Default Clearing caches

I clear my cache on a daily basis with CacheCleaner, no issues there.
But dalvik cache?, i clear before flashing a new rom but now i have found a rom that i reckon i'll be staying with for a while, does anyone clear dalvik cache on a regular basis, i.e, weekly?
Any advantages other than gaining some internal space (for a couple of days) and making the phone really snappy (again, for a couple of days)?

I didn't think clearing dalvik cache necessarily made the phone snappier.. caches are there for a reason and AFAIK clearing the cache can make the phone slower in some areas and faster in others. I really don't clear caches often but once a month or two
