I just bought this tablet from Walmart. As I was reading an e-book one night I thought I noticed something different on the left side of the tablet edge in the middle. It seemed as though the glass was loose from the edge. Thought it was my imagination. Guess not
Another issue that has cropped up is now it takes a good 10-15secs of holding down the power button for the boot screen to come on. It used yo be hold down about 4 sec release and boot screen. It was suggested by someone from Asus to hold down power and down volume buttons until screen comes up with tiny writing and to let the device turn itself on. Only thing is it never turns on. The battery just heats up. Going to have to make a decision fast about whether to exchange since Walmart has a 15 day return policy for electronics. Any ideas about the software glitch? Glad I'm not alone with the screen problem.

Just simply get a brand new one. Don't even go through the headache of worrying about the screen getting worse.

Update on my earlier post of 9/13/12. After the denial from Asus, my son contacted Google via email and explained the situation from them. They emailed him back and apologized for the warranty confusion which they say is now corrected, and offered to send him a new unit, with a 21 day return period for his old unit. They also confirmed that a crack in the screen due to the lift of the screen is covered under warranty. It sounds to me like Google and Asus had a little meeting and Asus now understands what their warranty covers. I'm feeling a lot better about keeping mine.

So has yours had any screen issue sat all? I've gone through 3 all with screen issues. I've loved the tablet and really want it back, but not if all of them have screen defects.

It's seriously too bad that this tablet has this issue. It's such an awesome tablet. The best in the market, IMHO, if it wasn't for this stupid problem.

How about posting some serial numbers so we can see if there's a pattern?

thought I had survived. Not this forums fault though as I had forgotten about the problem. then after a couple of days with a new game I found the screen starting to feel as if I was popping bubble wrap. The only good thing about buying from Google direct is their returns service.
the only issue is that by the time I checked next morning I had trouble noticing it. Its certainly seems to be a heat issue with the glue, but I doubt very much that it has been remedied completely.
must say the new one isn't visibly lifting, but you can feel it is higher than the right

Posting serials numbers of your device is a public forum doesn't sound like a wise idea. Maybe lot/batch number is better.

I got some 2 part epoxy and took the back off loosened the screws for the screen and cemented the screen in place. Permanent fix. Only needed a tiny amount of epoxy along the length of the gap. Make sure to weigh it down so it cures in place.

Where did you pick that up? I'm kind of interested in doing something like this myself. May need some more instruction though.

True and thanks.
Sorry - I meant to also suggest leaving off the last two digits. I don't know that people will participate anyway, but it is a QC technique.

I am on my second Nexus 7. Neither of them had screen separation. My first one, C70, developed a non-responsive screen and quite a bit of lag. Talked to both Asus and Google. I ended up returning it and got a new one, C80. No problems so far.

From following several N7 threads it seems the general consensus is C80 is a better batch.

I'm still fighting the good fight in trying to get a good n7. I'm not even being picky lol. If I have a dead pixel, I can deal with it. The screen lift, absolutely not.

I rma'd for the 2nd time literally 10 minutes ago. My first n7 had screen lift, my second has screen lift, gets hot enough that it can't be touched and unresponsive screen issues. Both were c70s. I had hoped for a c90 on the last rma but I guess they have enough refurbs now that they aren't shipping new ones for replacement

If the next one is bad ill just get a refund. Like I said I'm not very picky, I just want to be able to pick up my tablet and use it without all these issues.

I've got a C60 with very minor screen lift, although I haven't seen it in a long while, since it's in a a smart case. So basically, perfect N7

So how do you know whether your N7 is from a C70 or C80 batch?

Look on the box it came in or on the bottom of your N7 where the serial # would be.

Has happened to me, rang Google and they have sent me the email I need to use to order a replacement.

Just need to ask for those who have sent there's back and got a replacement, do I just need to order the replacement, print off the form they sent me, re pack the nexus and then hand my old one to the delivery driver when my replacement is ordered?

Also I keep getting a black line appear every now and then on the screen, just flashes up briefly, is this part of screen separation or something else?

Thanks

Jon

I believe that's how they replace them, but not sure.
As for the line, I don't think it's related. I have it, but I also have very minor screen lift. But I think I saw it mentioned by quite a few people that don't have lift too.

I haven't seen this addressed lately....

As of today, if i return my unit for screen separation, is there any consensus if the current ones being sent are any better?

The guy from Google said to me as well that although there not selling the 8GB version, they still have them for replacements.

I just hope they don't send me one that has been returned, and that its a new one. Thought I might have had a 16gb sent seems there now down to 159.

My C90 batch is perfect. C80 had very small screen lift so i returned it to store.

Since it's well past store return period, but still well within mfg warranty, how/who do I contact?

My guess would be Google if you can't return it to store. Although wouldn't you be able to return it to the store under the warranty?

Not after 4 months.

I found the Google website which does have a listing of google devices and the warranty contact info for their various manufacturers.

Just managed to re order a replacement. Didn't get the 16GB had to have another 8GB model. :-(

Apparently I get a return slip to stick on the package to send it back when my new one is delivered. So it looks like my old one isn't taken there and then, must have to send it back separately.

Ok so after 4 replacements I was given the option for refund and I gladly took it. Dude that I was talking to kept saying how weird it was that I got so many defective units and stuff. I was trying to explain to him that Google should cut the deal with Asus and make them look bad because of the poor quality. Anyway - I will go without a tablet for now once my job demands one maybe Nexus 7 bought from the store or Galaxy Note 10.1 just saying!

I'm about to call on my 5th one. The last guy was shocked that I'd had so many. Said this was rare. But every single one has had the lift. When I opened up the last one, it looked perfect until I charged it. Then it popped right up. It's pretty sad that they still can't get this right.

Hopefully they give me the refund option. I was planning on asking for it anyway.

I received my 32GB version from BuyDig on Ebay last week. It has screen separation at the bottom and left side right out the box. I haven't even bothered to turn it on. I'm very disappointed with this purchase and even more disappointed that I have to pay return shipping for a flawed product.

I called around all the local shops after checking google play (they were sold out). Walmart ended up having a couple (this was sep 2nd). Picked one up within the next 15 mins, fully charged it then set it up. C70 batch. Soon after I noticed the lift (middle left side of the glass). after trying the screws a couple times I gave up. Later after finding the guy that broke of the small piece of plastic on the back cover it hit me.. that small piece is just enough to push the screen back up after pressing it down. you get the screen to re attach to the double sided tape & frame of the nexus (whish is pretty thin in that section if you've ever seen one without the screen in place). I removed the back cover, cut the small tab off directly under where the highest lift point was & replaced the cover. That was some time ago now & my screen stays down. a bit of epoxy would be nice but I hate the thought of getting it everywhere & Im satisfied....

I had this a few months ago. I just popped it back in place and it hasn't been a problem since. I guess that I got a relatively early model - wasn't a big enough deal to send it back.

I just got a N7 a couple of weeks ago with no lift or separation issues. The number of screen issues is alarming. I find it difficult to believe this many devices made it through QC. This leads me to ask those with separation issues: Are you using a protection case for your device and if so, does it attach to the device where flexing it could cause a separation problem?

Some of those cases, folders, and portfolios with attachment points right on the edge of the screen and case look like instruments of torture for such a delicate device as the N7 to me.

I don't think it has anything to do with cases at all. They're fine coming out the box but seems the separation is taking place once it heats up.

in my opinion it's not something a new user might recognize right off the bat being that it's only a small defect. I fixed mine, like I stated I tried the screw's (both tightening them and loosening them). I can understand people's apprehension after seeing all these quick fixes, but it does turn out to be that little plastic tab on the back cover directly behind the major point of screen lift the unit gets warm causing the double sided tape to give a bit allowing the screen to lift away from the frame..

I don't see it on this one...but those of us--like me--who've had cracked screens are wondering if this might not be the reason some of them have cracked easier than you would expect. See: http://androidforums.com/nexus-7/605927-google-nexus-7-replacement-screen-2.html

I didn't: mine dropped about 3 feet onto it's back, and cracked, and I paid ASUS $170 to get it fixed. It's on me, and I paid, but I started noticing all the cracked screens floating around the web...hope is just due to bad luck, clumsy boys, and stuff like that...that testing they showed sure made us think they were sturdier...none of my netbooks or smartphones have cracked, and they've been treated the same way....

Yeah, I probably should've gotten a new one...but oh well.

And others have had cracked for lesser drops, no drops at all, etc. We hope that it's just a matter of us getting used to taking better care of our tablets...but any problem near the screen, we pay attention to, as there are more than you'd think...
