Yeah it couldn't have been smoother for me. Took about 10 secs. to order it, no error messages at all. I feel bad for the people that are having trouble though.
Started at 8:30 trying to get it, 3 browser windows open on 2 computers and could never get an order to go through. Very frustrating! Not sure how long I'm willing to wait for them to come back in stock.

I have a friend within the organization. They are hyper focused on doing the best job they can this time around. Rumor has it supply is pretty good so time will tell.
Who could possibly estimate demand? Even Apple (no fanboy here) finds it challenging to estimate the initial rush of orders.
I tried the very second it was in stock (was refreshing the page for 15 min before it was available) and got nothing but error messages. tried for a half hour... the closest i got was to the point where all the information was ready to be sent, clicked buy, sat for 5 min holding my breath, switched to a different tab, Chrome froze and force closed on me...
I hate you google... why couldn't you set up pre-orders like the Nexus 7!?!?

Yeah doesn't look like it went through for me. It gave me an error from Google Wallet after getting every other kind of error for like half an hour. Would've been nice if it had gone on sale when they said it would as well and I'd have had more time to try to order one.
Edit: Looks like it went through to google wallet for the 8gb version. Hopefully it ships today.

I didn't get a confirmation email though, even though I have an order number through google wallet and google wallet's page says they sent a confirmation email. Maybe when they ship it out they'll send an email.

I got my confirmation email around 30 minutes after I placed the order. Usually play store emails are instantaneous so I'd guess yours is just hung up in a queue somewhere.

i kinda expected it, but still i got irritated
i dicked around for 40 minutes... refreshing the page until it showed in stock... i was able to add it to my cart like 10 times, and it would error out when clicking proceed..
at one point i was able to take it up to revise order and when i click buy, it error out on me again.
quite a bit of a PITA.... really not cool

If i keep hitting refresh is it possible one might come up or is it completely sold out in the uk
That is basically what I did, I was able to buy a 16GB N4 3 hrs. after they went on sale by refreshing and trying to put it in cart and buy. I had the same problems as many of you initially, I'd get it in the cart but then get errors. Then it went to "Notify Me" status which made people think they were already sold out. But occasionally I would Refresh and the button changed to the Buy button.
I basically kept trying that until it worked. Got the Pending listing in Wallet and also a confirmation email. They also charged me the full amount on my CC. Just keep trying, and if your browser supports it use something that auto-refreshes the page and alerts you if there is a change.
edit: keep in mind I'm in the US, it might be different for you in the UK.
What browser auto alerts you and how do you add thus setting
If you're using Google Chrome there is an extension called Page Monitor that monitors a page and updates you if there is any change. You can also set how often it checks the page and set it to make a noise when it changes.

Hey Banished Angel major props to you man! I wasn't even paying attention at 8:30 this morning when my Page Monitor sounded off. I rushed to my computer and within about 10 secs had my N4 16GB ordered. Not a single error during check out.
Sounds like they learned some lessons from the UK sales problems.
I was on the site from minute one and had multiple failures through the checkout process.
Wound up with nothing, although I suspect I would have been able to pickup an 8gb if I'd been interested in doing so.
There's a suggestion on Google+ that the store will be restocked within 3 days once they've sorted out the initial rush. Whether that's US only, global or regional isn't clear at this point - so keep watching the skies..
16GB UK here. Accidentally ordered two. Should have kept it and put it on ebay but I was feeling generous and called Google who nicely cancelled it and confirmed my order went through fine. Still says pending however.....But I called the bank who also confirmed it!

I think it's more like people are in a hurry and weren't paying attention at checkout in a rush to complete the transaction. When I was placing my order, I got a few errors like everyone else and when I finally got to my cart, there were 2 in my basket. Had I clicked place order, I would have accidentally ordered two.
I tried to order around 11:45 with no luck. I can't believe Google made so many of its most loyal fans stay up until 3 in the morning(EST), only to find out that the site wasn't going live until noon. Then they open it early leaving many people behind.
Also, I never received the notification email from Google stating that the phone was available. Frankly I'm pissed.

I'm betting they'll send those emails once the initial demand dies down so regular joes can log on and buy one without the craziness.
