Default Can't Install Asus ADB Drivers

I recently downloaded the Carbon backup app so I could back up my Nexus 7 before I root it. However, when I installed it, it needed to connect to my computer before I could use the app. When I connected to my computer, it said I needed to install the Google ADB drivers. So, I downloaded the drivers from Carbon's website, but when I tried to install them in Windows 8's device manager, it said that no drivers could be found in the directory I specified. I do have the drivers unzipped, and I had it check for subdirectories. I tried doing the same process with the Nexus Root Toolkit, but it ran into the same problem. Even when I tried to run the backup utility, it was unable to reboot my device to start the backup process. What should I do to get these drivers installed? I am running Windows 8 64-bit and my Wi-Fi 32 GB Nexus 7 is running 4.2.2.

Every time I try to install a driver, I get the error "Windows was unable to install your Nexus 7." I have tried various Google and Asus USB drivers, and none were able to install.

not being a windows person there is not going to be an easy way for me to help you. Have you rebooted the computer and tried seeing if it will install them that way?

Just to cover all the basis, make sure the device has usb debugging enabled. You can do this by tapping your taping your build number under the about phone option in settings. Once you have downloaded the drivers, make sure they are are in a folder unzipped if they are zipped. With the device plugged into the computer and usb debugging enabled, open up your device manager. You should see an unrecognized android device. Right click on it and click update drivers. You want to click the browse in order to manually select the drivers. It should give you the option to browse and located the drivers. Select the folder with the Asus drivers and click OK. Then continue and it should attempt to install. If this is what you did and still ran into issue let me know.

Since this is a problem that you're experiencing in preparation for rooting the device (and it very well could turn into a support thread for when you do root the device), I'm going to move this on over to the all things root forum.

It may be able to help other people in that forum who are going through the same thing in the future.

I have done exactly that process, and it still gives me the error I quoted in the second post. However, the tablet does not show up as an unidentified Android device in the Device Manager; it simply shows up as "Nexus 7" at the top of the list of unidentified USB devices. Even after attempting to uninstall the device and plug it back in, it always is identified as Nexus 7.

This sounds like the MTP drivers are installed. Is USB debugging enabled?

Yes, I have tried installing the drivers with or without USB Debugging and with MTP and PTP.

When you choose to uninstall the drivers before attempting to re-install, there should be a check box to delete the driver. Do you check that box or leave it unchecked?

Part 1 I bought my nexus last week and had the same problem with drivers but it seemed OK as my laptop could recognise the device.

Part 2 Seemed strange. I found this website and this solved the problem.

Hope this solves your problem.
