Smile Nexus One 2.3.6 OTA Feedback

I just thought I would mention that I received a 2.3.6 OTA update for my Nexus One this morning.

I am happy we haven't been forgotten

Default 2.3.6?

I never received the OTA for 2.3.5, but perhaps that explains it...

Fell in love again with Nexus One this morning....downloaded and installed manual update and I can now rib my Samsung S2 friends whilst they wait. I have not seen one nexus one 'in the wild' in 18 months of owning it and I love how understated it is. Looking towards the Prime now though and installing manual updates has given me more confidence to strip it off its bloatware from vodacrap or whoever and return to stock!

Got mine yesterday morning, haven't noticed any differences yet. Never got 2.3.5, stock on TMobile in Houston.

I got the update this morning as well. I looked it up a bit and apparently it's mostly a voice search bug fix.

One thing I've noticed since getting 2.3.6: first connection to a Bluetooth device, even one with which I had already paired, prompted me to allow or deny the connection. Anybody else notice this?

Nope. My Bluetooth paired just fine after the update.

I did have the phone lock up on me when going into Wifi settings after the update, but a battery-pull and reboot later, it's working fine.

Yes, received update this morning and when it tried to pair with my car, it requested permission. It will get annoying really fast if that's how it will be.

It only seems to do it for the first connection to a device after updating. Hasn't happened for subsequent connections. More of a curiosity than anything else.

Got mine last night, it seems to have removed some apps. My file managers are both gone, so is Robot Unicorn Attack. I'm not sure what else.

Default got it sunday

Updated smoothly, and no obvious differences. This is SF bay area.

Does anyone know where there's a list of what's changed from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6?

Google hasn't posted the Changelog yet for developers. That's where I usually get the nuts and bolts of version updates. the latest is Android 2.3.4 Platform | Android Developers for Gingerbread.

SMS Unread count app crashed after the update, so I uninstalled the app.

Otherwise, everything seems okay. No other issues.

Just noticed another change! I opened my Gmail on my phone for the first time after the update, and it's allowing to me "Always Show Pictures" for certain senders, which is very nice for me. It also lets you do something about those priority labels, but I don't use them.

no, the last update, 2.3.4 had the always show pics for gmail. i have stock tmobile n1.

it sucks if it takes up more memory b/c i'm running out of it.

i read on phandroid that the 2.3.6 update fixes something to do with voice, but takes away zoom abilities on the picture gallery

Weird. I have stock T-Mobile Nexus One, and I was on 2.3.4 previously, and never had that option.

Also, I got the update last night, and I've noticed my battery is a bit better today. I'll continue to monitor.

Huh? I just went into my picture gallery and I was able to zoom in using the magnifying glass buttons in the bottom right.

What do you mean?

I have a somewhat related question - I am prompted for a security code each time I connect with the Bluetooth in my car. Anyone know how to get the thing to "save" a code? I don't get this with any of my other Bluetooth devices. Annoying!

Being on CM7, I won't get the update, but at this point I am so happy with my N1 that, given its age, I'm in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mode. I even used Titanium Backup to replace the new Market (which I didn't like) with the old one and froze the updater.

Confirmed, thanks! Didn't do it second time around, although I did check the box for Discoverable..

One thing I've noticed for sure is that the phone is faster and my TasKiller shows 150-200+, where as before it would bog down below 100. Same number of apps running and everything.

Your phone would be even faster if you deleted the task killer, there is no reason to use one.

Yeah I can't "Pinch Zoom" in picture gallery again since upgrade to 2.3.6. Very Dissapointing. Is there any way to activate this feature again?

I find it a little odd that the pinch to zoom feature would be deliberately disabled. My guess is it was an "oops". I prefer QuickPic for browsing photos.

I noticed yesterday that after the update my hotspot SSID was reset to a generic one. It kept my password, but I had to change the name back so that my Flyer could find it.

Just checked, and pinch and zoom does not work in the gallery anymore. So keep your eyes open for 2.3.7 !

Yeah, I got my update two or three nights ago about the time I got home from the bar ;-)... the only problem I had was that it reset my personal wifi login. I reset it and smooth sailing...

Nexus One since February 2010 and not looking back...

Is it just me that thinks GPS appears to take way longer to find /hold onto/less reliable a location since 2.3.6??

Ok, I got my 2.3.6 sometime last week...at McD's since I surf on WiFi (NO data plan)...now here's the odd thing, sometime after that the phone started alerting me to ending ebay auctions....
anywhere, on the road. This threw me because it wont do that until I hook to a WiFi....Just plain odd. So on the way to work saturday (at 4 freaking am), I get another ebay notice. WTF. So I pull up the google map app, and Pow, it shows me on I-290. What??? I pull up facebook, and instead of a cached page I get that mornings FB. and on to gmail, I am reading that mornings email.
Now what the hell? I didnt call and upgrade to a data plan, it just turned on.
Anyone ever hear of something like this??
Tony

Confirmed, pinch zoom no longer works, but double-tap (or zoom button tap) still zooms as normal. Minor nuisance. Hope it's fixed.

Well, I'm getting a Prime soon anyway so I guess I don't care that much.

I've recently started using QuickPic and I quite like it. The "standard" Gallery has a nicer interface for the folders (3D and all), but QuickPic is much faster and the pinch-to-zoom still works.

One more thing I've noticed about the *new* Gmail app: you get a notification when something changes in your inbox, not just when you receive a new email.

Example: I'm on my computer and I accessed gmail. I read an email that was new and then deleted it. I then get a "new email" notification on my phone. I open Gmail and there is no new email; it's just that something has changed in the inbox.

I don't like this at all. Furthermore, the wording in the Gmail settings is "Notify in Status bar when email arrives" - it says nothing about "something changed in the inbox".

Just noticed very minor change, better IMHO.

With CLOCK if you had alarms & wanted to change them it took you through the lock/unlock screen to do so then again when finishing with alarm changes. No longer! Now easier & quicker...

Thank you the great God at Google...

I went back to 2.3.4, since 2.3.6 more or less broke my wifi. Maybe Ice Cream Sandwich will fix this, but I'm not holding my breath - Google still has not been able to fix the clock synchronization bug they introduced with Gingerbread, so I no longer put much trust into their technical competence.

I have no problems with Wifi. Maybe check what channel or what band your wifi is on. I've noticed some issues on 5Ghz.
