at 5hrs 30min and still at 72% and this is with WiFi and GPS both ON, streamed a bit of Pandora - about 30min maybe... watched a bit of video... sent a few txts and browsed a little bit... not much.... currently have auto-brightness on, but i'm still undecided if i'll keep it that way or run at a static 10-15% brightness... we'll see...
not my heaviest usage day but overall quite pleased... my first Nexus would be around 40% by now if now lower.... more proof that there was something definitely wrong with it...
PS - a good battery widget is 'BatteryLife' (all one word, there's another called 'Battery Life')... this one is by CurveFish.... can modify the colours and gives you battery health as well.... quite handy
.
Have you tried Battery Indicator? At first I was using the BatteryLife but it takes up two icon spaces. The battery indicator just stays up on the notification bar.
i don't want something in the notification bar... too distracting and then i'd be paranoid when the battery would go down every 1%... i'd rather have a 2 space widget on an alternate screen....

I am not sure if this is good information, but when I was in a T-mobile to change my services for my N1. While I was there the employee advised me to turn off the haptic feedback or it would kill my battery. Thought it worth mentioning.
I guess there are some pretty wildly different battery results from people. I've had my phone on with its original charge for 3 1/2 days. I don't yet have a sim card but I left the antenna on to see how it affects the battery. I've been using the phone a lot on my home WIFI though. In total, my screen has taken 8% of the battery life and 90% has been eaten up by cell-standby. That is in stark contrast to what most people have been reporting (50-60% of battery life going into powering the screen). I'm probably using the screen a tad bit less than others but I have been using it a lot. Hopefully this indicates that my battery will last a hell of a long time once I actually have the sim (which I'm getting on Monday! ).
that's a pretty good battery life you have there! I was using mine without a SIM for the first few days but didnt experience anything as good as that, and I had the antennae off. But I think I only put it down whilst I slept so that's not surprising.
Now that I have a couple of days of use with the N1 with fairly heavy use, gps, maps, browsing, email, WiFi, 3G, music, gaming, several downloads, running a number of programs, couple of photos taken, etc. Display auto, Haptic feedback on, really nothing turned off. Today I have had it off charger for 13+ hours with 29% battery left. My take is the battery life is fine. I do tend to turn apps off when not in use except gmail, voice search, browser, and of course, Advanced Task Killer. Compared to what I saw my friends experience on the G1 I am happy.
i've noticed that with the update, the OS seems a little more aggressive at killing apps sooner when in background and not used.... makes task killer a bit less essential.... i only use ATK to keep tabs on things... but when i go in there, i'm surprised at how little is really running... on my first Nexus (before the update was released) - i'd go into ATK and there's be TONS of apps running.... now there is very little so I think that the update has helped in that respect...
I had uninstalled ATK because I was convinced that it wasn't necessary. Well since I've been downloading apps lately I reinstalled it and noticed a LOT of apps that I never use like to run in the background. Off Topic: Does anyone know if ATK paid is better than free version?
I thought that I had a GREAT battery... it's been lasting me from 8AM to 10PM without dying... and sometimes I charge it mid-day for kicks.
Come yesterday, I talked on the phone for 1 HOUR and it drained my battery. Normally at the end of the day the display is what drained 75% or higher of the battery. At the end of yesterday it was almost 50/50 between Voice Calls and the Display (with like 2% being cell standby and 3% running apps and such).
Does this mean that 1 HOUR of talk-time is half the battery? I am worried now that 2 HOURS of talking is going to kill it . <--- emphasis on sad face
i'm quite satisfied with battery life on my 2nd Nexus unit... but I still have a Seidio 1600mAh coming as it doesn't hurt to have more, and i'll also have a spare...
PS - I talked for 1hr (all from one call) on mine the other day, and it definitely didn't suck 50% out of the battery, that's for sure.... so maybe you have a stuck app or something... ???
Not sure, but I am not sure how to read the percentages of battery usage it gives either.. I didn't see my battery go down considerably after the call, its just that at the end of the day it was rated at close to 50% in battery usage.
I noticed I have Google Voice running sometimes too.. is this because I have it set to use my GV number if I call internationally?
ALSO: Does anyone know if using the Seidio 1600mAh will void warranty since it is non-HTC/Google??
@mi_canuck, let me know how the battery turns out... I am considering buying one but I'm worried about see question above.
I wonder if the phone isn't ending calls when it should and it keeps running a cycle on it. That would explain why after a 20 minute phone call my power isn't at 60%, but when I check back 2 hours later it is and the power culprit is my voice calls. It does always have an accurate reading of the time however...
maybe get the market app called "Spare Parts" - with that, you see a lot more process and items that use the battery - it may help identify the culprit...
Scratch that, read some comments about instability afterwards and difficulty uninstalling. Anyone else have this issue with "spare parts"? Cancelled the download, I'm worried that it might screw up my phone.

Spare Parts worked fine when I tried it.
I recently set an all black jpg as wallpaper which reduced the screens battery usage from an average of 56% to around 37%.
I disabled wallpaper scroll via Home++, which made navigating between screens much smoother. I also keep the display brightness off when inside or in low light places.
So far battery is at 68% 18 hours after unplugging but with quite low usage (~10 sms, couple of phone calls, browsing the market and updating a few apps).

well if you battery life REALLY sucks, your phone is already screwed up
12h since unplugged, 69% drained by Voice Calls. 1hr talk time, 48% battery life remaining .
I haven't ran it down till its died but I'm almost positive that another hour of talk-time would have near killed my battery!
Oh well, I'm sending it in for the dust under the screen, and I called just now about the battery issue and the rep said that they check every aspect of the phone during a repair so that any issue I experience should be resolved.
i'm finding batter life "decent" on my 2nd Nexus... especially with the 1600 Seidio battery (which isn't a huge amount better - I say to anyone, save your $55).... but definitely voice calls suck a massive amount of juice... no way - NO WAY - is the talk time on this thing 7hrs (6 on 3G)...
i had 30 minutes of calls the other day, and that accounted for 44% of my "battery use".... so basically... a little over an hour talk time and my battery would have been dead??? probably not quite linear - i don't know if i trust the battery usage thing that much... but say 2hrs of talk time... i bet a Nexus is down to its knees...
if i get rid of my Nexus, it will be due to battery... but so far, everything else working fine... and i can easily make a full day on a charge - usually about 12hrs, and still have 30% left... but doesn't leave much buffer...

I'm not entirely sure what's going on here. My N1 can start as early as 7 am till 3 am the next day and be somewhere around 25% give or take. I keep background services on with wifi and still get great battery life. If users here have such awful battery life, then I would be on the phone with Google immediately. I've had wonderful battery life with the N1.
@Drhyde, how much talk-time are you putting on that thing?
My battery life is great, as long as I'm not using it as a phone (voice calls).
My Nexus is on its way to HTC, I called them back and told them that I sent it in for the dust issue but that I had some more problems I was worried about, they said that no matter the reason I'm sending it in, that they will inspect every aspect of the phone including any power issues.
I hope they are being honest and not giving me the run-around. On any note, I've still got my fingers crossed, CROSSED, crossed.

check this out !!
..just installed and testing...cyanogen will put this in his next release
When on holiday I was down to just 70% after 48 hours. Only been used for a few texts and photos though. I guess it's the data usage that really hits the phone hard.

freddy got fingered? lol...i think im going to send mine in for dust too.
whats the turn around time?
i got mine back in about a week. took about a week for dust to get back in there. im gonna send it in again eventually. i think they know how to fix it but are just being lazy.... i hope.
there's an awesome Brightness Widget (by CurveFish I believe) in the market... much much better than the one on the power strip widget...
allows brightness selection from 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100.... and you know exactly which one you're one once selected... and also quick access to slider bar for fine tuning values...
I have been using Battery Alarm for 50p. Its easy to bring up and check the levels, but now I dont tend to bother as I know it will beep and notify me at 30% (something that I think should be part of Android, but hey).
Got my phone on Sat and have been playing with it ever since. First day battery life was abysmal, maybe 10 hours or so and it conked out. Probably all my setting it up and whatnot.
Second day was a bit better, still getting used to trying different settings and stuff.
Today has been the best so far, took it off at 9ish and now have 20% left. Did quite a bit of web surfing and a few long phone calls.
All that being said, Im not entirely happy with the battery life when considering my blackberry bold would be at maybe 70% left at the end of my days with the same amount of texting, surfing and calls. However, with my blackberry, I had my bluetooth on ALL the time regardless. I have yet to turn the N1 on yet and sync it to my car. Cant imagine how much a drain that will be.

Dude I so envy you! I'm curious about your battery use when on your network tho.
But still, I have mine fixed on 2G and screen brightness down, nearly everything off except wifi when available and I don't last a day. Altho I havn't tested extensively.. And I do fiddle with it alot, first android phone and niftiest toy I've had in ages
I'll do the recalibration drain-recharge cycle and try to last as long as I can with minimal use but I doubt I'll even come close to 3 days..
you know, the dude getting 3.5 days with his Nexus, but without a SIM, brings to light my suspicion... i think aside from the screen, what drains the battery so much on our Nexuses is the poor radio... as it hunts for signal (whether you know it or not), drains battery immensly...
i'm seriously starting to believe, from my own personal experiences, that the Nexus One's radio and RF performance are quite poor.... and i'm losing hope that any firmware or ROM update will fix it... That EVO 4G is looking better and better (although that might have its own battery life woes to consider, with all that's loaded on it, and the massive screen, yet only a 1500 mAh battery... will have to wait and see)... but i'm thinking at least WiMax would be better for signal than the 3G on my Nexus...
(ps, I'm using a 1600 mAh Seidio battery) - yes, it's better, but not by that much... but i'll take any advantage I can get for now... an extra hour before dying is still worthwhile...
mine lasts me all day, 3g on, wifi on, texting, gtalk, browsing, tweeting, phone, browsing, and i still have 20% at the end of the day. which for me is around 3am.
So yesterday was my best day yet since getting the phone on Saturday. I got an app that graphs my battery usage throughout the day and it seems to be charging faster and discharging slower.
I took my phone off the charger at 10am and when I put it on the charger last night at midnight I still had 40% left. I can deal with that.
i found that not using live wallpapers saves a lot of juice and allowing it to use "data roaming" it wasnt hunting for signal as much.

hmm the data roaming is interesting. but i am more interested in what app your using to monitor the battery

@ DigitalRonin: found the YouTube video on battery life very interesting and insightful to listen to and it allows me to better understand android, so thanks for sharing it
Anyone that's rooted with the Desire ROM - have you tried to disable the "always-on data" in the settings? wondering if that saves much battery... might affect the pushed data, but if it's a significant battery life improvement, could be worth it for some occasions (say on a trip, where you might not be close to a charger at all times, and wouldn't need the push notices nearly as much...)
you know, since installing the Desire ROM and checking things in the Battery Usage panel... it's a bit different than the stock Nexus battery usage panel in looks, but basically the same in operation... what's most odd is the display is by far no the most power intensive item on the list... even with heavy use... i can't see how it should be THAT different... but... it is...
this is just a normal day's usage... 7h 20m into it... about 33% left... did a lot of web browsing over lunch and included a 30min phone call... about 9%/hr... which is about right... with the stock Nexus ROM, the battery usage would ALWAYS report the display at the top of the list... making up like 40% of the total usage... now it's consistently at the bottom... i dunno what's up... but it does seem like the Desire ROM has different brightness settings... 100% with this ROM isn't nearly as blindingly bright as the stock ROM... just an observation... I could just be seeing things... all I know, this is now my usually battery usage percentages...
watch this video, its regarding the Nexus One Dock, but at around 3:30, it starts talking about the new battery (1600mAh - almost 200mAh more than the original one) which is good ... you also may wanna watch the entire video, its a helpful one.

I just recently got my N1, and the battery life seems pretty decent so far. I'm getting 18-20 hours and have about 20% left before I charge it. I'm only on 2G/wifi all day and monitor is on full brightness with 4 hrs of using the phone and the rest standby. I'm very please with the battery life so far...though I haven't really talked on the phone for more than a couple of minutes, so will try to see how long i can talk before the phone dies. But I did buy an extra battery just in case from all of the posts I've read saying how bad the battery was for them XD And I'm having a blast getting to know my precious N1, lol.
Edit 4/13/10
I retract what I said earlier...battery life is horrible for calling...I talked on the phone today for 95 minutes and that used up 38% of the battery on 3G (forgot to turn it off it seems)...so if I just use my phone to talk, I can only talk for 250 minutes or roughly 4.2hours...that is only 60% of the 7 hours that Google said we would expect from our phone. There goes my 7hr calling test i planned with a friend of mine to see if it'll last that long *sigh* well...it's a good thing that I bought an extra battery pack

Long before the Nexus One launched, the media was filled with speculation, buzz, rumors, and excitement regarding the possibility of a "Google Phone". The rumors were put to rest when Google announced the Nexus One, the first ever Google ... Read More
