Talking Creating folders

Well, I've been looking for a way to create folders. Touching and holding down the home screen is no help, and there's no convenient menu button with an option to do so.

I finally figured it out. Group all the apps you want to put in a folder together. When you want to create a folder, quickly swipe one app over the other. If you do this slowly, the app you hold will merely displace the app you're going to. So do it quickly. A circle appears with tiny icons of both apps. To add more apps, flick apps to the folder. To name the folder, tap it, and tap where it says unnamed folder. This will allow you to type the name you want on this new folder.

Hope you find this useful.

I created a folder by accident and couldn't figure out how to un-create it :-).

I thought I read that icons were supposed to shift around to make room when you re-positioned them, so I tried it, and wound up with a folder instead of having the existing icon move.

Just long click the icon you want to remove from the folder and move it out or move to the "remove" area up on top, just as you would do any of the icons on the home pages, etc...

You don't need to unlock your device to respond to notifications (assuming it isn't pin locked). Just swipe down the notification bar and tap the email (for example) and it will bring you right into the Gmail app.

To boot into safe mode simply long press on "Power Off" in the shutdown menu and you will choose safe mode right there.

Default Chrome browser

At first I didn't like the Chrome browser on my Nexus because it defaults to showing the entire site in small print. Double·tap on a column of text to zoom in for a perfect fit. Also if you click near multiple hyperlinks, a zoomed display of the area is shown.

I believe it was in ICS too, unless it was only on custom ROMs, but I've had that for a long time now.

I kind of envisioned this thread encompassing both ICS and JB as many of the folks getting the N7 are coming from ginger bread.

Ya that's true, I guess I can barely even remember Gingerbread since I've always been rooted so I've had the newest as soon as its leaked...

Another one I found is if you need to reboot to safe mode, hold the power button until the power off option is on screen. Touch and hold power off to see the option come up over top of the list with an explanation of what safe mode is

For those who don't want to root or use a launcher, you can get the home screen to rotate to landscape using Ultimate Rotation Control. Sadly it will also rotate every app you have but you can fix that in the apps settings

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate&feature=search_result# ?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm5sLmZhbWVpdC5yb3RhdGUiXQ..

Hi, could you tell me what the setting is to rotate the home screen, I can't seem to figure it out?
Cheers

When you have multiple tabs open in Chrome browser you can scroll through them by placing your finger tip on the center line splitting the display and the black border. Then just move right or left. Keep your finger on the screen until you find the tab you want.

Apologize if this has been posted before.

I know this isn't really an app section but may be considered a tip.

I'm looking for something on the tablet (or app to get) that functions like the Task Manager on ICS/Gingerbread.
I cannot seem to locate on the Nexus 7 something universal to stop running background crap.

If you swipe away the previously seen apps , found by pressing the lit icon right of the home icon, isn't that the same as stopping them like a task manager?

No, that's recent apps. Swiping them off just clears them away. Like clearing recently used on windows.

It isn't exactly convenient, but you can swipe notifications down from the top, click on the settings icon then click on Apps and then look at running apps tab, and there is an option to force close.
