goes by it seems to get slower and slower and laggy.
Currently on my 4s I will text then it will freeze for a second, then the word pops up , and pages are laggy and won't load, camera takes a bit etc etc. I usually reboot twice a week , but ts always the same. It's a 32 gb that is pretty full will music video apps etc but I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with the memory or performance...????
Just want to make sure I keep this new n4 running as quick and efficient as possible , because when the lag and slowdown like every previous phone I've had after a few month, it's just not even fun anymore

I wouldn't consider myself a heavy user. Moderate phone calls, texts, email throughout the day. A good bit of data with news/weather feeds as well as forum access. No gaming to speak of and only the occasional media (movies or music). But, in the 4 months I've been using the N4, I don't think i've ever seen it lag, except when it's having trouble finding a network to connect to when I'm in a spotty coverage area.

All computers get a bit squirrelly when memory gets too full, whether a desktop or a smartphone. Also, the more apps you have, the greater the chance you might get some unwanted interaction. There's no absolute rule of thumb for how much of your memory to keep free (that I know of) but there's a good chance you are pushing the limits. That would be my guess.

I will add this, phone does not usually have dedicated ram memory like a computer does so it has to use the flash drive for memory not very many phones have a dedicated large memory area this phone is supposed to have 2gbs set aside just for memory.
my first android had 128mb set aside that fills up fast and if you fill the internal flash up it makes accessing the set aside more difficult (i believe though am not certain how they set it up).
Im just confesed as to how downloading alot of apps , music or video take up so much space when technically that is in the HD , or storage and is not in use when the app/game is closed? 2 GB of Memory on a Phone I thought would have PLENTY of RAM to manage the OS , software and apps..
Ordered mine (16gb) on Thursday and got a shipping notice yesterday!!!
pumped!!
Yep, Same here! Ordered mine Tuesday night, got it yesterday.. Love this phone.. My first droid in years and only my second ever, ( first one Was a captivate, that I traded back with in the 30 day trial for an Iphone ) But this phone is awesome, and will not be going anywhere anytime soon!

Man, this little jewel is responsive!
Ahhh Good Memories I have with the nexus one...Never forget when I got that box delivered...I was like a kid Christmas morning in my PJ's...lol
Yea the n4 is the best of what Google has to offer in the software dept, stock is just so amazingly clean...luv ittttttt!!!
So now that I should have money quite soon I went through the motions of ordering without spending any money and almost crapped my pants at the extra $45 they're charging me for tax and shipping! That's insane! How are they charging me that much tax?? I thought tax was only applicable to you if there is a physical manifestation of the purchase...I dunno...thing....place?...in your state! Like if I ordered a shirt from Target, they'd charge me tax because there are actual Target stores in my state...but there sure as heck ain't a Google store anywhere. So how can they still charge me so much??

Thank your state lawmakers for that. States collect a "use" tax on items that are sold on the internet but shipped to you from out-of-state. Doesn't sound fair does it?

I love the fact that there is a sticky for these kinds of posts!
I ordered my Nexus last night, its due to ship "before March 22nd". I can't wait! I'll be going with the $30 prepay plan from T-mobile. [100 minutes, unlimited talk & text]. I was pleasantly surprised to see the micro sim activation kit from T-mobile was FREE with Free overnight shipping T-mobile's coverage is iffy at my house, but I live out in the boonies, so its like that with every carrier. I'm on wifi rather than data at home anyways, so no big deal. The coverage cannot be any worse than Virgin Mobile, which is what I have currently.
I could say more, but I'd just be rambling aimlessly, so....yeah.

That's not rambling...Thats called sharing your experience & of course your excitement for your new nexus 4! Welcome to our humble famm
Just caught your Virgin Mobile comment...We of course know its all location sensitive, but my sister had Virgin Mobile for about an hour...lol! But seriously she couldn't get a decent signal in NYC, right there is a bad sign in such a large city! Anyway..She like you graduated to T-mo and couldn't be happier...Hope your T-mo experience is a good one

Yep, I'm starting the gradual leaving of verizon. Going to T-Mobile 30 dollar plan, removing the texting plan and the data plans on my verizon account and eating the minutes until contracts are over and will still come out up 30 dollars a month. Win.
