Probably - maybe the Nexus above the Incredible, as it gets quicker updates and I think Sense is over-rated and unnecessary on a Nexus running V2.2.

That list is pretty much what I expected. I think the EVO edges everything else out because of it's 4G capabilities and being able to shoot 720P stock. The N1's camera has been shown to be better then the DIncs and personally I think vanilla android is much better then sense. IMO I think that the N1 and DInc should be equal, but tie's are boring.

I still think the N1 is better than all of them. It feels like a higher quality phone, gets updates faster, has a desktop and car dock available. It still takes better pictures than the phones with higher megapixels, doesnt have sense...hdmi output would have been nice though, but most people wont use that. Front facing camera is a waste.

Default Personal Reasons

From a purely technological standpoint, I'd agree with the list, but specifications alone do not make an exceptional handset.

I looked at the top three in depth and the Nexus edged out the Incredible and the EVO (for me), which is why I bought one.

From an ergonomic point of view, I liked the fit and feel of the N1 better in my hand and in my pocket. The EVO just seemed a little clunky because of its bigger format and i was initially wow'ed by the Sense UI, but got a little bored with it in the store, so i know that after a few weeks I'd be kicking myself. Vanilla Android is much more suited to my use and customization needs.

720p video is a non-issue for me as I rarely take videos with my phone and the 5mpx camera is plenty for the kind of shots I'd need.

I'm on AT&T so the 4G isn't an option right now, and being an unlocked GSM handset is important as I travel quite frequently.

I think that the list is really just an attempt to put something out there because someone said "do it".. and that realistically you can not in anyway judge Android based phone so generally.

First.. Is 2.2 even out for everyone yet? or does it require root?

And lets be honest here.. If someone is looking at paying 580$ for the nexus one so they can use it on at&t.. it is very different from a subsidized 200$ on Sprint for an evo.

Next who are we talking to? Are we talking to a tech enthusiast who wants to improve quality of life with a more powerful phone? IS the main application going to be checking email/information usage for a student at school?

Or are we talking to a blogger who travels and needs a portable modem for multiple devices?

Or what about someone who is none of the above and doesn't know anything at all about smart phones and just wants to browse facebook?

Sure the evo has wimax (NOT 4g, to my knowledge 4g has not been offically declared yet!) and the capacity to act as a modem, not to mention some serious power under the hood.. But, it is still on sprint and no telling how long until it sees 2.2. Plus sprint's coverage doesn't suit everyones needs.

Droid incredible May have better coverage but, again how worried are you about 2.2?

And while 2.2 may be the nexus ones biggest advantage.. I do think its important to remember that some people WILL be driven crazy if they don't get updates.. and The nexus one is as far as I am aware assured to get them first. While there is also the fact that it is unlocked so you can get different carriers with it..

I think it is really fair to say there is no clear "king" in the android market..

I am speaking as someone who wants a nexus one..

Paying full retail does make the nexus one the better option for me.. It means I get updates fast.. I have no carrier restrictions built into software, or even worse bloatware (that is sooo important on at&t..)

I have a pretty big network which has yet to give me any problems personally.. and to be honest.. with my entire family on the plan.. it really is just about as cheap for what we have as any other carrier would be.. Anytime 5 people are on one plan.. it tends to drive up the bill no matter what..

I would crown the Evo king as of right now. However, I would have to disagree on the Incredible ahead of the Nexus One.

based on pure specs, i agree. but other factos such as build quality and materials makes the nexus the top for me. its super solid build and feel is just superb and when considering the entire package, i would take that over the higher spec phones. nexus is going in my permanent collection rather than being sold when i'm done with it, cause its just one of those "keeper" phones.

but once new CPU comes along, like the droid x hummingbird 1ghz cpu OMAP, that will start to really make me think about upgrading. all these snapdragon clones, incredible, evo, dont do anything for me since i already own a nexus. but OMAP makes a whole new ballgame.

and sense UI i really dont like.

i think that when it comes to hardware its tied in second manly cause the incredible feels plasticy to me... but in terms of it and its software i think its tied for first cause its stock rom is amazing and i think it ties it overall with the evo

Screen size and sexiness gives the Evo a slight edge. But I love me Nexus One. I will jump on board if the Evo becomes compatible with T-Mobile or when the HD2 gets an Android version...otherwise I'm staying with my Nexus One for a long time!

I'd put the Nexus One at the top of the list.

But I am jealous of the EVO screen and camera.
Not so much the 4g when 3g can be potentially faster.

I love my N1 and I would put it first but I understand why it's third.... Evo is new and unique and Incredible could be bought subsidized.

N1......Why? Nothing else comes close. I dont care about the Evo's this and the Incredible's that. Hands down the N1 is the best android device out.
