Hey guys, 4.1.2 is out. Added are landscape homescreen and some new notification expansion gestures.

You can either take the ota, manually flash the OTA, or wait until your ROM of choice includes it.. This will break root, so either use nexus root toolkit to re-root or use something like OTA root keeper (or supersu)

If you have deleted system apps, the download above will fail. I have edited the above file (only changing the updater-script) so that it will work. I've done this for the OG EVO crowd a few times. If someone wants a how-to post for their own information for the future I can write that up. Very easy to do.

Thank you very much, and also thanks for pointing out SuperSU. I'm not a super-geek and I didn't know of it. I installed the Pro version and I hope it allows survival of root across the 4.1.2 OTA update. I'll report back here. I have not seen the OTA come up yet, but I got the one you posted. Again thanks very very much!

So I've used supers from the beginning when rooting this one, are you sure rootkeeper is obsolete then? I just downloaded it and I don't want it to conflict or anything.

If you read the description in the play store OTA root keeper doesn't work with super Su because its already covered.

Oops, you're right I didn't read that part. I haven't bought supers though so I don't have that functionality... Bummer

Care to expand on that? I'm running a 4.1.1 kernel on 4.1.2 right now.

According to Google new nexus' coming out won't be able to run 4.1.1, but there's nothing going on with mine.

OTA applied against 100% stock 4.1.1 using SuperSU and the original OTA file you posted THANKS!! Turn on Survival Mode in SuperSU, do the OTA via CWM (not off-air!), answer Yes to the disable recovery overwrite and preserve root options on CWM reboot system, and voila! 4.1.2. Be sure to turn Survival Mode in SuperSU back off BEFORE DOING A NANDROID!!

My take is that 4.1.1 kernels aren't compatible with 4.1.2 roms.

Is your kernel built from source?

What exactly did you "take out"? I see your edited updater is only 64K, I took out all the /system/apps/* and mine is still over 84K, but I see you left quite a few of those in.

Quick question! It's been a while since I dealt with a system update...
I have moved some apps to my /system partition, will I lose those when I decide to take the OTA or flash manually?

I took out all of Google's system checks. Simply open it up to compare.





Back them up with an app like titanium backup just in case. A nandroid couldn't hurt either.

Yeah I did a full titanium yesterday when I read about the ota, just in case it would roll in during work
Haven't done a nandroid yet, I'm still on stock recovery. Might do it on wugs toolkit later.
I've decided to wait it out, it's a very minor update and with the N1 I was never able to muster the patience, the only OTAs I had were when unboxing my N1 and N7.

Let's see if the years made me more patient...

Ahh, yes could do that but you answered the question so no need now . I just removed the system app checks, which was my issue since I got rid of the bloat. I don't mind it checked everything else out, maybe even a good thing. The flash worked fine with the edits I made. Thanks.

Also, there's an app "Online Nandroid Backup" that works sweet, no need to go into recovery or use WUG's toolkit from the pc.

Yes, you can flash it from twrp or cwm. I'd suggest staying with twrp

Mine was rooted and didnt have a custom ROM.
It got the update OTA.
Now that I have to re-root.
Does rooting erase the data?? I dont remember since I rooted long time ago.

No. Unlocking the bootloader is what wipes data. If I were you I'd download wugs nexus root toolkit and have it automatically root and put on a custom recovery

I followed this guide and the update failed. Went to reboot my device and it gets stuck at the Google logo. I can't even get into recovery. I think I'm perma bricked....

Do you know what the error code was? Sounds like a potential bad download to me. Its the same file I used to successfully update after the official one failed to flash multiple times.

Either way, I'm going to pull the file for now.

Your file is perfectly fine! I didn't have time to comment yet, but I used it today after 4 failed OTAs.
Long story short, don't move downloaded updates to system apps to your /system if you want to get updates.

But anyway, thanks for your check-disabled update!

I was rooted and unlocked and got and accepted the OTA. Everything went smoothly (even with TWRP) but now I have to wait to get home to re-root

Just got the update. I was rooted, used ota rootkeeper, and now rooted again with a single click. Everything has worked like a charm. So far.

I think the file might have corrupted during the download. The same thing happened to the restore fast boot files I had to use a different computer.

Hello, I got the update notice on my Nexus 7, but when I try updating it, it says 'Verification failed' on the page. Any help?

Nvm, ignore the top. I tried checking for the update and it downloads and verification is checked. Once it restarts, it gets to clockworkmod recovery screen and asks if I want to install an untrusted zip package. I select yes, but it gives me this error.

Its a minor update other than auto rotate I don`t see the benefit.
It prompted me to update today. Is it OK just not to update till key lime pie comes out?
The ota will break root. Will it break root to do it through twrp as well? Want to weigh the pros and cons of doing it.
I cleared the prompt from the drop down ota. If I still want to update it later how do I get it back?

Android 4.2 is still jellybean, so key lime pie is still far away.

It will break root no matter how you do it. The good thing is it only takes a minute to reroot

So is this update really worth doing in other words?
I already have rotate app installed. It keeps prompting me to do it.
I'm rooted with twrp. Should I do the ota update and reroot or should I flash through twrp.
Or better yet not do it at all? Will it overwrite twrp?
If I enable root keeper in supersu do I still need to flash the file manually with twrp because if I use the ota it will rewrite stock recovery?

Failing md5 checksum means bad download.

The md5 for that download is C2C87DB0EE10D73BFCE850847159161F
if that doesnt match, redownload.

The OTA will fail if you have uninstalled any system files. It will also unroot you and overwrite your custom recovery usually.

Updated this morning. All I noticed was the ability to use the actual JB interface in landscape mode.

Also, is anyone else having troubles with stickmount now? It won't mount anything for me since updating. It recognizes the device when I plug it in and asks me what I want to do, but I hit 'mount' and it comes up "Active mounts: none". Tried 4 different flash drives and one NTFS portable HDD, all of which worked previously and I can't get any of them to work now.

Hey guys, I was prompted this morning and updated without thinking about it breaking root. I've tried using the nexus root toolkit to restore root but it won't do anything. It gets to 'Checking fast boot status' and then fails, even though the drivers are still configured correctly since last time I rooted. I tried reinstalling the drivers and I got the same issue.

Advice please?

Rerooting sucks but might have no choice if I can't get the update prompt to go away. Is there anyway to disable the prompting and not do the update? I might keep this version till kelp if possible. But if the prompting doesn't stop I might have to update.

Try starting with the device already in fastboot.
also make sure USB debugging is on
