SMS Backup and Restore didn't seem to work for me. It seemed to restore SMS but Hangouts didn't pick them up, any help appreciated.

How about installing Hangouts v2 on old phone, migrate SMS to it and then backup data with Titanium and restore on N5?

Seems like a lot of work, I know but that should do the trick.

Unfortunately I have reset my old phone ready for the sale of it tonight.

I still have the backup file from the standard SMS app though.

Sorry I havent been able to reply. The sms backup did work for me. But I had to change the default sms app i can restored my messages, say to an third party sms app, then change it back to Hangouts. It suddenly had all my texts in it.
