I purchased my Nexus 7 32GB from Office Depot.

I am wondering if my device was really new or not. When I opened the box it was sealed but the plastic had some crinkles in it and when I took off the plastic it had a smudge mark on the device. I am thinking whoever packaged the device didn't wipe it clean before putting it into the box.

The other issue is that my device isn't showing up under my account on the Google Play website under account and settings.

Probably happened during packaging at the factory.
Sometimes the automatic equipment that applies the film malfunctions and human intervention is necessary. Someone probably had to manually take the device out of the process stream and apply the film resulting in a slight smudge and a little crinkling of the film.
I used to be a factory quality engineering manager and we saw such things happening frequently.

I got mine the day it was released from Sam's Club and it also had a smudge. Mine was brand new factory sealed.

No sweat, you got a new one.

Smudges, crinkles...I'd exchange it but I'm anal like that. I do not accept anything that remotely looks like it's been used. Packaging means a lot to me and with the # of impulse buys that take place the last thing I'd want to think is my "new" purchase was actually an "open box" I paid full price for.

I totally understand, but all the seals were in place and packaging was tight. There was on one smudge in the corner.

I got a replacement for my first 16 gb and when I opened it the black sticker said void open before I even opened it and there were finger prints all over the plastic. I took it back to a different Walmart and they didn't have any 16gbs. I complained to the store manager and got the 32gb for 225. Good enough for me
