Google Play credit on Nexus 7

Customers who purchase a Nexus 7 may be eligible to receive a $25 Google Play credit. This is our gift to you when you have, or add, a valid form of payment to your Google Wallet account.
If you receive the credit, it will be ready to use right away. Just open the Google Play Store app on your Nexus 7 or visit play.google.com, and start shopping - remember to select Google Play balance when you’re checking out. If you have credit remaining, you can use it on your next Google Play purchase.
Using your Google Play credit
  1. Select the content* (album, app, book, magazine, movie, song or TV show) you want to purchase. *Note that the $25 credit may not be used to buy a subscription or in the Devices section of play.google.com toward the purchase of any devices or on any device accessories.
  2. On the checkout screen, select Google Play balance as your payment method in the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Finish (on the web) or tap Accept & buy (on your device) to complete your purchase.
google play help secton for the credit limitations and such

For me I think the first thing I will do is get ROM Manager and after I get my nexus tablet I will get Swift Key 3 for tablet with it. I would like to have some connivance when I change roms. I already got Tapatalk, Juice Defender Ultimate and Titanium Backup Ultimate. There may come some other just awesome apps that are must have and I think that is the time that I will use the rest of it!!!

By the way Tapatalk 2 (the current version) is very very useful I recommend it highly.

I will probably blow it all in one go, with season 2 of The Walking Dead ;p
If I don't, it will just be on an assortment of cheap apps:
SwiftKey 3, Adobe Photoshop Touch, Redditmag+, and possibly Minecraft

For you TT freeloaders they have TT 2.2 beta on their site for download. It is an open download so at least you would be using a legit version.

Goto Official Apps, TT for Android and you ahould see the thread there.

I already bought Dead Trigger on my Thunderbolt through the play store, but after the purchase I cancelled the download since I didnt feel like downloading 100mb to my TB. Anyway, apparently Dead Trigger is rigged with in-app purchases, ugh. Probably will have to be careful to avoid those, or else that 0.99 price isn't as appealing. =\

Anyway, I will probably take a long time in spending my $25 Play Store credit. Virtually all the apps I intend to use on my Nexus 7, I have already bought or they were free, so I will save it for cool and useful apps in the future.

Is this credit supposed to show up right away? I already ordered mine right when it was announced, and I don't see the option for "Google Play credit".

This forum is for sharing information and seeking help. Questions are a good thing and answers are wonderful. Rudeness however, is not acceptable. There is no need for it and it is in fact against the rules.

It is very easy to misunderstand someone in a world where they are represented in black and white. Their tone, facial expressions and entire attitude can be interpreted incorrectly. While assuming someone already knows something isn't always that helpful, neither is telling them that they are the worst type of person.

Let's keep things polite and civil, thanks.

BTW, if you are reading this and don't know what in the world is going on, be happy. It wasn't directed at you.

Question

Is the $25 dollar credit only applicable if you order direct from google? Because Staples also sells this device, and they mention the $25 credit. It seems that they copied it the description from Google because it says "From Google" and am not sure if I am just reading to deeply into the description.

"Buy the new tablet from Google and get $25 credit to spend on Google Play, as well as some great free content, including your own copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon."
Nexus 7 | Staples®

So I am wondering if this a order from Google specific thing? I am considering canceling my order from google and ordering from staples since they have an estimated delivery time, but this will be based on the $25 credit.

Thanks

This is what I was wondering. Maybe calling the nexus number might help. It's just that this sounds like more of a promo from Google, and not from a third party. Though I do believe that I saw someone say that Gamestop confirmed the credit was included...

Since this thing is supposedly set-up to game pretty well, I'm considering getting a higher end game or two. Going to wait and see if anything reviews relatively well first though. Not liking the idea of the IAP on Dead Trigger so I'll avoid that one.

Wish the Play Store had a better selection of books though. I'd really love to have a digital copy of Desert Solitaire. Might pick-up the complete Hitchhiker's Guide though. Definitely can't bring myself to do the magazines and I prefer to buy and rip my own movies so I have a hard copy to go back to if need be. (Which will then allow me to move the largest items on and off at whim.)

At first, I was wondering about the Photoshop Touch idea since this tablet isn't a productivity device but then I realized I could then also load it onto my TF after that. PST would be more suitable there.

Hmm, lots of choices.

I already have such a large library of apps from both Play & Amazon's FAOTD that I will probably consume some media with my $50 ($25 each for two devices).

I called them and the credit will only be available for orders from Google. If staples is offering a $25 credit it is independent of Google's.

I think I'm going to get "A Game of Thrones" from Play Books for starters.
Maybe I'll fill in some more of my Larry Niven collection.

I like how my books are synced between my devices and I'm dying for some new reading material.
I don't know about movies and such from Google, we'll have to see. I DO plan on linking this thing back to my home media server somehow.

Thank you!
I was reading a review here and noticed an active forum community so I joined up.
I'm active on a few other Android forums as well.

Between the hardware and the credit they are giving us this really seems like a sweet deal.

If they run just as well as they do on my Prime you'll be plenty impressed.

Nexus 7 | Staples®

So I am wondering if this a order from Google specific thing? I am considering canceling my order from google and ordering from staples since they have an estimated delivery time, but this will be based on the $25 credit.

Thanks

I talked to them today, and they asked a supervisor. It depends on what kind of deal they signed with Google when the third party got the license to sell the device. I know Gamestop gives you the $25 credit you would have got through buying it with Google. If this is like any other Gamestop tablet, it will come with 5 games on it already as well(thats an extra $15+ in content).

Does everyone who pre-ordered get this $25 credit, or is it only for people in the US or something like that?

People in Europe get £15 or about $23 if you convert it.

Yes, with some caveats. Not all apps are supported on all platforms and Android versions. It's been long enough for me since I activated my last device so I can't remember if it just did it or it asked me beforehand if I wanted to "restore" those items onto the new device.

I already buy any apps that I may need for my phone, so I will probably put a good deal towards movie rentals, although I have also thought about magazine subscriptions, but they are becoming obsolete with all of the information found on the internet for free these days.

Totally agree on magazines. By the time they are printed and mailed the information is outdated. It will be interesting to see how fresh the content is in online magazine subscriptions.

I pretty much spent it already lol on books
Bought the Hunger Games Trilogy (Not the box set but individually, cheaper that way for some reason)
and Ready Player One

edit: read them all already as well. Must say. Loved all 4 books.

Those thinking about using it towards subscriptions might want to check the terms of the credit. I think those are out along with using it in the device category. I suspect it is because they expect subscriptions to be recurring charges against a card that you can "cancel" at any time but if you don't, they maybe re-up yours until you do. No idea though as I don't pay for magazines. A) As stated, the info is dated by the time it is put together and sent out. B) Most of the info in magazines tends to feel recycled.

I kind of skimmed through this thread, so if this was said already, apologies.

The $25 credit should be available on all Nexus 7s regardless of were it was purchased.

I've had mine for about 2 hours now. Got it from Office Depot. It is a 16GB model.

Anyway, I brought it home, ripped it open, and after setting it up, I got a confirmation screen at the end of setup (as well as an email) showing that $25 credit had been applied to my account as well as the Transformers movie. Not only that, but 5 magazines, 5 books and (i think) about 20 Play Music tracks were added to my account. Oh, and $10 credit in Google Wallet for activating. Wonder if I can tie that into the Play Store, giving me an effective free $35 to spend there? Hmm.....

As to what I'm getting, Walking Dead Season 2 is very tempting! I think I'm gonna hold off for a bit, though. I've seen some Tegra games I like and may get the tablet versions of some games already on my phone.

EDIT: FYI, The $25.00 balance can be used for purchases on Google Play through June 30, 2013. (from the confirmation email)

I hate to spend so much at once but I think I'll be getting Final Fantasy III.

I used to love playing the FF games and since Google is paying for it .. why not.

No wallet or music in the UK but I like the sound of the books. Were you given a choice?

There may come some other just awesome apps that are must have and I think that is the time that I will use the rest of it!!!

By the way Tapatalk 2 (the current version) is very very useful I recommend it highly.
Does Juice Defender work well?

Wrong.. got mine at Gamestop walk-in and when I logged into my account after turning it on it credited me the $25. Got FF3, Dead Trigger and FPse with it

I'm not sure about the $10 portion, but the $25 portion is not eligible for use on devices
