I'm at a week today since I ordered my replacement. The mail stated less than a week but no sign.
To be honest I wish I hadn't bothered, it only clicks if I press the bezel far right nearest the silver side cover. It's only the fact that I like things to be in perfect condition that I ordered a replacement.
Got my 4th one delivered yesterday and also has it but very very slight. I wrapped it in a towel and clamped it with some small vice grips where the screen is coming up. Took the vice grips off this morning, no screen lift. Will leave it off all day and see if it comes back.
So how much separation is bad enough to return? My separation is barely visible to the eye (have to really inspect it) and I only get a small creaking if I intentionally press hard on the left side.
I've heard it just gets worse. But I read about people on multiples that it makes me wonder if this amount of separation might be as good as I'm going. I can't imagine exchanging it from Walmart is going to get me a better one out of the same batch if it's a design/manufacturing flaw.

Both of mine are perfect, so this is only my opinion. If you have creaking, I would exchange it as there would seem to be movement where there should be none.
Live with it for a few days and check back or do a return. That may actually be good news as they most likely will get replenished from a different batch which may (hopefully) not have the issue. Having been here seeing all the folks getting them, it seems like the bad ones come in bunches.
It is really bad, probably over a full mm of protrusion, which of course moves all the way down to where it should be when I press it. I just checked and the walmart across the street from my Sam's supposedly has them in stock. I will check there, and if they do, buy one there and then go across the street and return this one.

So my first replacement is starting to show signs of separation. Not as bad as the original but I have a feeling that is going to get worse. I am still waiting for confirmation of the first return. Looks like I will be sending back another one. Oh well. It is good practice for unlocking and rooting and all that jazz. Plus, another 10 bucks for initializing Google Wallet on a new device.

Glad to hear it. I'm nervous....my 3rd one is tracking for delivery on Monday.
Just got my nexus a couple of days ago. Noticed it's lifted on the left side of the screen (feels 'spongy' like it's not glued down right). I found a lot of people screwed the screws tighter after removing the back panel; it works for some but not for others.
My issue is whether or not this lift will lead to the screen being more susceptible to cracking??
"This seems to be happening quite a bit. My screen cracked on my Nexus 7 after 5 days. I didn't drop it or anything. It was even in a silicone skin and had a screen protector on it. But it still cracked from one side to the other. I googled "Nexus 7 Screen Crack" and noticed several posts about the screen coming "Unglued" or lifting from the chasis in the middle of the tablet on the left side. Upon checking mine, I noticed it was lifted and the crack was located just below the lift of the glass. I've since sent it to Asus and am waiting a response on repair and if it will be covered as a manufacturer defect. When speaking to the Asus rep, he said he had not heard anything about the glass lifting in the middle of the tablet. I told him to google it and check it out. They've had the tablet for 3 days now and still waiting to hear from the repair tech."
--> in this case, i don't know if the lift led to the crack or the crack led to the lift??
But I am concerned that lift may lead to cracks. I have never owned a tablet before and don't own any other 'fancy' devices (smartphones, laptops etc). Are construction issues like this fairly common in electronic devices generally speaking?
Hey pygmy, welcome to AF! We have a pretty good discussion thread going on regarding screen lift, so I went ahead and merged it into this thread.
Your question is a good one, and here is my thinking on this. The glued down screen is better protected inside the bezel, where the lifted one has an edge exposed. Also since it is deformed a little (lifted in the middle on the left), any internal stresses won't be quite uniform, which could cause a concentration at the highest point of the glass. Also since it is loose, it will be subject to cyclical loading (constantly being pushed down and back up) which could lead to a fatigue crack. So yes, I would say it IS possible to see this happen more often with a lifted screen. But how much more often is the question, I imagine it will still be rare in absolute terms.

My story is much like others. Hadn't really noticed any lift until I looked very carefully. Much to my dismay there was some slight lift on the left side. I initiated an exchange yesterday. Well...I just received it and indeed it's worse than the original; actually lift on both sides. Going to send back the replacement today and hold on to my original for a while. I imagine no one is having too much success with tightening the screws eh?

unfortunately, you are not going to be able to hold onto the original. They will ask for it back, you will have to keep the replacement.

I wondered about that. I had ordered through the Office Depot Business Direct, and I have both here on my desk. Once I call customer service back to order another replacement there won't be any way they can pry my original from my hands until I have one that is acceptable.

Oh well it cold be different with office depot. I was speaking about the Google play store. Good luck!
Screen lift gets worse over time (with/without screw tightening?)
Has anyone noticed their screen lift getting worse over time?
And what about the ppl who've tried to fix the screen lift only to have it come back - has the lift continually gotten worse?
In the meantime I'm trying not to touch the left side of the screen....
I don't have the original receipt since I bought it off someone, so I can't send it back under warranty

Thanks buddy. I've got my "white tiger ninja death grip" on my first one. Still trying to determine when to initiate the second exchange.

Got my returns label and package here in the UK today.
I called TNT who were very good and will collect this afternoon. The lady in customer service told me that just about every second call they are taking is a tablet sent back to this account...
I had the raised/flexing/creaking screen, replaced it and got one that was even worse plus the power button was flakey, so I replaced it again. Third time's the charm, and kudos to Gamestop for letting me swap it twice (they were really friendly about it... didn't give me a hard time at all).
The quality control on these is lacking, apparently.
Mine has screen rise after only one day. I'm not too fussed at the moment. it is working fine, and is less than 1mm. I might contact google if it gets any worse. It certainly isn't affecting the screen itself.
But my question on this is, can his separation problem affect the sensitivity of the screen? It almost seems as if I have a dead spots in my touch screen.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

No dead spots, but in my case pushing on the squidgy bit of the bezel caused some phantom touches.
2nd unit is better but not perfect.

That's not what happened to me. My replacement turned out to be a lot worse than my original. Obviously I didn't want to keep the replacement so I called up their support line and told them of the situation. They agreed to create a new RMA slip for me to replace the replacement, keep my original, and send in the replacement. If the new replacement is good, then I can send in my original.

I had a very mild case of screen separation on my n7. The glass wasn't above the bezel like it is for some, but it was flush with the bezel on the left, below the bezel on the right.
I tried the screw fix, it didn't fix it. The clamp method seems to have done the trick. I bought a big bag of various sized nylon spring clamps from walmart, for like $7.50.
I wrapped my n7 in a hand towel, and put 4 small clamps along the left side of the device. I heated the left side up with the wife's blow dryer for about 5 minutes, until it was very warm. I left the clamps on over night while I slept.
This was last night, so I'm reluctant to say it's permanently fixed, but so far today the screen has stayed down where it's supposed to be. The left and right hand sides are both just below the bezel. I'll keep an eye on it and report back if the issue rears its ugly head again.
Must say I'm pleased so far, screen feels solid. Why not try the clamp method, a lot of people are saying it worked for them when the other methods didn't. If it comes back I'll rma, no big deal.
Edit: while at walmart I looked at their nexus 7 display model. It had bad screen separation. Just thought that was funny.

Having mine in my case along with a screen protector seems to have fixed mine. It wasn't bad to begin with, but now it's almost the same as the RH side.
I'm undecided whether it's worth changing mine.. It hasn't got worse but it is still there and so slightly annoying. I've already had to factory reset and start all over again once to get Google Now working, can I be bothered to go through that all over again..?
Mine is in the middle of the left hand side. Very slight. I don't think I'd have noticed it but for me reading up on it and knowing what to look for. Not worth the effort of exchanging I'd say. Hope I don't regret not doing so!

Mine was the same. Left middle, very slight. As I said in my previous post, I did the clamp trick overnight while I slept. It's still perfect after a week. No more separation, not even slight.
I want to try the clamp thing for a day. Here in Phoenix it gets to 105 these days, so inside a car it may get close to 120. It there any danger of that being too hot and causing any damage? - I know not to turn it on until it's cooled down
Let me get this right, clamp screen (with protection) in heat, let cool off, then remove clamps?

Are the new one's any better yet?

I've had two with a little screen separation. I'm debating on trying to return this second one to Walmart, but I'm not sure if they'll think I'm nuts. It is raised and is definitely squishy on the left side.
I've also debated on attempting the clamp fix. Not sure what I think about that, though.

2 weeks in, my n7 screen is still perfect now after the clamp trick. What will it hurt to try it out? If it works, awesome. If not, then you can take it back still

I posted the method I used like 5 posts up, but I'll recap just for you
Wrap the nexus up in a hand towel so your clamps do not mark up the device. Put clamps along the side of the device that has the separation (left side). Heat up the side you put the clamps on with a blow dryer for 5 minutes. Leave the clamps on overnight while you sleep. When you take the clamps off and unwrap it, tada screen fixed. I'm going on 2 weeks, screen is still perfect.
The clamps I used are made of a plastic type of material (nylon). I bought a 16 count pack from Walmart for 7.50. It has like 5 different sizes, I used medium-small sized.
There are people that have used clothes pins, but it requires more, 8 or so pins, to be able to apply the pressure needed. I'd think potato chip clips may work also if you have enough and they give a decent amount of pressure. I would recommend actual clamps though. I'll post a pic of the ones I used.

Well it seems to me that I am in the same boat right now guessing clamping down the screen with a towel could not hurt except if I am not careful enough and cracks the screen. I tried the screws and didn't work tried to get a replacement which had the screen separation issue worse than mine 2 times so now I am ready to try this. I think in a few minutes I will be going out to get me a blender (trying live a healthier life style) and will also stop by walmart and grab a bunch of clamps and see what I can do about it.
