Default Sharp Static Noise When Calling Out ???

More often than not, I will hear a sharp static sound when calling out. It is very annoying. The static I hear is loud and very brief. I didn't find anyone else on this Nexus One forum talking about it, but when I did a Google search, I found another forum, Static noise when calling someone - Nexus One Forum - Google Phone Forum, so the problem isn't isolated. Their symptons sound exactly like mine.

One of the users on that forum suggested the noise cancelling mic on the back of the phone might be causing the problem if it covered or partially covered up by a cell phone case. Well, that's not my situation. I have no case and just use the supplied neoprene sleeve. Also, it doesn't seem to matter who I call when I get the noise.

Can anyone else confirm they've had this problem? If so, have you figured out what causes it? Any help or personal experiences would be great!

update: What I thought was random, may not be. Now, it seems when I call certain numbers, the static happens every time. I'll have to keep experimenting

Even though no one esle has replied, I'm certain many others out there are having the problem. I just found out tonight that this is happening to my wife's N1 too.

i was on the line with HTC tonight. the operator informed me he could barely hear me because of the static. i believe it was due to the phone resetting its network preferences after the update. it had decided to only hop on 2g networks and i didn't realize that it was reset during the update. we'll see if it gets better now.

The sound you are hearing is the cell network connecting the call. I have this issue and have had it in the past with different phones on other networks. My last phone was a finesse with metro pcs. The sound sometimes was so loud that u would have This keep it away from my ear when making calls. I don't think its the phone, I think its the network.

You might be right. After a few more days, I'm realizing this is almost always happening when I call my Dad's Sprint cell phone. The sound reminds me of talking on a walkie talkie. Right after he says something, I hear the sharp short burst of static almost like he's releasing a talk button. I wonder if this has something to do with the fact he has push to talk capability. Maybe somehow my phone thinks that's what I'm wanting to do???

My wife also has a N1 and she hears the same thing when calling his number.

I'm with T-Mobile. I hear the static with the speakerphone on or off. I also hear it when I'm wearing my BT headset, so I know it's not an issue of a bad speaker.
