Default New 3-D render!

Pretty sweet!

Nexus 5 Render Delivers Virtual Hands On

Here's some more news.

http://www.gsmarena.com/casemaker_spigen_hints_october_31_as_the_nexus_5_l aunch_date-news-6804.php

Here's the case that's on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/SPIGEN-Google-Protective-Hybrid-Protection/dp/B00EV8Y684/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1379342987&sr=8-8&keywords=nexus+5+cases+SPIGEN

One person says it fits great. Then another person asked if it was a demo unit. They go on to say it's a "Vapor Edition Nexus 5". What is Vapor edition?

It will be interesting how it stacks up to the galaxy note 3... I went with the HTC Rezound and it still is a good phone almost two years later, but sure hate the software support. I will buy my next phone outright so it will probably be the Nexus 5.

Looks like the button arrangement might be the same as the Gnex, not sure how the N4 was laid out. The 2nd vid shows him pressing power at the upper right side of the phone. So goodbye back buttons ala LG G2. Which I'd consider a positive. I have the G2 and although I do think I'll get used to them eventually, I'd prefer the standard volume/power button arrangement. If it ain't broke...

How that the Padfone Infinity 2 has been revealed, I am in quite a bind. Specs on GSM arena show it will work on AT&T HSPA and refarmed T-Mobile HSPA. No North American LTE though. According to reports, it takes better pictures than the S4 & HTC One. Decisions, decisions.

I accidentally hit the volume button on my GNex all the time. I never really need to hit them once I get them set to the right spot though, so back buttons sound great.

As far as the power button I hit that accidentally sometimes too whether it is on the side like my Gnex or on top like my Droid X. Not sure how I'd feel about it on the back, but if the phone did the tap on screen thing like the G2 or the flip over/out of pocket thing like the X it wouldn't matter much.

Yeah I use that knock on feature all the time. I figured it'd be gimmicky and I'd get sick of it like facial recognition but no, I love it. I don't love the back buttons only because I've occasionally hit one of the volume buttons or power with my left index finger while texting in landscape mode. If they'd make an option to disable back buttons while screen on and while in landscape mode, it'd be fine.

Thumbs up

Aww Yisssss!!!! I've been waiting for the Nexus 5 thread to arrive. Having been there for the mighty Droid Incredible & Galaxy Nexus threads, I can't wait to be a part of the Nexus 5 thread. I'm definitely getting this phone when it comes out, even if it means ditching my Verizon unlimited plan.

I'm also glad to be a part of this thread and might post from time to time. I may not post often, but I'm always here watching.

Cheers,

Aaron

I wasn't there for the Incredible thread, but the GNex thread was pretty epic > 88K posts.

Seeing as we now know practically everything about the Nexus 5 I don't think this thread will reach such epic proportions Oh, and there's no HanSolo to keep it going, or Steven and his mysterious source.

Yep, and quite a few of us in that thread were/are Verizon customers and as it appears the N5 will be on all the major carriers except Verizon, only those willing to ditch unlimited data and switch carriers are here from VZW or just lurking and praying it actually does get released on VZW, however unlikely.

Apparently the nexus 5 has been spotted in a GFX bench result. I have no idea how hard it is to fake something like that

Nexus 5 apparently spotted in GFX Bench with Snapdragon 800 and Full HD display

"Listed as the Google Nexus 5, the device has a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with Adreno 330 GPU and a Full HD display, according to GFX Bench – the listed resolution is actually at 1794 x 1080 instead of 1920 x 1080, with the difference most likely accounting for the on-screen menu buttons"

Here is the link to a search for nexus 5. note the nexus 5 and the gnex. If these numbers are accurate it crushes the gnex
http://gfxbench.com/result.jsp?benchmark=gfx27&data-source=1&version=all&test=478&text-filter=nexus+5&order=median&os-Android=true&os-iPhone_OS=true&os-Windows_8=true&os-Windows_Phone=true&os-Windows_RT=true&arch-ARM=true&arch-MIPS=true&arch-x86=true&base=device

I originally thought the S stood for Sprint as well, and it would certainly help settle my update concern if they're getting they're own model. Maybe the C stands for carrier unbranded?

What's phones that? I haven't seen any company who's marketing budget is higher than their product development budget announce a new phone

* Don't like the iPhone at all, but must admit, the finger print thing looks pretty cool, and it would appear it actually works well.

Too bad it's not new. Motorola Atrix had it two years ago, though it was a failure.

Nothing official as of today, but past history point to it being officially unveiled sometime in October with an early to mid November release.

So far that has been the case.

Haven't been this excited of a release of a phone ever. I really hope Google make a 32gb version or higher though. I use a 16gb n4 for work which is fine, but as my main phone it wouldn't be enough unfortunately

Do you keep your entire music library on your phone? I can't imagine needing a 32GB phone. Even with Titanium files and a Nandroid or two I have plenty of room with a 16GB phone. Then again I use streaming services and TuneSync so I don't have to store my whole music collection on my phone.

I keep my library on the phone, but the nice thing about listening to old rock is the library doesn't keep growing

If the N5 is partly based off the LG G2 which works on all carriers where is the sense in this possibly not working on Verizon? Would Verizon tell a manufacture to not make it compatible with their network?

Unlikely, but since the Nexus line is Google's flagship, they want control over it like apple has over the iPhone line. Verizon won't let them as we found out with the Galaxy Nexus (Nexus 3). Google more or less has given up as far as dealing with Verizon, so it told LG to intentionally not make it compatible. As if the gnex fiasco wasn't bad enough, Verizon is at it again with the second generation nexus 7 tablet.

I don't keep all of my music library on my phone (galaxy note), but i'm about 2gb away of filling up my 16gb sd card. I know I could use dropbox and all the other cloud services and i do use them, but for things like music and photos i like to have the files on the phone. There's been plenty of times where I'm not in coverage to receive data connection or access to wifi.

I think 32gb is the sweet spot if there's no sd card slot on the phone. But that's just my imo. I know some people who get on fine with their 8gb Nexus 4's :-O

You are like me, I also like to keep stuff on my phone. I think for me that 16gb will be enough since I will use the phone storage pretty much only phone stuff. Even if I have lost of data I don't always like using the could and I have over 60gb of music I want to keep.
You should get a OTG cable so you can use a usb stick and store all your music and more. I only hope that the N5 will not have the same "problem as the N4 (I think) where you need to have it plugged in to a power source. In that case get a Y OTG cable. Connect to you phone, connect the usb stick and a small portable usb power will do the trick.

Yeah, I have an otg cable. They're good for what they are, but not really practical in most cases. Not great to have one connected in your pocket listening to music, but on a plane or something i can see why they'd be good.

Just remember, you don't get the full 16gb. After the OS has taken what it needs, you have about 13gb. That was on the nexus 4. Might be more, might be less on the nexus 5 though. So bare that in mind, if you didn't already know!

A new set of rumors, speculating on features. One item of interest is the corning gorilla glass 3, and a 2700mah battery

The FCC filing had the battery size listed on it.

I'd be surprised if they deviated from that 2,300 listing

It also concerns me that site didn't source anything. I'm a little hesitant believing rumors from non-tech websites that don't cite a source.

Damn I can't wait for it to be official. The suspense is starting to be to much. Just hope the price wont be to high.

lol they called the nexus 4 a mid range device

but yea highly suspect article. just the way they put info down. From the research I did so far:

these observations are based on FCC or video/photo leaks so they could still change but semi confirmed specs are:

  • Case thats slightly smaller then the N4 with no SD card slot or removable battery.
  • The pre-release case (read could easily change) seems to have a horizontal nexus logo and is made from some matte black plastic not glass.
  • radio bands covering AT&T, TMo and Sprint.
  • 1080p 4.95" screen
  • Qualcom 800 CPU
  • Adreno 330
  • 2300 mAH battery
  • Android 4.4

Non leaked/Speculation specs

  • just a personal observation on the CPU: I would not be surprised if they used a lower binned 800 as opposed to the higher quality one used in the G2. There are 2 grades/Clock speeds of this CPU as far as iv read on qualcoms site.
  • Ram: heard everything from 2-3GB... my guess is 2GB based on what the LG G2 has.
  • Memory: yea no clue here, people are all over the place from 8GB-64GB. My guess is a 16GB and 32 GB version like the Moto X, although I have this sneaky suspicion in the back of my head they could do the 8GB and 16 GB version again.
  • Camera: while pics of the cam were leaked in the FCC pics and they LOOK like the G2 13MP OIS cam, its just speculation as to what its real specs are.
  • Price: nobody has a clue, people hope for the $300-$350 but its pretty likely that we could get a price increase seeing how they did that with the new N7.
  • Announced/Released: based on past Nexus phone releases the N5 will probably be announced sometime in October and released in November.

If I see a site deviate from those specs they lose a little credibility in my eyes unless they can back up their info with a decent source.

I have heard the same thing about 2 version of the snapdragon 800 but can't find info comparing them. Can you post a link about that? Thanks

Very interesting to see the difference. If the benchmark we saw are true then I would presume they use the 2.3ghz. But being the nexus I still would not be surprised they used the 2.2ghz and with the pure google/android OS they would be able to get that speed.

Do you think this could be changed via over clock software/with custom kernel of this is hardware only.
