I have about £100 in Xmas money and a £100 reserve to get myself a present.
I was thinking of getting the new Kindle. But as I don't read, I thought it might be better to get a tablet that will be more versatile.
Question is, will a Nexus 7 still be 'useful' if I'm getting a new phone in Easter ( Mabye Nexus 4) or will it just be a bigger phone, if you see what I mean....?

If your really into Mobile gaming and such i highly recommend the nexus 7 i got mine last week and bought asphalt 7 and modern combat 4 and just got my new moga bluetooth controller and im blown by the performance and the experience im getting with it. Im not sure whats the specs on a kindle fire hd im sure its pretty decent but i know its not a quad core . Anyways if you were looking for recommendation you got mine, you wont be disappointed oh also we have a huge live development community so root, roms, mods, tweaks are always being made for this tablet. thats a plus
I think it would be hard to compare a 7" tablet with a 4" phone. The screen real estate is 3 times bigger than that on the phone.
I bought the N7 because it is the best value for money (in the US). Although I was kind of baffled by the Curtis Klu which I bought as a Christmas present for a friend. It cost me $59 and does a really beautiful job.

I have a Galaxy S3 and a Nexus 7.
The S3 is a great phone and is great for texting, but a little too small for gaming or reading for my old eyes.
I use both constantly. I don't think any 7" tablet comes close to the quality and value of the Nexus 7.

I rock the Note 2 and the Nexus 7. I thought once I got the Note 2 I wouldn't need a tablet, but it's just a little too small. So I use the Nexus 7 at work and around the house and the Note fills in when I'm out somewhere.
I am not as pleased with this n7 as I was expecting to be if I'm honest.
After the stunning screen on the note 2, this n7 just seems a bit lifeless and dull. I had a play with the galaxy 7" tab in the store and much preferred the screen and feel of that and it was cheaper but it was the specs and reviews that swung me towards the n7 but I feel that I should have spent a bit more time playing with them before I made a decision.
There's no competition really the nexus 7 is awesome. I've always had android phones with big screens and none have given me the same experience as the nexus. They are fantastic.

Really to see the full potential of the nexus 7 I highly recommend playing games with high end graphics like modern combat 4 or asphalt 7 if your going to play free games like angry birds or such games your not going to see any true performance. Dare yourself to push the nexus 7 to the next level. I watched YouTube vids for the best games for android there are maybe two more games I'm gonna buy just to see how they perform on my tablet.

Being on a budget I was debating keeping my One V and buying a Nexus 7 or selling the One V and buying a hybrid phone/tablet. I went with the latter and got a Note II. Mainly because its everything in 1 device and it will always be where I go.

Agreed on the screen. I love my Nexus 7 but this screen compared to the screen on my Note 2 is rather underwhelming. Then again my not 2 cost me almost $500.00
I don't really know what's gonna happen when I can get a new phone, but if i cant get a Nexus, I would've gone for a Sammy of some sort. Seeing comments that say the N7 screen is dull is confusing me on what to get :-P unless it's comparatively....

There's nothing wrong with the screen per say, the Note 2 just has a better screen, so when you switch between the two you definitely notice a difference.

It's definitely just a matter of going from one to the other right away. I'm actually somewhat use to it now, so it doesn't bother me all that much anymore. When I go from my Note 2 to my girl's iPad 2 I notice the same thing. IMO the Note 2 just has a really great screen, so you're going to notice when you use something else.
I think my research has gone to the point where I should go for a N7, just becuase the other option ( SSD ) is too expensive, even though it's cheaper than a N7.
Question: 16Gb, or 32GB? Are the speeds the same? Cos I noticed a review that showed the 32Gb Nexus was faster than the 8GB...
Size, I'm not too bothered by, I can manage with 16, but if the 32 is a lot faster , I'll get hat. Otherwise I was thinking of getting a USB Flash drive and use it via OTG.
Edit:
it's sort of been answered, but getting a big Note 2 won't affect use of a tablet / won't make a tablet redundant, will it? May have to have a chat to see if I can upgrade, and what I can upgrade to
Edit Edit : scrap that, I just saw a comparison vid, and the Nexus is still al lot bigger than a NoteII.

that's definitely "opinion". I can clearly see jaggies on text, and the color saturation is LACKING. Other than that and the awful BT audio dropouts (and even dropouts using the built in speaker or headphones), I like the N7. It is NOT by any means without it's faults. My Note 2 doesn't drop out the audio in any mode.
You say you're not bothered by size now, but for the extra £40, I'd stump up and get the 32GB.
What sort of accessories do you think you'll need?
OTG cable
Case - I think
Screen protector?
Stylus - although they're probably rubbish
I don't know if I should get anything else....
Is there anything else round the £150-250 mark that's better than a N7 then?
I don't know if I would use the speaker as I pretty much always use my Bose on ears - laptop, PC, phone..... Everything but the TV ;-)
I have a Galaxy Note 2 and recently bought a Nexus 7 3G. Now that I have played with it a bit I'm wanting a 7" phone. A Note 7 would be awesome. I use a bluetooth earpiece most of the time anyway. My eyes are not what they used to be and I never seem to have my reading glasses handy so the bigger screen is great for me.

Thanks for the links, as it happens, I was just looking at some cases!
I don't really know if I need a case for it - said no Android user. Ever.
I was looking at the Dodo case and the treegloo, but they're not available here / too expensive. I think I just want somethign to portect it from scratches when I'm not using it, so I thought about just a Mofi case.
I think I'd use the case to prop it up at a desk, otherwise I'd probably be lying on a chair and holding it my hands. Yes, I lie down on my chairs :P
I don't know if I need a screen protector either - my DHD has been subjected to falling several times, and even the unpleasant sound of earings hitting it (Android equivalent of blackboard screeching) and yet there are no scratches on the screen.

The Spec Fit is gorgeous, especially the blue one.
I know what you mean re screen protectors, never had one on my WildFire S and the screen is immaculate. That being said, both tabs, the OneX and my old DHD had one. If you get a decent one you won't even know it's there and I'd much rather have one and not need it, than vice versa.
I think there's one last question. I've sorta asked it before, but am I better off spending another £100 and getting the newer N10, or should the Tegra 4 N7 still be more than good enough for me? :-P
I really wanted the transformer prime for my classroom (I am a 4 grade teacher) and the nexus 10....I got the N7 and the portability and form factor are what sealed the deal. Plus the screen is beautiful and I am an avid Shadowguneadzone player and the performance is absolutely stellar. N7 and you will be more than happy!

I can see jaggies too, but the screen is like, 200 dpi, which is far higher than any computer monitor I own. And I'm not sure on the saturation. Its definitely not as saturated as my Galaxy Nexus, but that's because the colors are TOO saturated, due to the SAMOLED display. Although I do agree its a little too under saturated. But alas, the colors are fairly close, so I'll live.
The audio dropouts seem to be a bug. Like if I turn off the screen while listening to music, it often starts stuttering like crazy. Makes me wonder if its going into sleep mode regardless of the fact that the music service is running.
Audio drop out when the screen is off shouldn't be too much of a problem since I would be watching videos on my N7 and listening to music on my PC/Phone.

Would be nice to fix the bug though.
It has to be a bug or kernel related or something, I highly doubt its a problem with it hardware wise. I have a hard time believing that a device that can muster PS2 level games at HD resolutions has trouble playing MP3's in the background of applications.
I'm using the "Bricked" kernel on my Nexus 7 and SmoothROM, and it still has those random background stutters, even though its performing fine. So maybe its something that Asus and Google can patch up.
