I went with the smaller 8gb version due to price. I also was forced due to selling out.
Now I am thinking of ways to make sure I won't be running out of space.
Here are my current thoughts, but please give me any ideas you have.
1) Google Play Music. I uploaded my full music library. I will keep 1-2gb on the device for when I am out of my service area and need tunes.
2) Google Drive. Dump all pictures and videos to my Google Drive. Delete them off to save space when needed.
3) USB OTG. I ordered a USB on the go cable and plan on having a 8gb Flash drive full of my movies. I will keep a few on the device itself, but for those long road trips that will give me extra space and movies. I haven't actually done this before, so this is in theory. This may also require root (which is why most of us bought a Nexus device anyways).
Let me know if you guys have any other suggestions.

Why not get a bigger flash drive? Lol 8gb is so small comparatively and if that were the case you may as well have waited an extra day or two for the 16gb phone. The rest sounds good
Yes I would say that they are sound ideas you have there, I was so tempted to get the 8GB version when the 16 sold out this morning but couldn't bring myself to press the buy button, for me the 16GB is just the right size, my current phone card has 8 GB on it already.
Oh and I wasnt going to buy one just so I could stick it on Ebay, that pisses me right off when folks genuinely want the phone and I wish people wouldn't bid on them, wouldn't you rather say look here is my new phone, I got it on the play store for only £279..or hey look I got bent over on Ebay and paid £500
Just hang in there folks, they will be back in stock, this is Googles master plan to make more news for the entire nexus range,
I use Dropbox and enable Camera Uploads. When I come home at the end of each day, Dropbox would sync with camera gallery. Whenever I need more space on my phone, I'll just delete the photos/videos taken before "today". This saves lots of space in the phone, especially if you shoot lots of videos.

I think Google+ Instant Upload allows unlimited uploads and they're set to private until you choose to share them. Otherwise I'd use dropbox or google drive.
For MUSIC: install google play on your PC. Upload all of your songs, edit them, etc., and you will have access to these songs from ANY device you have your Google account connected to.
For PICTURES: get intimate with Instant Upload. It is your friend and hosts all of your pictures (not sure if there is a limit, but i have ~4,000 pics on it and haven't gotten a warning or anything.) These, also, will be accessible from ANY device connected to your Google account. Downside, any photo bigger than 2048 px on height or width will be scaled down to that size. No biggie, if you need big picture files, keep them on your comp/ Cloud.
For DOCS/SPREADSHEETS/MISCFILES/OTHER: Google Drive. Cheapest cloud service available other than SkyDrive from Microsoft. $4.99/month = $60/year gets you 100 gigabytes of storage space.
ALSO: keep your big files on your computer. Any movies, big files, etc. will obviously take up a lot of space so keep these on your computer.
If you're willing to go Google, you'd be proud at the options you have available to you! :-) I recently abandoned the SD card mindset and adopted a more cloud-driven mindset and let me just say living life wireless is SO WORTH IT!
I myself got a 16GB version, but that's just because I like a little wiggle room! Not to say that with the 8GB version you won't, but you'll definitely have less.
Take pics, have them uploaded to Instant - then delete off device, stream music anywhere, have cloud-based storage. It's a great thing!

You've got me thinking. Maybe the fact that I wasn't able to order a Nexus 4 today was a good thing. I was pretty certain to go for the 16GB model. But that is primarily because I have a good amount of podcasts, including video podcasts I download. I don't like to have to think about storage while I'm doing that. But then, data limits, heh.
Google Music is certainly a solution I like, and use to a degree even now. I am also thinking this: I have an old 8GB iPod laying around. I can just as easily put my podcasts on it. I mean. it's not going anywhere. Sure, it's a little inconvenient to carry around 2 devices, but is it worth the $50 in savings? May well be, may well be.

I wouldn't go that route man. What's $50? Dinner for 2 at a decent place? For that you get DOUBLE your storage capacity for the life of the phone. I mean if you burn through phones every 6 mo. then ok but I'll be using mine probably until it dies or I lose it or something.

I definitely see your reasoning, though. That's the reason I'm going back and forth. Yeah, $50 is not that much in the grand scheme of things, and given the fact that my car's Sync system is connected to my phone, it would be a pain to switch back and forth between devices. But on the other hand, it IS 50 bucks. Haha.

Yeah see I'm more the type were I geek out on something until I buy it and then it's on to the next thing. Right now just happens to be a phone. A few years ago I did the same thing when I bought my N1 but once I had it I was on to something else and I'm only replacing it b/c the power button took a dump and won't power on the device anymore. Gonna (sniff sniff) miss my (sniff) trackball

I'm hoping to keep this for the longrun but I'm hoping to also use a Note 2 if they put out the 64GB one overseas. It'll be nice to be able to play with the newest OS all the time.
Does anyone know if the Nexus S got Jelly Bean 4.1 or 4.2? I might have to swing by the forum over there to see how long Google supports these things.

It'd be pretty cool to have an expanded battery case that works through plugging into the micro-usb and has 128GB of flash storage in it that you can access and also has induction charging. Pipe dream though.
