Default Mute Ringer From Lock Screen

Alright, first dumb N4 question (not the last I'm sure).

I don't know if this is a JB question, or if it's been like this a while and I just didn't know it. I've been running with me N1 on 2.3.6 for a while and haven't touch ICS or JB until now.

Anyway, On the N1 lock screen there were two options, Unlock the phone, and Mute the sounds.

I don't see that option available on the new lock screen and I was wondering if I'm missing something, or if there is just no way to do it.

As a few others have mentioned regarding the lock screen widgets, they have added quite a lot to the lock screen, but taking away this very simple and useful option quite odd.

Anyone figured this out?

You can mute (adjust) the volume on the lock screen with the actual volume rockers.

Not quite the name thing. The old way kept your volume setting and just turned it off. Plus it was one swipe and it was a visual indicator on the screen to let you know it was muted.

I'll have to check some of the alternative lock screen apps. Anyone got a recommendation?

I don't think anything could be easier or or more effective than Rocco212's suggestion.

There's a volume rocker on the side of the N4. If one needs to mute the sounds before entering the church, the bar, and then the corporate meeting, what could be easier than just squeezing the (-) toggle for a second?

One doesn't even need to unlock the display to toggle the widget you're seeking.

Check out Power Toggles. They have a toggle to mute sound. And if you have it up in the status bar, you can unlock, bring down the status bar, and hit the toggle real quick.

That is what I use. Although I really miss the silent switch on my iPhone :/

HD Widgets has lock screen functionality for things like ring/vibrate/silent, led flashlight, battery widget etc...

I'll check out Power Toggles. I may have tried that in the past, I know I had one that allowed you to put multiple swipe switches on the lock screen (phone, camera, etc).

Update: It was Widget Locker Lockscreen that I used in the past. I'll give that another try.

I was a long time Palm Treo user so I too was really attached to the physical mute switch.

Holding the volume rocker will have to do for now. I really am more looking for the visual indicator. The small vibrate icon at the top is a bit small (especially if I've already taken off my glasses at night). I'll get used to it, the jump from GB to JB is a big one. I like most of the changes, and will I'm sure grow to like the other changes.

Here is a picture of my N1 lock screen to show an example of what I'm talking about:

Here is the basic Widget Locker on the N4. I'd used it in the past but didn't want the clutter. Looks like the app has been updated substantially since I bought it two years ago.

The icon on the left is screen brightness, and the right is mute.
