Nope, no separation here.

I have a hard time knowing if this counts or not. I would never have been able to detect anything if I hadn't stared really hard at it in a bright light edge on. There is a barely visible line of glass visible microscopically raised on the left side which doesn't show up on the right side. Without all the complaints about it in the forum, I would never have looked that hard. I still can't get worked up about it, though :-).

I have the same. Took the back cover and off and tightened the screws, but it hasn't helped. I am debating whether or not to send it back to Google. If I hadn't read about it, I probably would never have noticed it, and it hasn't caused any problems or gotten any worse. It does bother my sense of OCD though :-)

How long did it take for those who have the problem to notice it. I've had my device for almost 5 days now and I haven't noticed anything happening yet. Am I in the clear?

Additional charges for the full price of the device will be incurred if our service center doesn’t receive your original device within 21 days of your replacement delivery.

Additional charges up to the full price of your device will be incurred if our service center determines that the damage to your original device isn’t covered under warranty.

An authorization for the full price of the replacement device will be placed on your credit card. This means that a portion of your card’s credit limit is held for several days, but no charge is made if your original device is delivered within 21 days and the damage to your device is verified to be covered under warranty.
I think you need to read the policy in a bit more detail. No where in this that you pasted says that if they find your unit to not be defective by their standards you will be charged. What I get from this is that you need to return it within 21 days and if you took a hammer and damaged the screen yourself they will not cover that and bill you for the new device.

I read in this forum of a person that cracked their screen pushing down on the raised part trying to fuse the glue back together and google agreed to send them a new one ignoring the crack of the screen. I think this speaks to the fact that Google appreciate that you bought something from them and that the defect is unfortunate but they are willing to replace it. Do not really quote me on how appreciative they are because every company is motivated by profits but if they want to compete they have to have a good product.

As for mine - I have the same problem very slight screen rise on the left side and want to get it fixed I will call google today and see what I can do. It says I need to talk to ASUS to RMA the product so I may end up talking to them too but what ever - I just hope they send me a new one without the issue.

I really like my N7 and would just get it replaced if there was a problem.
I made it late at night. Sorry for the negativity. It's a mix of exhaustion and mine having screen separation.

...does anyone have any photos of this screen separation business? I don't think I've seen anything on that front.

Let me see if I can take a few photos.

Okay, I took a few really quick. Notice how in this picture, the silver frame is visible all the way from left to right. This is the right side of the tablet.

Now look at this one, and see how the silver frame disappears about halfway through. This is the left side of the tablet.

I have very slight separation in the upper middle left hand side, it gives very slightly when pressed, and you can see its just the width of a sheet of paper above the bezzel, but its so slight that I'm not too bothered. Certainly not worth RMA-ing it over.

Mine was pretty slight at first but seem to get worse as I used it. I assume that the heat once I started using it was the culprit. Replacement shipped.

With mine, I can actually even see light coming through the gap if the LED backlights are on.

No screen separation whatsoever. Too bad this was not a poll option. A simple yes or no would have sufficed.

I took a few pictures. All of them were taken in the dark and without flash to give a fair representation:

Just click the other option and voice your opinion. That was easy.

Why is the only no option "no and I wouldn't care anyway"? I don't have the separation issue, but if I did, I would be sending it back. Why is there not just a generic "no" option?

Wow this is my thread and the name changed :-) obviously I have the same problem and talked to Google today. Absolutely no problems with the rep who told me that my card will be authorized for 250 dollars and the hold will be taken off once Google gets the old unit. No where in the email I received did it say I have to buy another nexus 7. I carefully read everything and I can post the text but nothing about the device being tested. I don't understand what people are talking about.

Anyway I hope the new unit does not have this problem. Hope this also calms the nerves. :-)

OK.. My screen isn't lifted per-se. However, the glass does seem higher above that point, there is still a whisker of rim there, but there is definitely less rim height above the glass here than elsewhere on the device.

If I squeeze the device there, I can hear the clicking/squishing noise mentioned.

Hmmm not really happy about it, but it is a cheaper tablet. If it gets no worse I can live with it.

I bought mine from a retail outlet. I rang Google Australia and they told me I have to deal with them, (JB HiFi). This is a pain. I bet all the one's JB carry probably have the fault.

Just noticed a small bit of rise at the bottom right of my tablet after having it since last Friday. Pushed it down and it seemed to stay put. Doubt that will hold it, but it doesn't bother me nearly enough to return it.

With mine, before I even removed the plastic wrap I pressed on the left side and there was obvious lift and creak. This is a defect in the (most likely) plastic glass backing which either pushes on the glass, or is pulling the glue.

LAAAAAME. I had a one week run with no issues, then as I was using it on the couch last night I felt a slight snag on the left side. It just didn't feel as smooth and seamless as it did. Sure enough, screen separation. A couple months down the line and I could have lived with it, but I've had it a week. A little early for physical defects.

What phone number is everyone calling to get this resolved? And are they sending you a new one before you have to send your current one back?

That sucks! The worst thing is that it seems like it gets worse as the tablet gets warm through charging and heavy gaming (GTA, or Dead trigger). Also I notice that the silver trim on the left side has some deformation that makes it not completely straight. I'm going to ask that Google opens the box and checks to make sure that my replacement is flawless. This is the kind of stuff that almost makes me miss my Flyer (Almost lol) Oh and that number is 855-83-NEXUS (63987)You may have to dial a "1" before that. Tell them the problems your having and they will quickly set up the exchange and email you some information and your return shipping label. You send your defective tablet back within 21 days of receiving the new one. Enough time to test to see if the replacement is ok.

In the heat and humidity it seems like it is getting worse. I think I'm going to set up an RMA with Google when I get home from vacation. Sorry to have to send it back, but judging by the posts on this forum, the exchanges go fairly smoothly.

I've been looking into this for a while and here is pretty much everything you need to know about it:

The screw fix (popping the back off and tightening the screws) only lasts for a day tops
If you order it from Google Play and request an RMA you will be sent an email that links to the store to "purchase" a new one. This link does not actually charge your credit card but puts a hold on it. The email you get does not specify that it is a purchase but rather an RMA despite the fact you go through the link they provided as if it was a purchase.
You have 21 days to return your original tablet from the day you receive the new tablet. After 21 days your credit card will be charged if you did not send your tablet back.
Despite the fact you have 3 weeks to return it the UPS return label they provide you with is only valid for 2 weeks from the date of issuance (before you get your tablet)
If google receives your old tablet back they have the right to say that it is not broken or not covered under warranty and charge you for the tablet. There have been no reports of Google enforcing their rights.

With that said I've had the left side screen separation issue and the clicking noise. I tried the screws to no avail. I then decided to heat the device with a portable heater for about an hour while clamping the screen down with plastic clamps over a paper towel (to prevent damage to the glass). I have already requested my RMA before this. I can say its been several days and the fix has hold. Due to Google's right to charge me if the device is not broken I've tried hard to get the screen to separate slightly. I have even gone as far as heating it and sliding something like a playing card between the screen to prevent it from settling. This works, but it appears with in a couple hours my screen resets itself back into the tablet in perfect condition. If you screen comes separated I'd recommend heating it with the screen clamped down and allow to cool for about an hour. If it starts to come lose again just leave it be during normal usage and it seems to reset.

Now I just have to figure out how to get my screen to separate again slightly so Google won't charge me for the return.

I noticed the problem the day I got it and before I read anything about it.
I didn't think much of it and the fact the screen has lifted in itself wouldn't have bothered me enough to do anything about it.
The problem is that it got a bit worse and that I can see and feel it moving under handling.
I could still live with that but I worry it will get whose and become a bigger problem when its too late to do anything about it.

I'm guessing that if I got mine through office depot that I need to go through them? If so, they have no local stores in Phoenix so they'd have to ship one to me and I just take my chances?

You probably will have to call office depot about that. And a city as big as Phoenix doesn't have an Office Depot? That's shocking. Hopefully they can just mail it to you.

Within the first hour of taking my Nexus 7 out of the box, I noticed it would make a creaking noise when I picked it up and put it down. But my screen sat below the bezel all around, so I thought it was OK. This morning however, I found the left side of the screen had now popped up to the point that it was sitting higher than the bezel. I can gently press the screen and it will sit back below the bezel but it doesn't stay put. I called Google this morning and initiated a return.

I really hope the next one is defect free as I'm loving the unit. I like it much more than my Xoom. :-)

So far my replacement for the same reason has been fine. It was fine out of the box. So fingers crossed for you too.

My lifting took a turn for the worst about 12 hrs ago. The glass has developed a popping sound if you press the screen in, it pops right back out loudly. I really hope that my replacement is perfect

I would still have to pay for a hold since this hold would have been during the statement stage of my bill...

This is just of you use a debit card. The point with credit cards and why you should use them for this purpose is so that they authorize small amount like a dollar to see if the card is active and the is money on your account the hold on a credit card is just a difference on your available balance not on your current balance as the money has not actually left the account. For debit cards they are authorized for the entire amount because the company does not know if you are simply not going to withdraw the entire amount in your account and close it. I use to work at a hotel and it was the same way when people checked in.

So I decided to go ahead with a replacement. Gonna get a USB otg and a USB flash drive to copy my SD Card. I thought I could live with this creaky screen but it has gotten worse.

I have read countless threads about this issue with folks like me that have no separation and folks that had slight to severe separation. My conclusion is if it arrived with no separation and it didn't appear in the first few days, you should be in the clear (although I am still keeping an eye on mine). If you have even slight separation you should initiate a warranty exchange ASAP as none of the fixes work and it only gets worse.

ok. the replacement N7 arrived today with very slight screen lift immediately. I'm going to give this one a week to see how bad it gets, then think about returning it. All is working perfectly other than the lift. It is less than my original unit, but still present.

You should exchange it immediately. From what I've read around here and the web is that even if you have just a little separation, it always gets worse. Mine used to be "just a little" as well, and now it has gotten severe.

I am wondering if the new units that are currently coming out of the factory have that year or whether corrective measures have been taken to fix the problem. If replacements are arriving faulty this can be really bad for Google.

After I find a little more steady and better paid employment I think I might invest the money for a more quality tablet as it has completely replaced the need for a laptop which is nearly the same amount any way like 500 and if there still these kinds of problems I may actually opt for an ipad.

well - a couple of hours of dead trigger, charging and transformers movie watching hasn't made it move. I've got a while left on the google warranty, so I'll see how it progresses.
