You need a mini periscope that slips on over the top to give you forward view ... Now if only someone made such a thing!

Just velcro a real (small) camera on the back... better pictures.

I read a scientific study recently. They did a survey of 1,864 people who took photos on tablets, and it turns out that 1,863 of them look completely foolish.

The one who didn't was Brad Pitt, and it was only because the survey-taker thought he was dreamy.

Welcome to the forums!!!

The nexus 7 doesn't have a spot for the rear camera, and you would most likely do damage to everything underneath by doing it yourself.

A lady stood there with an iPad at my graduation last spring and I couldn't help but laugh at how foolish people look taking videos/pictures with a tablet.

The self shot mirror photos are the worst

Actually I use a 35mm display back camera in a mirror at the back display of the camera and take a picture of myself that way. But yeah taking videos of people with a tablet front side camera is funny because the people look at themselves on the screen without realizing that you are taking a video of them.
I wonder if you can plug into the USB port with a host adapter cable and then plug a small USB digital camera into it.

I still don't understand why anybody would NEED a rear camera to take pictures on a tablet, considering most people who would have a tablet probably also have a compact smartphone with a better camera anyway. Why pull that big thing out when you can just use your phone? Then dropbox it to your tablet if you absolutely need it there.

I have an 8 megapixel camera on my HTC Rezound. Why would I need a camera on the Nexus 7 to take pictures? Just use the front camera for Skype or other video chat apps.

Because its easier to show pictures on a 7 inch screen tablet than a 3 inch phone and easier to email a small photo file than a big file.

Snap a picture with my Galaxy S III.
Upload picture to Dropbox.
Download picture to my Nexus 7 (or any other device, for that matter).

What's so hard about that?
And who still uses 3 inch phones? (Android)

People who use a phone for a phone have a 3inch phone ... Why do you have a N7? If your phone can do everything? But seriously what you said is NOT as simple as aim the tablet, take a photo, display a photo ... Email a photo ... You realize with drop box you can only use it on line right? I take photos outside and for the quick low rez shot the N7 works great, for a 3.3mega pixel focused shot I pull out my Nokia5800 and then Bluetooth transfer it to my N7 ... No need for two step transfers with dropbox or an internet connection.

All that being said, again I ask... why would you NEED a camera on a tablet when you already seem to have a solution for taking them and storing them?

Why do I have a Nexus 7? Initially it was to store e-textbooks for school, but then I realized that I can do just about everything I used to do on my netbook on my Nexus 7 instead. And many games play better on the larger screen as well (like shooters). Basically, when I need a computer at home or at school, I can use this. In transit back and forth, I use my SIII. Plus my SIII's battery life is pretty bad, so the extra device with longer lasting battery helps.

Getting decent picture with any mobile device is practically impossible - because of the poor lenses. Last week I bought an Olympus 12MP and 3" screen for $79. It make superb pictures and the camera fits into the palm of my hand. Each pic is 3MB which means a lot of pixels. I think that is the preferred solution.

When my daughter recently moved to Virginia, we Skype'd and she used her iPad with the rear camera on and gave me a tour of her new home. So, there is a use other than taking photos for a rear camera.

That could have easily been done the same way by turning the tablet around though.

I don't think anyone saying you cant FIND uses for it, but I'm not sure its a needed feature

who needs a rear camera on a tablet? 90% of pictures i see from a maxipad are taken in a mirror anyways with rear camera.... so lame, called the inside camera made for social calls or personal pics.... just saying tho, almost all smart phones now have a better camera in the rear than they put in tablets, cool feature but then the nexus 7 wouldnt be $200 or $250 i'd be like $275 or w/e...

The only problem with turning a tablet around is you can't see what the camera is showing. Another use is taking photos of documents and archiving them.

So, it's a connivence, but not necessarily a necessity.

Why use Dropbox when you can sync your android photos straight to Google+/Picasa without using any cloud space..?

So anyone seen the innotab 2? Now that is a camera solution for a tablet. It pivots from front facing to rear facing.

It all makes sense now:

Google Nexus 7 was planned to have a rear camera

ASUS: There’s no Nexus 7 rear camera because you’d only complain
