Shows the shipper's invoice value at £331.23 with VAT totalling £57.96 plus £1.25 admin fee, so total is £59.21.
Very pleased with this as my bank account shows the amount I paid for the phone as £353.83. Saved myself a whopping £2.71. Gotta love exchange rates
£353.83 is the the amount your bank charged you for the exchange. It will include their commission, even though they may say it's free of it... They just give you a not quite exact conversion rate to claw some cash in. You get charged VAT on the actual value, not the bank's value.
I got charged mine as the exact exchange rate on the day + £10 commission.
Still not got my bill yet. At least it's better than the £10 that Royal Fail charge to present items to customs.

I had forgotten about the charge Barclays slapped on me. Dang. Oh well. I'm pretty pleased with the price anyway, I never expected to get out of paying VAT, Google and DHL are professional companies who wouldn't mess something like that up.
I'm not just talking about the Nexus One here, I frequent a car owners club forum where parts are very often sort from Japan/US from companies who do things legally and getting away without paying VAT.
It does happen, maybe not often, but it does.
I've never seen that happen when the customs code was correct unless it was manually mis-entered. I guess if parts are sent without pre-clearing it could happen. Its just human error rather than them 'missing' the package. The chance of it happening on the N1 is close to zero 0.
It's a delight when it comes isn't it? Especially when you know what it is even before opening the package.
Yeah, such a joy. My company was going to pay it, they had it open and it was with finance but I said that I better pay it just in case!!
They kept insisting but I felt guilty and think they may call a favour in at some point saying, "Oh well remeber we paid your VAT bill for you". Not on your nelly .
It came to £59.21....Showed up as £331.something for the cost which was good. I know I paid more than that so I've saved a few pound I think.
My says a custom entry date of 14/01/10 then an invoice date of 26/01/10. I got the bill on Tuesday 09/02/10. So you can work it out roughly from that.

'course, you could always buy 5+ @ $285 (2-8-5 US Dollars) each, sell 4 (say profit $100USD each - so one free N1 @ $115 extra) and possibly not get DHL's VAT bill...
i got the phone 2 days after launch and still haven't had the vat invoice. just hope it hasn't got lost in the post or the first i will hear of it will be from some sort of debt enforcement...

£60:16 for dog, charger & admin fee...
(Paid for out of my winnings on "Monet's Garden" which I just saw [in the flesh..] win the 3:15 Grade One Betfair Ascot Chase at Ascot Racecourse - lovely horse!)
Cheers!

PS There is a Betfair APP !!

Still haven't received anything at all regarding a VAT bill, and its been over a month!
I'd give them a ring. They probably whack on a whopping charge for late payments.
As for those having trouble with the website, I recommend switching browsers. I'm on my Mac and use Safari as default and just got bombarded with error alerts, but worked fine with Firefox.
I know there is another thread on this and in it i said that if the box isnt opened you wont get a bill. Well that is wrong.
I know now different from lots of sites ive read.
I have had my Nexus One 3 weeks and only just got my bill!
The worst thing is i bought my phone from ebay because the guy said he would send it as a gift. He sent it direct from Google the T**T.
So not only did i pay over the odds i now get a vat bill, plus i oredered a dock the other day thinking i wont have to pay tax on that!!!
Sorry for refreshing but i'm not quite sure about something.
When I buy N1 i pay VAT (OK - it's fine - I knew about it before) and it's about 60pounds.
And now i don't understand - if I buy dock i pay higher vat right (higher by few pounds)?
But if I buy this dock later (just dock) i have to pay 60 pounds again?! Or it's just some % of dock price.
btw. I have to pay for UK charger (I mean... There is NO charger in standard?).
Before mine was delivered I was rang by dhl saying i needed to pay import duty before they would delivery could be made. Has anyone else had this happen as although it differes from what most people seem to have experienced on here it is similar to the only other thing I have bought from the US where royal mail refused to deliver before getting payment.

They send a US charger which works fine with a shaver plug.
As for the dock, you'll get VAT and probably a few % for duty.

DHL don't withhold delivery, they bill you for it later.
The Following User Says Thank You to Rusty For This Useful Post:
just remember if you buy the dock separately from Google you'll have to pay the $30 shipping fee again. On a $45 dock that's a large amount!
The dock is being sold in the UK but I think it was £45 so not cheap either…
I had to phone DHL back as they sent a credit note for the extra duty they'd incorrectly charged me but not another bill..
Apparently common practice, so I have to just pay the difference.. Must pay it on Monday!
Long before the Nexus One launched, the media was filled with speculation, buzz, rumors, and excitement regarding the possibility of a "Google Phone". The rumors were put to rest when Google announced the Nexus One, the first ever Google ... Read More
