Default Best SMS -> Tablet app?

So who has used an SMS to Tablet app?

What's the best one?

The only thing that I need my phone for when I'm at home is for SMS. Everything else, I can do via my tablet. So rather than keep my phone next to me at home, I'd rather toss it in my office and only have my tablet nearby.

I'm looking for an app that will let me SMS from my tablet, but preferably route it through the phone so that outgoing messages still show up in my Messaging app.

I use Google Voice as well, but that's for all of my work contacts.

I have my cell phone number for personal contacts, and so I get communications on that number and want to be able to check it on my tablet.

I'm trying out DeskSMS from Koush.

I downloaded Tablet Talk. This is my first tablet and I read good reviews on it, so far no issues with it. It does what it is supposed to and you can have it work over WiFi or Bluetooth. I cant think of stuff to spend that 25 credit in Google play on so I just purchased that, it was only 2.99.

You should tell that to my Jelly Bean Galaxy Nexus and Jelly Bean Nexus 7, which both appear to be playing nicely

I tried that after i read what you said, and i couldn't get the darn app to work >.> bluetooth wouldn't work, and over wifi, i sent the text, but the phone failed to send it while the app was on. Closed the app, then the sms appeared in my default messenger. Got a refund for now, might try it again once i figure it out.

I think the "route" it part is not going to be possible. The reason behind that is your messaging app is stand alone (unless you are using some special messaging app that is 100% cloud based and when you read your texts you are not looking at texts store on your phone but texts stored on a server). The closest thing I can think of is Google Voice (which I use and a few others have said they use). You can always pull up your logs in the app or on the site (This is cloud based but I doubt you'll want to use it as your main texting app on your phone). On top of that all received texts can show up on your phone. Sending texts via the app though do not appear in your messaging app.

Google Voice all the way. Just makes life easier. Texts appear on phone, tablet, and chrome gv extension on my pc simultaneously. Plus transcribed vm's'

Are you guys paying for Google voice? I setup the light version but couldn't find any thing that would text on it.

DeskSMS seems to work pretty well. The way it works (and the way I was looking for an app to function) is that the app gets installed on the phone, and when SMSs are received by the phone, the app pushes them out to services of your choice (gmail, gchat, desksms website...)

Whichever service you use, when you respond to the gmail email, or gchat message, or use the website, it pushes the SMS back to the phone for the phone to send out.

Are you sure you've got the right service? Google Voice is 100% free - there is no "light" or "paid" version unless you're buying international voice minutes.

Do you guys who are using Google Voice ever have any problems with texts not coming when they are sent? I used Voice for a while when I first got my GSII but I would frequently miss texts and/or receive texts hours after they were sent, so I stopped using it. I was bummed because it's a great service...if it worked reliably.

I've been using Google Voice for 3 years now, and I'm not sure if I've ever missed a text or received it significantly after it was sent. I use it entirely for work, too, so I'd tend to get flak if this was happening regularly.

If you were doing picture mail that is an issue. Google voice doesn't work 100% with picture mail (i've noticed it does work sometimes with Sprint due to Sprint/Google integration). There has been a couple times (when I first got my GSII) when I'd miss texts for a few hours. It only lasted maybe the first week but after that it's only happened like one other time and to be honest I couldn't identify if it was Google's or Sprint's fault.

I only use my Google Voice # for calls/texts and I've been using it for about a year and a half now as my permanent solution.

I have used a couple different ones to allow texting from my Asus Transformer, but haven't installed either of them on the Nexus 7, yet.

TexTab
-https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.howettl.textab
-my favourite; connects via bluetooth to your mobile phone; transfer of messages is instantaneous; uses more battery since bluetooth has to be enabled

SyncSMS:
-works ok; some delay/lag; uploads/downloads texts to and from your dropbox account

Tablet Talk needed an IP entered (on the tablet) in order to connect, but it seems very nice and works fine over wifi

I use MightyText. If you install the Chrome app on a desktop, and the app on the phone and tablet, you can sync texts between all three. You can also install just the app on the phone and tablet and sync between those two. Works very smoothly and easily. I'm on the computer all day at work, so I can text with family right from my work desktop.

I use MightyText also and every now and then there is a hiccup, but most of the time is works great. The hiccups are texts not sending from my computer / tablet and sometimes not appearing on my computer. This almost always happens when I am at home, so it could be an issue with my phones connection to my router...

Been using TabletTalk for a year or so. No complaints at the current revision.

Links my phone and tab with BlueTooth or WiFi. Receives/sends SMS. Allows answering and dialing from tablet, with tablet-side controls for bluetooth headset or speakerphone. Bluetooth link stays mostly idle so no impact on battery.

Love it. Phone stays on the hip essentially as a modem at this point.

I have also used Mighty Text noting that there are hiccups.. I installed Verizon Message over the weekend and so far so good. I'm gonna uninstall my Mighty Text and handscent texting program. Then I will use the Verizon app this week to see how well I like it. Will report back my findings.
